  1. I've tried three different drives in it. They all work in other computer and not work in it. And I don't think it's an over heating problem because once I'm in the OS I can run stress tests all day long and it doesn't care.
  2. First, it's Windows 10. Second, the windows logo will come up, the circles will come up, do about half a spin and then the computer compelete loses power.
  3. I have been fixing computers for a long time and I have come across some really strange issues, but this one has me stumped. I have a laptop that will not boot into windows from a cold boot. I have reinstalled windows and I have the same problem. Wakes up from sleep fine, restarts just fine, but if you try to start it up, it's a no go. As a way for me to get into the OS I figured out that if it's off, I can boot a the windows OS flash drive I have, then cancel the setup. This makes the laptop restart and boot into windows just fine. Any ideas?
  4. But both drives work just fine with DVDs in other computers, it's just the file server that they don't work with.
  5. Yep, everything is good in the device manager, OS is up to date, media player software is up to date.
  6. One is an external usb 2.0 and one is an internal SATA.
  7. Shows up in file explorer for both of the drives, but if I go to play the DVD on anything other than VLC it will say the disc is empty and VLC says your input can't be opened.
  8. I have my main gaming rig, that works just fine, and I have a server that I put together from some used parts from a bunch of different old computers, which doesn't work quite right. One of the things I've done with the file server is I hooked it up to my TV, mainly to watch movies. The problem is that it won't read DVDs. I have tried two separate DVD drives that both work on other machines with about half a dozen DVD that all work on other computers. Here are the specs on the file server: Core 2 Quad 6600 4GB DDR2 ASUS 2A73H GTS 250 160GB Hitachi 1TB WD Red The two disc drives that I've tried are an HP OEM drive and a slim ASUS external drive. Any help would be appreciated, I ran out of ideas about an hour ago and I just want to get this working.
  9. I would say networking is my one big, horrible, glaring weakness right now. So anything having to do with networking would be good.
  10. I already have a job in IT and I'm currently working towards an AS degree focusing on computer science. I was curious about what certifications you guys recommend. I not looking for the ones that employers look for, because I already have a job, I'm looking for the ones that I will learn the most from.
  11. The problem is, it can keep it at 72C if I have all of the fans turned to max and the to panel off of my case, without that, my CPU gets up to the 80's. I've taken off and put the cooler back on at least 3 times, and I've had a different cooler on it with the same problem. Mines clocked at 4GHz and its under volted, with the fans running at 100%, only then can I keep it to 72C. Did you even read my post? I never said it heated to only 69C. Also, with the cooler and fans set to "performance" in the corsair link software, and my case fully assembled, I've seen it hit 94C, and it throttles to 3GHz.
  12. I have had problems with my 4790k since I got it, a year and a half ago. It has always run a little hot, but I figured I just got unlucky. It was a little disappointing, but I would be fine. Until a few months ago, I just dealt with it. I had an H100i and it was in a mITX case, so the temps weren't great. It would idle in the 40's and during a stress test would get into the 70's. Then my SO wanted a PC so I gave her some parts including my cooler and I got a H100i GTX. For some reason, it got worse temps by about 10C. I reseated my CPU, reseated the cooler, applied new thermal paste, the whole 9 yards. But nothing worked. So I RMAed my CPU and Intel sent me a new one. At first it seemed to fix the problem a little, but I was still underwhelmed. It was pretty much just back to the temps I was getting with the H100i. At the time, I was busy with work and school and I decided I would deal with it later. Well, later is now. I did a bunch of testing, I removed everything that could possible obstruct airflow, including the front and top panels. Turned all of the fans up to 100%, under volted it and ran some tests. Lowest I could get it was 40C at idle and 72C with a stress test and that's with .2V less than stock. I'm running out of ideas, I contacted ASUS about something that could potentially be wrong with the motherboard, but they haven't got back to me yet. And I've contacted a friend that also has a 4790k to see if we could switch CPUs and run some tests to see if his CPU heats up as much as mine in my system. Although, I think I would have to be the unluckiest person on earth to get 2 CPUs that overheat in a row. Any suggestions would be great. EDIT: I noticed that when I stop running a step test, the temps immediately (within a second) drop back to almost idle temps and then they slow go down from there, and as soon as I start the stress test it jumps up to about 68C and then climbs. Also, I have used OCCT, Cinebench, Intel Extreme Tuner and Prime95 (old version) for my stress testing.
  13. I have 200mm fan in the front of my case, and the H100i GTX in the top, there's no cables in the way of the airflow and will all of the fans at max, and with the vcore at 1.1V, and with my ram set back to default I was able to keep it under 75C.
  14. It's not the cooler, I tried it on another computer and it worked fine. I've already done is twice and I moved it to a different computer and it works fine on it. CPU-Z says 1.202V under 100% load. Idle fluctuates a lot between 35C-40C.
  15. Ambient is around 25C, CPU is at 4.4GHz and voltage is 1.2V. The pump is running and the fans are spinning. Vcore under load is 1.2V, and it is on performance mode.
  16. I've had the 4790k that I have now for about a year and it has always ran hotter than the benchmarks I've seen online, but I figured mine just ran hot. I used to have an H100i and while running OCCT stress test it would be running around 80C. Today I got a H100i GTX and I gave the H100i to my friend. The H100i on her CPU is working fine (3770k with OCCT at 60C), but my H100i GTX hits the 85C limit of OCCT in a few seconds and while running Cinebench it hits 90C in about 5 seconds. I have already reseated the CPU once, reseated the cooler twice and applied new thermal paste each time and it is still running really hot. Do any of you have ideas about what I could do?
  17. I do, I actually use both of those programs and I perfer them greatly, but it just bothers me sometimes and I wish it would just work right.
  18. The task manager in Windows 10 has been reporting my CPU clock is at .8GHz and my RAM clock at 1600MHz when CPU-Z reports my CPU clock at 4.4GHz and my RAM frequency at 2400MHz. Is there anything I can do about this?
  19. Yeah, the drive still works, and in the router's interface, it sees the drive just fine.
  20. A couple of months ago I bought a Linksys WRT1200AC router when I moved into my new place. It has worked perfect since I got it. A couple of weeks after I got it I decided to hook up one of my external 1TB hard drives to it and use it as a network drive. After I got it all setup, I tested it on my desktop, running Windows 10, and on my Macbook Air, on both the Mac OS X and Windows 7 partitions and it worked perfectly. Then, about a week ago, I haven't been able to connect to it, but I haven't had the time. Then today I had some extra time and in about an hour I exhausted all of my ideas, so if you guys have any ideas how to get it to work I'm all ears. So far, I've restarted the router, removed and reconnected the hard drive, and flashed older firmware to the router, then flashed the newest firmware back on.
  21. That is how I'm trying to update it, is through the windows update.
  22. I am upgrading from build 10159 to 10240 and every time it stops at 53% of the way through the first step of installing it, restarts and reverts back to build 10159. I have around 50GB of free space on my boot drive. I've noticed that occasionally the OS will ask me to verify my Microsoft account information, and I put in my password and then it leaves me alone, but it pops up about once a day.
  23. I just got a H100i and I have noticed that when the computers starts up or wakes from sleep the fans run at 100% for about 15 seconds or so and afterwards they quiet down to about 20% and it is barely audible. Is there anything I can do about that to either make it not happen or make it switch to the thermal controlled speed faster?
  24. I have been playing Borderlands 2 on and off since it came out, but this Steam sale finally pushed me over the top and I need to clear out my hard drive a little. In Borderlands 2 all I need to do to get all of the achievements is beat Terramorphous. So if you have a high level character and know you can fairly easily beat Terramorphous send me a request on Steam at spartin503.
  25. I was using Windows 10 for a while with no problems and then when the option was added for the fast updates for the builds I enabled it and with the first or second update after that my screen would flash repeatedly once or twice a second and it would unfocus on what I was selected on. It wouldn't just flash black though, it would flash the color of my theme, which at the time was grey. I figured I would just revert back to an older build, and that failed. Then I decided to just reinstall Windows 10 and get the builds slowly. My pc continued working well for a while until the build that originally gave me the problems became cleared for the slow builds. In the event viewer there was 4 messages repeated every time the screen flashed. The first one was error 1000 and said there was a problem with explorer.exe. Then the reset were information that talked about the notifaction center. I've looked around online and I couldn't find any other person with this problem but if there is anything that I can do to fix this that would be great. I took a video of what is happening to give you a better idea of what's going on: My pc specs are: I7-4790k GTX 780 Maximus Impact VII Sandisk Extreme 120GB SSD 2x4GB DDR3 1866MHz If there is any other information you need just ask.
