I always recommend getting aftermarket coolers as they are always going to perform better than stock coolers. I always try to treat my parts as good as I can and because of that I choose to get better components to lessen the stress on the components. Because of this I choose the go aftermarket. 

Which brand would you say is the best bang for your buck so to speak

Depends on if you want to go liquid or air cooled

Air cooled

Noctua then. They have been making really good coolers lately and if you want a top end cooler than these are the ones to go for. They can be a little pricey but I think it is worth it especially if you plan to ever upgrade your cpu in the future.
