Kyo_Ma reacted to mr moose in NVIDIA winning against Samsung in court!
Oh no, a court has decided the issues Nvidia have taken to court are legitimate and can go to trial.   Everyone must be an nvidia fanboy.

Please, some of the arguments in this thread are just laughable.  You guys couldn't put your emotional bias aside to even read the OP properly, Let alone understand why this case is going ahead.  You all think you understand but clearly you don't.

Anyone not blinkered can see a few conditions here that clearly make the case legitimate:

Nvidia hasn't sued before - so clearly not patent trolls (even though the AMD fanboys are too stupid to get that)
Intel are paying nvidia for this same IP - so the IP is legit both in precedent and by court approval
Samsung actually physically make the chips and uses them in their phones - if they don't pay for the IP then it is a legit claim from Nvidia.

I don't care what company you hate or prefer, the irrational behaviour is getting tiring, the last thread about this went on for ages, and even with the original court filings linked people still ignore the facts and just made shit up. .

Kyo_Ma reacted to GoodBytes in watches to be banned in Colleges/ Universities during exam as they might be "smart watches"
They won't touch your watch, they'll give you 3 choices:
1- You leave your watch with them until the end of the exact, because you were not suppose to bring with them in the first place as you were warned about it, and hope the best for it.
2- They don't allow you in the exam room, and you fail your course.
3- You are expelled from the university with note on your record, so now any other university won't take you, with any luck that another university will take you after 5-7 years wait since the event, and even then probably be under strict probation, essentially ruining your career path. You may be able to change country and try again, that might work, but I think you understand the headache.
Being rich or heck, even the son of the president or king won't help you at all at University. The university reputation comes first for them. They would prefer to have 0 contribution from anyone, or donations or heck you simply not pay your tuition than ruining their reputation.
Beside, failing you, and kicking you out, ups the University reputation. Sadly, a key component on university ranking (which is the best university? type of raking), is sadly based on failure rate (a big component of the grading). The more student fails, the better the university ranking. As it is not seen, by the grading system (which everyone values), that the university is simply not good as it has horrible professors, but instead that it is a challenging and demanding, and that few passes, therefore more the graduates are qualified. Yes, it is idiotic, but sadly that is the reality. And that is a different subject. But as this is what most people uses based their decision on hiring people in select fields and joining university, this is what universities focuses on in improving.
If you wonder, other key elements in the ranking are: research done (hence more so on their focus on preparing you to be a research and not prepare you for the work field), and the number of renown people they can get from the work field to come in and teach. Now you know a big reason why Harvard is so expensive, despite being in the middle of no where (ie: not downtown or close to downtown like some other universities).
So trust me, they'll kick you out with immense pleasure.

In the Universities defense, it is critical that they are very strict in preventing cheating. If a University is found to have a lot of cheaters, the news breakout would kill the establishment reputation, and ruin current graduates as now their degree has no more value, despite they genuinely work for it.
Say you have University XYZ which you learn on the news that it has the most cheaters. You, as an employer, would you hire anyone from there?
Even if the person graduated 5 years already since the news, you wont' hire them, as you would see that the story was simply not caught back then.
As a future student, would you register at University XYZ if you heard the news? Most likely not.
So I understand Universities actions on that regard.
As for keeping track of time, universities during tests usually have a clock in the room which you can look at, and/or write on a board how much time is left. Beside, many students don't wear a watch as they normally use their phone, which they can't have during the exam in any case, hence not been a problem.

Or do we have souls.? The definition of a soul, is intangible (pun not intended). What makes a soul? Do other beings have souls, like cats, dogs, wolves, and other animals?

Biologists will tell you that any living organism is basically biological clockwork, and that different organs work together to do different things, this holds true even down to the subcellular level. Do our mitochondria have souls? Do they decide when to produce ATP based off what their feeling are? Such a thing seems silly to ask, but if applies to the whole of the system (a human), why not the sub-systems (cellular and molecular level)?

As you can see, this question is hard to answer, and in a way is a sort of paradox.

If you define a 'soul' as an emotional and metaphysical object, then I guess you might be able to get away with the argument you made, but we feel and comprehend emotions based on our ability to interpret information, the same goes for our metaphysical principle of 'the self'. We are shape, adapt, learn, and express emotions due to our experiences. In the end, our brains are nothing more than a series of neurons, sending electrical pulses to one another, interpreting information.

PS: I'm not arguing with your statement, I'm just looking at it in a different light. Sometime taking a different angle, can help everyones understanding of the subject.

Kyo_Ma reacted to Xorbot in Trouble is here for the #1 next gen console after the latest update for the PS4
I haven't turned it on since the update.  So this news post is great for me.  My reasons for a PS4 is:

    - First party titles. Uncharated, God of War, Jak and Daxter (hopefully there is one), The Last of Us
    - I am an indie game developer with a current partnership with Sony.
    - I have tons of money (as stated earlier), hehe

Would I like to play those first party titles on my PC instead? Absolutely.  But unfortunately it doesn't work like that, so I must buy a PS4 to enjoy further gaming content and experiences.

Some people take everything that has to do with it WAY too seriously. Sure I agree with supporting equality, but damn is demanding that they absolutely must satisfy you going a bit overboard. Though I do seriously doubt that it would be complicated to do this.

This little gem, of what I assume is satire, is a perfect example of extremism.

Those who assume just because their personal ideal isn't there automatically means they are being oppressed.
