(insert introductory formalities)
2 days ago I was experiencing sluggish internet speeds (nothing abnormal on occasion) and since it had been a couple weeks or months since my last router reset I went ahead and unplugged my router and plugged it in (practically the limitations of my troubleshooting abilities as will soon become clear). Instead of tuning up my slow speeds, I experienced a very abnormal change in ping and overall connectivity. Multiple speedtests (screenshots to follow), disconnecting/reconnecting the power of both my modem and my router, uninstalling/reinstalling drivers as well as making certain every component of my system is up to date hasn't produced any positive results.
I should state that I am not hardwired to my router (I know, I know) and there is a floor between my desktop and my router; however this has never stopped me from pulling solid speeds with very low ping even considering these potential hindrances.
These 2 speedtests were taken one immediately following the other via WiFi, on the same server, and in the 2nd example you will notice the high ping-but I also think its worth noting that my download speed often shows normal (70+mbps for me) with the high ping more often than not.
Using the wonderful command prompt I ping'd my router to see if the problem was there but it averaged 4ms on the test packets with 0% lost. This is good atleast, right? problem is on my end somewhere; just got to find it.
Tracing a route to google.com however...
If anyone can help me dissect this tracert--or this problem in general; I would be forever indebted to you. What limited research I have done on this topic leads me to believe that my issue is in my settings somehow and perhaps DNS related.
I greatly appreciate those that have taken time to read/respond to this post.
