  1. I bought an android tv device to use with NordVPN (among other things) - nvidia shield pro for me. The Walmart onn box is a good price-effective option.
  2. I did the same shopping for my G3 and the A95K. The store I shopped at had them set up next to each other - compared and decided that between 4000 cad for the g3 and 6000 for the a95k, it was just too big a jump for what is honestly a pretty tough to tell difference - in filmmaker mode, the biggest thing I felt I could see is that the reds particularly popped a little harder on the Sony, but watching a couple pieces of content on both, both were really impressive. Also wanted the 4 hdmi 2.1 ports, so that was a bonus.
  3. There’s a couple reasons - biggest one is that the distance from the moon to the earth, and the earth to the sun, are actually always changing, and the closer the moon is, the longer the period of totality. It also depends on where you are on the globe - the moon is only going to sit in front of the sun for a certain amount of time, so the closer that time lines up with where it passes over your area, the longer it’s going to appear.
  4. All things considered… the time and expensive in building a functional enclosure (bugs, temperature) and running fibre (because power line will not give you the kind of speed you want for a NAS)… probably far outspends many years of cloud storage.
  5. If the add eSIM option isn’t in the Cellular settings, maybe it’s carrier locked? Check Settings > General > About. Or there’s a corporate device management policy restricting that - if they check Settings > General > VPN & Device Management, any certificates should be listed with what’s restricted
  6. ITT a lot of people who have never filed business taxes Getting to “write things off” doesn’t mean you just get to take a $500 item, say it’s “for work”, and then get to not pay $500 in taxes - it’s much, much less than that. the reason jerryrigeverything breaks shit for TikTok/youtube is because for every $500 item he breaks, the platforms are probably paying him $2000 for the views. It’s an expense.
  7. For normal everyday stuff, 8gb goes pretty far on an m series Mac - they’re very efficient with memory for everyday apps, browser tabs, that kind of thing. For coding, it’s just not enough, especially considering future needs. A 16gb one should be your target.
  8. If you really want APP, an Apple Store can apply it within the first year after a genius has a look at it
  9. I don't have any hardware, because what I recommend would be paying somebody to do the digitizing - when my folks wanted some stuff digitized, the amount of money on hardware (buying it, and then getting rid of it when I was done) and time I'd have to spend on it just wasn't worth it.
  10. Is that X85 a refurb? Because that would be very cheap for that model, like 40% off. Around that price, I like the Hisense U68KM (~700+tax at Costco https://www.costco.ca/hisense-65"-class---u68km-series---4k-uled-mini-led-tv.product.4000186847.html) MiniLED at that price is pretty compelling, Android TV is a pretty good OS for a smart TV.
  11. Probably not, and there’s no DV support on Linux.
  12. My partner travels a lot for work and has tried a couple usb-c monitors. We like the Lenovo M15 https://www.newegg.ca/lenovo-m15-15-6-full-hd/p/15Z-0036-00AP2?item=15Z-0036-00AP2&nm_mc=knc-googleadwordsca&cm_mmc=knc-googleadwordsca-_-monitors - portable %26 touchscreen-_-lenovo-_-15Z003600AP2&utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic+shopping&utm_campaign=knc-googleadwordsca-_-monitors - portable %26 touchscreen-_-lenovo-_-15Z003600AP2&source=region Biggest reason why is the power passthrough, which just simplifies cabling when the wall plug is on the wrong side, and it looks fine.
  13. It sounds like you're overthinking things... the amount of power saved by reducing the resolution is extremely minor - you'll get more savings by reducing screen brightness by a few percent.
  14. Are you an investigative journalist chasing stories about dictators? Assuming no, don’t stress. Hackers aren’t going to waste zero-days on small fish.
  15. Just make sure to budget in your time and ongoing support because even though it’s solid… nothing’s perfect!
  16. Ubiquiti UniFi protect? cloud key+ - 199 (comes with 1tb hdd) Lite 16 POE switch - 199 6x G5 flex - 744 So around 1150 for the gear, leaves you plenty for cat6 cable and other miscellaneous items and they’re good to go.
  17. If your PC has Thunderbolt 3/4 ports, you could try it with this adapter, and it might work for that Apple Thunderbolt Display (it would on a newer Mac): https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MMEL2AM/A/thunderbolt-3-usb-c-to-thunderbolt-2-adapter Outside of that… you’re shit outta luck.
  18. https://www.androidtv-guide.com/streaming-gaming/av1-androidtv-players/‘ Seems like the onn might be the way to go.
  19. What’s it primarily used for? I.e. movies, gaming, tv, sports Is it in a light controlled (dark) space, or a pretty bright space? What devices do you plan on connecting it to?
  20. Sure. It came with a 30w charger in the box. With USB-PD it truly doesn't matter if the wattage of the adapter is higher than the device will take - the device will pull exactly how much it wants.
  21. have you done some googling on this? very brief research tells me to play around with refresh rates and different hdmi cables, as nvidia surround is pretty sensitive to display sync issues. Try dropping/matching refresh rate - you may have to settle for 60 or 120hz across the setup.
  22. According to one of the only review sites you really need to pay attention to, rtings.com, the Hisense U6 (55" on sale at BB for 399) and U7 (55" at BB for 599) are the best budget and lower mid-range TVs you can buy. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/tvs-on-the-market
  23. Your boss is either going to have this discussion with your IT people or seriously bump up your budget, because non-smart TVs only exist as those expensive displays.
  24. So it’s one of those Sony blu-ray/receiver combos, interesting. While they’re using what I assume are proprietary connectors, each speaker just looks like a pair of wires. I don’t see why you couldn’t get any receiver, trim off the ends of those speaker wires, and use the existing cabling to connect them.
  25. I mean, you linked to the rtings review. By their testing, it’s the best tv at its price point.
