  1. Soo ... has Dan and the Engineering people at LMG see this thread and watch JamesdB's videos on this? Might be worth a bit of an update on WAN?
  2. I just watched the LMG top peeps video ... and that was the right call. Yvonne, stopping for a week is a great start, I hope you guys have asked the right questions, to create the right problem solving, to come up with a workable game plan going forward. Terren, Not taken any personal responsibility, but elsewhere on this (rather large) thread, I pointedly called you out to take the lead and listen to the community and that it was time reign Linus in. You have, and you know how to get the right people working on what, to get the train back on the track ... even if its a little slower. Gary, a lot is on your shoulders ... but a lot was asked of you to walk into a production schedule like that, so you have to be given some slack. Either way, test results have to be accurate first, on time second. I dont use LTT to learn about tech before pulling the trigger on buying a thing ... I go elsewhere. Your job is to change that. James and Ed and even Luke ... no worries guys; you're the ones that will benefit the most by getting to do a little bit less volume wise and doing what you do do ... better. Happier days, happier work, happier lives. The hard part is for very long term people, to distance themselves from how they used to think and do stuff. You can create a new way all you like, but it takes time to shed habit. Its not an overnight thing to not be human. Give yourself time, it will come. Do something nice for your own team ... this wasnt their fault, but they may be suffering a little. You may have a tiny tich of minor PTSD like thinking going on there. A lot of people there probably just breathed out all at once. Nick Light ... ALRIGHT ... I'LL BUY THE DAMN SCREWDRIVER. lol On the harder side, maybe you were the guy who should have sat on Linus earlier and made him slow down. You for a long time were the only position that could have made an impact, but we know you were too busy cleaning up after him and doing your own massive task list to take on the job of Linus-sitting. Just know that being too busy really is no excuse for seeing it happen, and doing nothing. Colton ... you're not fired ... but I realized that in another job in another breakneck industry ... you would have been, just for that email alone. The problem is you're actually good at what you do, but some of this is on you to find fixes. Linus ... bud ... I know you said you will be on hand to create the new, but you also need to just back off and listen to the people that are talking. The people at the bottom of the rung need to be heard, and they dont need you ... to be you. Thats all I got. The shopping list would be long but at the end of the day, thats all that matters ... the little guy knows how to do his job the right way, you just need to listen, not talk or decide. At least now maybe you realize that Brandon was right all along. Have a good week. Everyone; dont forget to eat and sleep, and give your loved one a hug.
  3. So ... just last week, I pulled the switch and threw $77 Canadian at joining Floatplane for the year, pretty much only for LTT membership, so I could enjoy a better Wan Show chat experience. ... well ... that wasnt such good timing ... at this moment I donno if I really wanna even watch Wan Show at all.
  4. Here's the thing, I kinda realized that in this space, you just have to focus your ingestion of content based on what you want to experience, or need to know, and direct that need to the channel that you are completely comfortable with getting exactly that information or entertainment. - If its about RAM timing overclocking, or PCB breakdowns, its Actually Hardware Overclocking and Buildzoid. - If its interesting part oddities and seriously hard core LN2 overclocking, De8auer or sometimes Bearded. - If its quality monitor reviews I can trust, There's literally no one better than Tim At Hardware Unboxed. He has the only Youtube testing process I trust, its the same every time. - If its case reviews, GPU and CPU detailed reviews ... before pulling the pin on a $ purchase, Its GN Steve all the way. Perhaps one day we can add PSU, Fans and other stuff to the list. If Im going to spend money, I go here, I can trust the methodology and trust the numbers. ... if I want to see timely light hearted news about tech or gaming, or watch unboxing of tech I'm unlikely to buy ... or more importantly just looking for some train accident entertainment like just how many USB's can I plug into a system ... I watch LMG's channels. They are good at asking odd questions like this, and delivering. Its this type of content that drove LMG to the top of the heap viewer and $ wise. All that said; I have learned too many times in too many ways, ... in not the long term history but as recently as last week: (Linus actually recommended for grandpa to buy an Alienware prebuild with a proprietary motherboard/case combo, ie; growing the E-waste pile, so you cant just throw out the case or the motherboard, but get to throw out both when anything fails), This was really a bad call; ... LTT isn't about exacting quality of review, or about product purchase recommendations ... its about the fun and the potential for some good ol' trainwreck. This has its place in the tech world ... just as Americas Got Talent has a place in the world of music; Occasionally something good happens, but more often than not its just stuff. Seriously tho, I just dont go here for actual $ purchasing recommendations, and I dont see this changing with Labs ... but why? What is unfortunate, is that Linus in his response here, missed or chose to not comment on the guts of what Steve had to say; LTT pushes high quantity content out so fast, that no one can guarantee quality or accuracy, its actually impossible to do both, more staff people will not fix it, neither will processes that could catch mistakes. The whole model is one of self implosion. Linus, maybe you do actually need to watch that staff roast video, and really listen to what they actually do say. They have a vested interest in the success of the company, if so many people are actually saying what Brandon did ... and they are saying the same thing, then maybe you should listen. Terren ... this is on you, seriously thar new bud ... look into this. Someone needs to take what happened here onboard, and make a decision or two. Linus has made the company into a good thing, but has also made some critical mindset fails, and the company is losing face. Maybe Steve opened the door today, but the issues are not new, we have heard Linus say for a long time now ... he will not spend money to reshoot or properly fix a video. That has to change. If keeping an incorrect video online because you just cant spend a couple hundred ... or five hundred dollars for a host, shooter and editor time to fix a bad mouse review mistake moment ... to ensure the viewers get good information, and the fear of lost revenue or a pissed sponsor is the risk of pulling and replacing a video when its too late and taking the hit ... then something in that decision making model needs to change. and no ... a quick splashed text on the screen or a pinned comment doesn't count, in the case of the mouse, I didnt see the pinned comment, I didnt scroll down ... the mouse was just no good. That video should have been pulled and re recorded ... period. What this means, and what I realized a long while ago ... I just keep in mind to not trust any LMG content, with my wallet open. But I'll still watch the Wan Show and click on the fun, I just have to turn off actual purpose. Kinda like reading a grocery store cashier lineup tabloid rag. Catch the title, enjoy the joke, scoff at the ludicrousness ... but leave it on the shelf. Is this what LMG and LTT will always be for me? The future? Thats up to Terren.
  5. Whew ... kinda figured, I just didnt need the potential scare. Very unkind message to drop on ya ... makes you stop and reassess.
  6. Hey, - Asus TUF b650 Plus wifi - AMD Ryzen7 7800X3D - Corsair vengence 6000t/ms RAM cooler, 1000w PSU, etc. All parts new, straight from manufacturer, nothing refurb as far as I know, etc. Sitting on box on table like a test bench to troubleshoot, setup, update bios, install windows, etc ... before dropping in a case, adding GPU etc. Turned rig on, have updated bios on thumbdrive plugged in, followed bios menu to EZ flash utility, select c orrect file ... and I get the: ----------- "IMPORTANT NOTICE!!! Please back up Bitlocker recovery key and suspend Bitlocker encryption in the operating system before updating bios. To avoid unpredictable situations, please load default settings before updating the bios." ----------- This system has never had a windows install waved in its general direction, much less installed so I can go there and turn off Bitlocker encryption. I have read elsewhere that not adhering to this need could in fact encrypt the computer and pretty much lock it up ... paper weight ... but how to I turn off Bitlocker in windows, if windows isnt installed? THE QUESTION ... and if 2 or more people can chime in with the same answer, I would move forward: - Is this a default bios update message everyone will see on first bootup and bios upgrade, even brand new builds that have no windows install, and I can ignore this terrifying message, update the bios and continue with the setup as per ... always?? - Has this MB been installed as a windows system previously (ie: refurbished), with a different CPU and I opened a can of worms here? If so, what to do? Not touching anything till the good people here sound off.
  7. Honestly, just trying to come up with something that will work to solve this, so viewers who do prefer to watch live, can find info on long delays ... that is all. What they have obviously doesnt work, as a bunch of people here agree. And many more in chats (in this case the 24 hour video chat, at the time last friday), that complained of the excessive wait. There likely is no 'perfect answer', this was just an idea, and an opportunity to vent that waiting sucks... if an easy solution to communicate better means we dont need to.
  8. Uhmmm ... no. Maybe misunderstood. Said carefully; post on the other many social sites a link to the WAN forum thread, that viewers could go to regarding relevant information regarding the WAN Show. Thats what I said the first time and the tried to say the second time. The 'telling viewers what to check in case of needing to know' might be misunderstood. Intended to say, tell viewers to check the forum for updates if the show hasnt started. That is all. The secondary thing is, live watchers of WAN are not massive numbers, compared to VOD later watchers. Thirdly, it may attract more forum users. Basically a win, win, win.
  9. Soo ... in response to a few comments here ... Sure Youtube, Twitch and other access points may or may not have ways to create updates ... but that on its own is a multi-zone mess. A staff person would have to go to half a dozen social points to independently post news regarding the hopeful start of the show. Thats a waste of time. IF ltt didnt have its own online focal point for users ... ie: didnt have the forum, then ya ... it would all make sense to find a way on those channels to post something ... but ltt has the Forum ... in other words the perfect tool. Use it. All other video and social site pages could simply post a permanent link to the Forum thread, telling viewers what to check in case of needing to know when its going to start. Yes, I am watching and waiting on various platforms, but that just means that its already failing if I didnt know the show wasnt going to start till 9:30, as none of them were updated with the info. Thats a systemic fail. Telling Dan he (or someone else) has to go to all those sites to post updates is just too much to expect him to do. He's a busy guy. So, I got to sit there and wait, rather than take advantage of the time and go out and do something. And thats the point, yes I am watching and waiting ... for 3 hours. The inference that that is ok, you're already there and captive, so just be patient ... is not ok, when the solution is soo simple, and respects the needs and lives of committed subscribers and watchers of LTT product. And ya ... obviously Linus in traffic or on a set recording something, a badmonton game where Linus embarrasses himself with Viktor Axelsen (lol) or a myriad of reasons can mean the show might be late ... and thats fine. Part of the norm of the WAN Show is that its casual and intentionally not the BBC 10pm news, where hell pays if it starts 15 seconds late. Its ... whatever ... we'll get there casual. And thats fine. But that doesnt negate the need to communicate when it may be 3 hours late. Its an easy solution of a little communication ... a simple post "Running late, we figure start time could be after 9pm" ... or whatever time. Permanent posts on the video/social sites can remind people to check the forum ... all done. Why are people suggesting a far more difficult process?
  10. Too often, we find ourselves sitting in front of our computers, awaiting the beginning of the WAN Show. Usually, it invariably begins, often a bit late ... occasionally VERY late ... today, its 8pm Vancouver time and it still hasnt started, no post anywhere we know about; no tweet, nada FB post, and certainly no LTT Forum post informing the dirty masses that its running late, or potentially not starting at all. When awaiting the show, a lowly viewer may tend to peruse various LTT feeds on the interwebs, in an attempt to find any info on the possibility as to when the WAN show will begin ... if at all. One in this moment may think "gee ... maybe I should check the ever-famous one stop shop that is LTT Forums. While one attempts this, one realizes just how fruitless it truly is. How could any sort of a timely update regarding the WAN show be on the LTT forum ... if there is no thread on this forum, specific to the WAN show for anyone to check? Well ... there isnt ... at all. It just doesnt exist. Am I wasting my Friday evening awaiting a show that will never come? Can I perhaps do something useful in my life for a while ... pop out to the store ... change the babies diaper ... if I knew the show was going to start late? But no, we know nothing, we are just left hanging. Do we ... matter so little as to not deserve any sort of update notification at all? Lets assume that LTT, LMG and all attributing conglomerate properties attached to the WAN show actual gave a crap about what the rest of us are doing on a Friday ... awaiting a show even though we have no idea if it will start at all, or if it did ... when? Therefore, a formal LTT Forum suggestion: A pinned thread on the forum main page, titled simply WAN SHOW. A staff person: probably Linus or Luke or Dan be charged with the job of posting the known approximate time for the show to start, once the information is available (be it team meetings or key person communications through the day or early evening), and this thread be used to post the expected showtime, or forward that the show is cancelled ... on this forum thread. If concerned, this particular thread could even have user comments turned off so it doesnt fill up with the usual meanderings of responders ... it could literally be focused on just one way facts: When the show is expected to start, or if it is cancelled. It could even grow someday into providing a bit more info on what to expect during the show, subjects, topics, etc. Week after week this single one way communication would just be there, creating knowledge, warmth and comfort for WAN show viewer angst ... like now ... its 8:30pm Vancouver time ... and around the world ... we are just simply ghosted. Sure, stuff happens, even emergencies ... lots of reasons why it may be late or cancelled ... and all those are perfectly fine, LL&D are people ... stuff happens, everyone has families, no problem. BUT no one even thinking about the massive amounts of viewers left hanging, or just not bothering to let us know that 'unforeseen circumstances' or whatever have happened. Whats missing is a simple process, a small delegation, a momentary attention to an extremely dedicated crowd. Not one staff person is tasked with just dropping a note. And if there was, theres nowhere to drop it. Thats honestly not good enough, we deserve a little more than just being "oh, dont worry about the viewers ... they'll just be there, whenever we get around to it, we dont need to tell them anything". Linus ... Do better. Admin: dont unilaterally boot this, please kick it up the food chain to LTT, let it be discussed. Thank You, Pitboy
  11. Cudos to LMG for changing tracks with eightsleep. I was the one (I think) that might have started this with this thread, and its nice to see LMG is willing to look into their sponsorships when there are questions regarding ethical sales techniques, like expensive subs like this, and little to no detail exactly what will happen if you cancel your sub. Again, I dont mind the expensive product, even if it was more expensive had they just added the sub cost to the price, instead of just selling us a sub on top of purchase ... this kind of product is expensive, and thats fine. But selling a long term sub ... as a newer company ... just falls flat for me. Even after the WAN show discussing this, we still dont know in detail what works and doesnt work after the sub is gone, because as a non present user, I dont know really ... how it even works, and Linus didnt actually explain it except to say he doesnt use the subs benefits anyways, which is cool ... but what does that mean regarding the product? So I still dont really know, so I wont be buying.
  12. Re the Eightsleep subscription discussion. Out of pure curiosity ... and a definite desire to avoid fixing my dual zone mattress cooling issues by way of building a home made system a-la Linus and Alex video on May 20, 2023 ... ... I take a deep dive at the sponsor eightsleeps website to see their plug and play product, and am hit with a serious misgiving: - Sure ... it costs $2,700CDN up front, before tax, but lets assume I'm fine with that outlay ... then you realize you actually cant buy it without signing up to a monthly/annual membership which provides access to the 'Pod'. To be clear, the website doesnt in plain language define what is the 'Pod'. You MUST purchase this membership for the initial one year period at the $240CDN billed annual rate. From one side you could say that its just a scammy way of charging $2,940 for the upfront purchase (before tax). Welcome to 2023 ... Moving on. Lets just start by immediately discounting the more expensive 'lifetime warranty' option. One: 'lifetime' means nothing. Who's to say that upstart eightsleep will even be around in 25 years. Should they survive for even 10 years, I will have put an additional $2,400 (plus tax) specifically towards the warrantee ... you see the problem, as that's basically the value of the system. At the end of the day, we dont know if the warrantee will be valid in 10 years, and we will be able to repurchase the product by then anyways ... wait ... what? Thats not a warrantee, its an insurance policy. Not even a car manufacturer will charge the value of the product after running their scammy sub system for just 10 years. For a $50,000 car that would be almost $500 a month for a warrantee. For eightsleep ... this is a flag all on its own. And 2 ... it speaks to a manufacturer that ONLY warrantees their product beyond 30 days, if you pay a lot more for it. Auto red flag. Beyond all that, we dont actually know what the warrantee covers. Lets say at the end of the first year, I decide to not continue with the 'membership' ... then what? - Does it simply mean a loss of any future upgrades or updates eightsleep come up after this date? Sure ok, if 100% of the system still works, then Im fine with that. That would be like running Win98 on an offline closed system that works perfectly well for the low end industrial task it has to do ... fine. It could continue to work for years and years. I would be a happy mattress cooling product owner. - or does it mean I lose connection to adjust the dual temperature system or lose access to the software at all? Or do I lose connection to my parallel health devices that eightsleeps software links to? - The website details the service as 'Automatic temperature, vibration & thermal alarm, sleep & health reports' ... but what does that mean? 'Automatic temperature' ... sounds like a basic function ... no? Thats all it says ... its undefined. - The problem here isnt the limitation really, its the company being open and forthright as to exactly what will not work the same, or at all, if the membership is cancelled. The way it is detailed on the site ... we just dont know what will happen and how my near $3000 purchase will operate post 12 months. For this reason, I backed away from the site. I wont be buying in. In addition I felt it to be reasonable to discuss this with LMG here about eightsleep as a sponsor, and the reality of just what their followers are actually signing up for. I'm not saying cancel the sponsorship, but perhaps someone on the LMG team could head over to the eightsleep website as a potential purchaser and try to parse through just what are the actual risks involved for their followers. If you cancel the warrantee, what actually happens? Should this staff person purchase the product and summarily cancel the warrantee, to see what happens? Should Linus and Yvonne cancel theirs and report on what happens? If that someone walks away feeling unsure on behalf of their viewers ... perhaps some follow up with eightsleep to have more clarity on their website regarding this warranty issue ... is warranted. Thank you.
  13. Good content ... but: So this MG guy is sitting there smiling while he describes his baby that attackers can use to attack companies that I'm using the services from, therefore at the end of the day, making my life difficult and eventually driving up the price of the services I will want to use in the future. It is no excuse (as he says) that bad actors are more interested in national and multinationals they can hold for ransom, stealing my private or personal information as a data grab to sell if the company wont pay up, or nation states interested in harming our electoral system ... than my personal rig at home here ... but enough said ... a system hacked, affects us all, if not today, then one day when someone attacks somewhere that I (or you) are using. No, I have no 'its complicated' relationship with this product or the maker of this product. MG is an evil actor, empowering less smart bad actors with the tools to attack that which matters to me. And his smug little smile makes me squirm. His product should be illegal, and he should be charged for developing technology designed only to harm individuals and businesses. It is illegal to build, sell or buy those fake debit machines that can be attached to fuel pumps or those scanners that scans a crowd for card info and rips people off. There is no viable non bad actor purpose for a product like this and the law should recognize that. This is no different.
  14. With the power failure, and the videos as found on youtube ... As a viewer who watches NOT live ... we never did hear the complete synopsis of Alex and MS on the Laptop issue. We got the first bit before the power cut, then thats it. This is a key story, and you guys have the inside track. I guess we are waiting for next week now, but please do an LTT video on this story. It matters to a lot of people with dead batteries.
  15. Just saw De8auer do an activity at a tech event in Sweden. Timed PC rebuild. Take out and replace a CPU, Video Card, and memory ... thats it ... as quickly as you can. Nothing screwed in, no cooler, in a simple case. Expect to get mashed CPU MB pins. Roman in this video managed it in sub 20 seconds. LTX could run head to head competitions with staff vs attendees. Watch at about 16 minutes:
