  1. Good points all around. The modular aspect does allow for perpetual upgrading - and that will guarantee (at the very least) a competitive edge to any console. New consoles coming out won't include the monitor and definitely won't allow me to work from home on it. The let down I guess with this new console generation is thinking that I could have a PC that is head and shoulders above them for only 1000-1300$. Thinking that I'm wayyyy ahead of the curve. But games drive the gaming industry, and I guess if I can get the parts that will play most AAA games at 120-144hz for around that price - I can always upgrade later when games demand it. Decisions will be made...... Thanks
  2. The fear here then, is if gaming consoles get better then developers will push graphics further. You're both right in that I could cut back on pricing by getting older parts or earlier versions. This then cuts back on length of life of the hardware - as in it will fall behind due to consoles pushing the graphical envelope. I'm a new PC gamer, 33 yrs old, but new. Always been on console. My expectation was that PC's were always graphically better with quicker speeds. It just doesn't seem like the gap is as large as I thought. (Granted I'm only talking gaming, and the pricing of these PC parts could be skewing things a bit) I should say that the build mentioned above really comes out to about 1300-1400$ if you don't add the monitor/sound/mouse/keyboard/software. So thats an Xbox and PS5!
  3. Hey guys, I'm building my first PC, and the specs seem awfully similar to that of the new consoles coming out. I was hoping that with a purpose built gaming PC it would trump any console out there, but honestly it just looks like I'm wasting my money. Here are my PC specs: Ryzen 7 3700X Noctua NH-U12S Asus Tuf Gaming X570-Plus 16 GB DDR4-3600 Memory Corsair MP510 960GB NVME SSD Seagate BarraCuda 3 TB HDD XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC II Pro EVGA 650 80+ gold modular psu and add all the peripherals. Total = ~1700$ USD Am I just wasting my money if I can get this with the new XBox coming out? Obviously we can't say for sure how these "custom" parts for the new Series X will behave - but it seems like I would need to spend a lot more money to beat out what they're pitching. Get the LTT crew to weigh in on this. -M
