You are definitely right on that... oh but my gf is gonna be pissed that I redo my entire rig XD

i'd wait til zen 3 release to decide, since the 8600k is just a minor bottleneck, you know what you are getting from intel and 8->10cores doesn't really matter, but a 200mhz increase on zen 3 completely wipes out whatever advantages intel has left, though it'd be the more expensive route than simply upgrading your cpu.

I don’t anticipate PCIe 4.0 being a bottleneck for PC gaming any time soon. There’s probably some usefulness for the extra bandwidth on workstations like deep learning rigs that use the hell out of their PCIe lanes, but regular old RTX 3000 series GPUs won’t show any improvement on PCIe 4.0. It would take a completely unrealistic jump in performance from the GPUs, and it would take games (at a very high frame rate) that can take advantage of all that bandwidth.

I found it strange as well, but NVIDIA is doing an event on the 14th of May and many speculate, the 30 series will then be announced. Furthermore, China is long back up and running again. I don't know about their factories in particular but China is full on producing again. So... Maybe...

well the reason behind it is that the 9700k suffers from the same issue as the 9600k, but at a lesser extent.

its possible you can recoup a lot of the cost from selling the Mobo and CPU.

The only example of this is the RX 5500XT, which has Vram issues and x8 bandwidth. We have yet to see any PCIe related performance issues with cards going from PCIe 4 to PCIe 3.

Yeah, I was thinking about i7 too. I just had a family member buy me a Corsair (4x8) 32Gb 3200Mhz memory kit for my Birthday  so I'm super happy about that

This is a pretty fast rig already, either you are doing a fairly big overhaul (changing to Ryzen) or just buy a used i7 and that will be totally fine for a few more years.

Hey man, to be honest I personally don't see much room for improvement in this generation.
Perhaps some static pressure optimized fans for your aio cpu cooler and higher clock, lower CL RAM.
But it's nothing but the slightiest marginal upgrade.

your motherboard wont suppot that m.2 ssd's speed.
    this will:

actually this cpu runs cooler than the ryzen 9 3900x.

    your system is good otherwise.

i know that this is very overkill, but this cpu will last you years.

you coudl go with rtx 2080 super or that cpu upgrade.
