I would gladly go backwards in tech if it meant doing it again without the suicide nets around the iphone factory. Oh and we had smart phones in the 90s. They were called PDAs. I'm still rocking my 80's smart watch

The Ryzen 3600 and RTX 2060 would be much better for gaming (though to be fair at 1080P 1660S is alright too). The difference between a GTX 1660S and a RTX 2060 is pretty significant and a better CPU isn't going to make up for that difference.

na it takes years to commission and build a new warship. It takes years to lobby government to upgrade electronics. I remember there was a UK navy ship that was launched the year XP lost consumer support and was commissioned on XP based systems. I worked for a company that had some insight into software usage. One of our customers (non-government) had something like 40 ships all running small business server after this product was discontinued. Were talking a server 2003 running in 2014. Sometimes you can't just upgrade things. We also saw engineering firms with hardware worth millions running on windows NT/98/XP over a decade on with no plans to change the hardware because these automated machines were the lifeblood of their business.

I wish i hadn't given away my minix book. The intro has a great explanation of what an operating system is, like an abstraction layer, an API that removes the programmer from being bothered by differences in hardware. It's really a failure of Microsoft that industrial and military machines can't work with their latest secure OS. I'm still running my android music player that I made for Android 2.3

i find these deals are retailers clearing ageing stock to make room for an upcoming seasonal sale. We just had one 6 weeks before christmas and there will be another one on boxing day. Apple being a manufacturer doesnt have the same stock management problem.

click the "shop for university" link on apple's website. That will take the price down a bit. You need more than 250GB. I had a macbook air back in 2016 and I filled 256GB up very fast.

my grandfather ran his engineering business for 69 years. He taught me a simple formula. For the money coming in, 1/3rd goes to staff including your own salary, 1/3rd goes to various taxes, 1/3rd must be re-invested back into the business. I have seen how Linus wretches when discussing video budgets I am sure a successful man will have a formulated fiscal structure like this. BTW I have seen employers not invest and treat their business like a personal cash account and those are really bad people to work for.

What difference does it make ultimately? If Linus makes good living out of his business and his employees earn good money and also live good and it's all set to be sustainable long term, that's all I need to know about it.
