  1. Sounds like that's the only way forward. I'll let him know, cheers. Knowing him, he'll probably keep trying to go through Amazon's customer support...
  2. It was the same email address between the two accounts that allowed them to be connected. He's already been charged for all the parts, including the ones that weren't delivered.
  3. It was a brand new credit card. The Amazon purchase was one of the first purchases on it afaik. I have suggested going through the credit card company but he wants to try and avoid any further complications with Amazon.
  4. Hi all, In September, my dad moved from the UK to Canada for work. One of the first things he wanted to do was build a gaming PC so we can have something to do together on the weekends. After getting a Canadian phone number and payment method sorted, he went to Amazon.ca and with a little help from me picked out some reasonably priced parts for his build. Shortly after checking out the order, he recieved an email that his order had been cancelled and that suspicious activity had been detected on his account. When he logged back in, all of his info had been reset to the details he was using in the UK. He reentered all of his new info and ordered the parts again. Once again, Amazon sent him a message notifying him of a cancelled order and suspicious activity. He is also now down roughly 3000 CAD. Fast forward a week or so and parcels start arriving. He now has parts of both orders with a lot of stuff in duplicate but still no sign of the RAM or GPU. He went to a local PC shop and picked up the same RAM as he attemped to order but has had no luck (yet) finding a GPU. He's been in near constant contact with Amazon support who are currently telling him there is no way to return/refund the duplicate items sent to him as there is no record of them on his account. Can anyone in Canada please suggest how to proceed and maybe where my dad might be able to pick up a decent(ish) GPU for a reasonable price in the Owen Sound area of ON?
  5. Cheers, I'm going to take some measurements and see what I can rig up. I'm assuming it'd be combination of standoffs and spacers in this order from the bottom up: Countersunk M4 Bolt > Bottom of Case > Spacer > Motherboard > Standoff > Waterblock > Cap Top M4 Bolt
  6. Oh, that's a point. I haven't checked. Somebody on this reddit post claims to have watercooled one though.
  7. Yeah, it's an old server but I got it for an absolute steal! It's currently my Folding@Home and pfSense (firewall + routing) rig so it's running flat out pretty much 24/7. I've actually moved my gaming rig out of that room due to the fan noise. I've not looked at the actual dB but it's audible in every room of the house.
  8. Hi all, I've got a (very noisy) HP Proliant DL180 G6 with dual Xeon X5667s and I'm planning to watercool it. I saw in a recent LTT video that EK(?) make a small form factor rad that'd probably work great in this build so I thought now would be a good time to give it a shot. I've never done anything with custom loop watercooling before but I'm pretty confident I can pull it off. The only thing I'm struggling with is finding a block that will fit socket 1366. I'm looking for part numbers or links to items in the UK. Cheers, Josh
  9. Hi all, Thanks for the suggestions! I've decided to go with a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter as I was already looking into some other Ubiquiti stuff but that'll be some way down the line. For now, I have got pfSense running in a VM. I set up a gateway group and set the default gateway to this group but I've encountered a strange issue. Load balancing is only working with uploads. I'm testing using speedtest.net with multi-threaded connections as this is how I was testing on the ASUS router. Edit: VirtualBox's default NICs were causing the CPU to max out, limiting the speed to roughly 40mbps. Changing the NICs to the Intel PRO/1000 MT Server and reinstalling pfSense has got everything running smoothly.
  10. Thanks for the response, I unfortunately don't have the option to switch OS at this point as the backup server I'm using is near impossible to set up with the existing clients once it is uninstalled. I can however run a VM but only over a terminal. If it comes to it, I have a spare server that I can use as a standalone firewall but I'd prefer not to as the noise from just the one server can be heard in every room of my house. I've heard that running pfSense in a VM for real work is not a great idea. I don't know about OPNsense though.
  11. Hi all, I've already annoyed quite a few people with this topic on Reddit but I never came away with an answer that either worked or was simple enough for me to understand. I have 2 broadband connections into my home and I would like to use them as a single connection. From my research, I understand that I cannot speed up a single-threaded download with multiple broadband connections. What I've heard is possible through routing, is to utilise both broadband connections for separate devices, effectively increasing bandwidth across the network as a whole. I actually had this working at one point, using an ASUS DSL-AC68U router, with one of the RJ11 cables going straight to the router with the second connection coming in on ethernet port 1 from a router provided by my ISP. From there it was just a case of setting up load balancing in the dual wan settings on the router's web interface. Unfortunately, due to some odd behaviour with devices connected via ethernet on that router, it has been demoted to a glorified WiFi adapter in an area of the house where my powerline adapters don't work so well. I have a server running Ubuntu Server 19.10 that doesn't really do much apart from backups at the moment so I'd like to use it to do whatever the ASUS router was doing, preferably using the 2 onboard ethernet ports for my broadband connections and then the 4 port network card to connect to clients. All of the hardware is up and running but I'm looking for some help with the config on the router side of things. Cheers, Josh
