  1. Yes, the XPS was on my short list, but the lack of USB A and HDMI ports and the fact that they aren't shipping until May dissuaded me.
  2. Hello LTT forum! I am looking to purchase a new notebook and have my sights set on a Thinkpad X1 Carbon gen 9. It will definitely work for my general use case, but I have one concern. On rare occasions I will need to use this machine to run a livestream through OBS. It is not a complicated stream, two cameras and sound in from a mixer, streaming to youtube at 720p30. Can the 1165g7 (or 1185g7) with integrated Xe graphics and 16 gb RAM handle this task, or do I need to go to something with a discrete GPU? I really appreciate any input any opinions you all have.
  3. OK, I appreciate the insight. I'm seeing temps that I'm not super comfortable with in this setup, so I may swap the factory thermal pad for some thermal compound to see if I can improve transfer from the IHS to the water loop.
  4. My BIOS is the newest and my chipset is up to date according to Gigabyte's available downloads, but not AMD's direct. Should I update to the most recent on amd.com?
  5. I recently built a new system and I am having an issue with the fan speed for the AIO fans. It is a Gigabyte AORUS B450 Elite mobo with a Fractal Celsius+ S28 AIO. I have the AIO hooked up according to the manual, with the pump (and thus fans) plugged in to the CPU_FAN header on the mobo. The fans for the AIO do not ramp up with temperature increases. If I use the Gigabyte SIV utility to set fans to full there is a definitive increase in sound and cooling performance, but any other setting seems to just keep the fans on their lowest RPM. I have tried setting Smart Fan 5 to Auto and PWM in BIOS and tried setting the pump between its Auto and PWM modes. What am I doing wrong?
  6. I really appreciate the advice. I will use the extra hundred bucks from the nvme drive and upgrade the video card to maybe a 1660 super
  7. I will definitely re-use some pieces of my current build, but my current case leaves a lot to be desired. I will be moving all of my HDD storage from the current machine, but I am using a 512gb SSD as boot and figured I should probably go to an m2 slot to save SATA ports. How would moving the current SSD boot drive to the new PC go with having to reinstall windows on the new machine? Would I need to wipe it? The SSD is currently storing frequently accessed files, so I guess I could move them all to HDD and wipe the drive.
  8. Thank you. I wasn't sure if the stock cooler was good enough, so I added in the AIO. You think this will get me better results than adding a 2080 to my current build?
  9. I recently have been voluntold to manage getting my family's small church moving with online Sunday services. I managed to stitch together this week's service with my current computer, but the process was rather painful/slow. I'm currently running an i7-4790k with 24gb DDR3 and a 750ti. I ran into some issues with both scrubbing through the preview in Premiere/After Effects and final render time of the 35 minute final product. My budget for resolving my issues is around 1,000 USD. Am I better off building a new system based on a newer CPU, but skimping on video card due to budget; or should I spend that on getting a new high-end video card for my current build. A new video card would most likely also require a new power supply -- my current supply is 350w. I have been looking at the below build and adding in a used video card as the total replacement option: PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor ($298.99 @ B&H) CPU Cooler: Corsair iCUE H100i RGB PRO XT 75 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($119.99 @ Newegg) Motherboard: Asus PRIME X570-P ATX AM4 Motherboard ($147.00 @ B&H) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory ($159.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Crucial P1 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive ($109.99 @ B&H) Case: Fractal Design Focus G ATX Mid Tower Case ($56.87 @ Newegg) Power Supply: Corsair RMx (2018) 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($119.99 @ Newegg) Total: $1012.82 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-04-06 15:31 EDT-0400 I appreciate any advice you can offer. TLDR: Upgrade video card in my current system or upgrade entire system with lower end video card
