  1. Well after the help I have gotten here and elsewhere I have decided to go with a router that can run opensnse or pfsense now i just need to choose a router any suggestions??
  2. see and thats where i kinda need help we currently have a tplink ax11000. i have no clue but i am pretty sure if it does its not great what would you recommend? for context the servers we are running are a Dell R620 and a R730
  3. Hi guys! I was wondering if there was a practical way of running a server off of my home network, while isolating any personal pc's from the network it self. (while still having access to the internet of course) The reason for this question is I have a couple home dedicated boxes, that a few friends helped pool money together to host private game servers (ARK/FiveM/Atlas/Minecraft/etc.), that have recently became targets to ransom-ware attack. Before someone judges us, we were unaware of how to prevent any of this from happening, all my admins use the same account to access the server. This was due to if we got multiple logins it would cost extra (per login and they were only temporary!) We are not sure how they got in to ransom-ware the servers in the first place, but we definitely want to secure my personal devices from any future attacks. Long story short, we just want to know if it is feasible to have 2 isolated networks on one setup. 1 for the game servers and their traffic, and one for the personal devices of my house. All we know is what us as a group has learned on our own, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
  4. thank you very much i figured there was no max SAS SSD size and was just what was offered at the time now all i need to do is figure out what the best raid config is with 8 drives .... keep in mind that this is a game server and needs so maybe raid 0 on 3 and 3 and the stripe(clone) from 3 to 3 and leave 2 for system so i think thats raid 0,1? god i suck at this lolz
  5. well here goes another possible dumb question dell r620 tech manual says that there are only 2 different sizes of SAS SSD drives to choose from and i was wondering is that true and i only stuck using the 2 sizes listed or can i use any size SAS SSD??? the sizes listed are SAS SSD 200GB, 400GB and thats from this tech guide http://i.dell.com/sites/content/shared-content/data-sheets/en/documents/dell-poweredge-r620-technical-guide.pdf i guess what i am asking is can i use any size SAS SSD on my PERC H710P raid controller or does it matter
  6. ok i know it took me forever to respond to your answers ..... so not to sound rude but i have no idea what ya said lolz i am self taught and i don't know all the lingo so ya may have to dumb it down for me lolz i will start with a GUI would be very helpfull i have found lots of what seem to be good switches but i have no clue which managed switches are best so is there a few model numbers you wouldn't mind pointing out
  7. ok here's my question I am a small time streamer and game junkie that over time has built a loyal community and over time I have added a Dell r620 1u rack server to my home network to host 8+ game servers from and I think I have finally killed or am killing my poor asus rt n66u router and I am wondering what would be the best solution for me I need at least 10 ports (w/ dual wan plugs?) I have a arris sb8200 modem with dual ports for link aggregation? I know I may be asking a lot of dumb questions but I am trying to do the best for my community and would love some help with this I appreciate all the help I can get thank
