  1. Tweaked build with the 3-fan RTX 2070 GPU. All in all about 2580 USD in CZ prices. (Seems about the same as PCPartPicker prices when you add the missing SSD to them) Thanks everybody! 2. Sapphire AMD RADEON PULSE RX 5700 8G OC - $400 I've looked at RTX 2070 SUPER with three fans (more silent) and that's $646 in CZ... So I'm a bit torn between the GPUs. I don't plan to use CUDA etc. for GPU computing. What's your opinion? Should I go with the RX 5700? Re PSU: Thanks for the note about Platinum everybody, swapped it for Corsair RMx (2018) 650W - $105 in CZ Re RAM: Again thanks for the 2x16GB 3600MHz idea. Makes sense to keep two slots empty for the future upgrades. Swapped it for G.SKILL Trident Z Neo - $222 in CZ Re case: Looked at the Fractal Design Meshify - $112 in CZ. Interesting that cases seem to be overall more expensive in CZ Re monitors: Thanks for the input. I'm now contemplating something like a single 1440p Dell 27" S2719DGF for ~$365, plus one smaller 1080p monitor... I do mainly web frontend, so not necessarily multithreaded long-running processes. Should I go for a CPU with better single-core performance then? 3800X / 3900X or something? (I reckon I'll be fine with 3700X - my laptop has quadcore i7-6700HQ @ 2.60GHz and mostly does fine.) I don't have experience with AMD drivers on Linux, but the closed nVidia drivers for GTX 960M work just fine for me on Manjaro and RuneScape performs *better* for me on Linux than in Windows. (More consistent 60FPS.) I guess I'll check the state of 2070 drivers though! ---- My current tweaked setup (still need to figure out GPU then): PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor ($298.99 @ B&H) CPU Cooler: be quiet! 3. Hello! I'm planning a build for my home office - my laptop is becoming less and less of a laptop (battery is dying, keyboard died a watery death), and I wanted to give myself an upgrade. So I'm transitioning from a laptop to a desktop; want to future-proof it a bit and give myself a "games run at 60+ FPS" feeling for the first time in my life 1. Budget & Location Location = Czech Republic; I've been sourcing the prices over various Czech e-shops. I can buy stuff from abroad, but I'm not hunting every penny. The parts I've listed are about 2460 USD in total when converted to USD from CZK prices. See my additions to the PCPartPicker table below. My budget is about 2000 to 3000 USD. 2. Aim My main use of the PC is programming. I'm not Docker/VM heavy, so I probably don't need HEAPS of memory, but I probably wouldn't go below 16GB (that's what I have currently). I ocassionally play games (eg. Borderlands 2, Dota 2, RuneScape but with this new system I'll likely try new stuff as well), and as mentioned above I'd like to have a maxed-out game settings for a change. So even though I don't really need the GPU (not gaming every single day), this is more of a splurge thing. Also, when I'll move to our new house after renovating I'd like to use the computer for some amateur audio production/recording (I reckon I'll be adding some Focusrite external audio card to the system.) So this is why I've put the 2TB SSD there - VST audio samples are quite large sometimes. Also perhaps if you could advise me on how can I make the system more silent, that would be great. 3. Monitors The monitors are in my part list - 2x Dell 24". My main criteria were for them to be easy on my eyes (given I write code for a living) - so I was searching for something with antireflex, antiflicker, blue light reduction and all that stuff; but I don't have experience with whether that helps at all. I can live with 1920x1080 just fine, but perhaps if you have some advice on a larger monitor with 4K (so that it can be used without HiDPI scaling and I could use more screen real estate), that would be interesting to hear. So far I've only used one monitor (on my laptop), so I can't say if I'll be moving to more than two monitors anytime soon. Will have to try the two-monitor setup first. 4. Peripherals I have keyboard and mouse already; will be buying some ergonomic replacements later, but that doesn't need to be a part of this build. OS: Linux, ocassionaly Windows for games. 5. Why are you upgrading? As mentioned above. Moving from laptop to desktop, trying to get something where games run fast for a change. PCPartPicker tells me the wattage is around 404W, so ... 560W should be fine? I'd like to pick some low-hanging OC fruit if possible (never done that though). * any easy changes for a more silent build? Thanks everybody!
