good value. Probably my pick for gaming pc. Its qlc, but that shouldn't matter much.

For low load, it won't really be a issue, and gaming doesn't need too much io normally.

    No.
Does your computer have an M.2 slot?

At those prices the Crucial P1 is probably the best value even though it's slower than all other nvme drives on the list (it's about on par with the MX500). For games it won't matter all that much anyway.

Hey there. I ran "SteelSeries" and "62343" (Product Number) through Google, turned up some hits for the SteelSeries Rival 95 Bang. Interestingly, both Newegg and Amazon label the Rival 95 Bang as "Non LED Ver. of Rival 100" (Newegg Link, Amazon Link). Could be what you're searching for, perhaps?

    Image:
My guess is SteelSeries used the existing Rival 100 name to label their current (updated/refreshed?) product, and re-branded the old Rival 100 as the Rival 95 Bang. The Rival 95 Bang is an old model as well, and I'm not sure if it's still in production anymore.

MKSanic reacted to D13H4RD in how much does overclocking help?
For CPUs, it depends on the platform.

On AMD Ryzen, manual overclocking is largely pointless. There is a performance boost sure but it's largely confined to single digit gains and mostly in benchmarks. You're better off switching on Precision Boost Overdrive if you want that little extra, and even then, the boost is quite minimal. You actually get a more significant boost with faster IF clocks (also as a result of fast memory) with tuned timings.

On Intel, because they have a large headroom for overclocking at the expense of thermals and power budget, assuming you've got the cooler to handle it, you can actually push it quite far whilst maintaining stability.

For GPUs, I can't really comment on Radeon but I have not really found a point to overclocking on an NVIDIA GPU as of late, mostly because GPU Boost has largely taken care of that.

It depends on a ton of factors: the silicone lottery, quality of board and VRMs, etc. However, currently it's probably not going to do much for you. AMD’s Zen2 doesn't have much OC overhead. You might eek out an extra 100-150MHz, but that's about it. It also generally works against you, somewhat, at least with things that still depend on single core performance like gaming. For example, you could probably all-core OC a 3700x to 4.2-4.3, but a single core may boost on it's own to 4.4 or 4.5. By all-core overclocking, you're actually worsening your single core performance. On the Intel side, the 10th gen 14++++++++++++++++ (is that enough pluses?) are so micro-optimized already, you also don't get much from OC any more.

As far as the graphics card goes, you *may* get something there. Some of the higher end cards still seem to OC really well. In the mid-range, though, they've pretty much all been artificially hobbled with power limits and such to keep them from getting too close to their more expensive siblings. The 5600 XT and 2060 KO for example neither will OC at all - maybe 30-50MHz max.

The simple fact is that the heady days of glorious OCs are probably behind us. CPUs and GPUs to a lesser extent are all so highly optimized and effectively do their own overclocking, smartly, based on conditions. It's almost better to just let them do their thing, and not worry about it. You may be able to do better manually, but it's going to likely require significant time and effort that probably won't be worth more than bragging rights.

MKSanic reacted to Dr0y in What are your experiences with outemu browns?
I've never tried outemu browns but I've tried cherry mx browns, kailh browns and kailh speed copper which I'm using right now.   The thing is that the outemu switches I tried had a really bad case of spring ping that was more annoying that the click of the switch (they were blue switches) and the clack of the bottoming out or topping up of the switch.  Sadly when you want the best silent keyboard you can it can get expensive really fast.  If the "I'm typing" noise don't bother you well I would just give them a try.  Which keyboard did you have in mind with outemu browns ?

Here is a short "review" of the brown switches I tried.  Hope it will help you a bit.

    First the noise ...

since they're all non clicky switches well they don't click per say, like blue and some other does, but there's some noise coming from bottoming out and also from the switch coming back up.  To dampen the bottoming noise you can always use o-ring but you'll still have some noise when the switch comes up ... The best way to minimize those noise is to get silent switches.  Kailh released a silent box brown that has dampers inside the switch to make it silent like cherry silent red has.  Sadly getting a keyboard with those switches or a barebone is not that cheap ...

You can also get ping noise from the spring ... something I only experienced from my outemu blue (the only outemu I tried) ... the ping noise was even more annoying than the click of the switch.  You can try to get rid of it with lube but the outemu blue were so tight that I was afraid to break them while opening them so I just gave up that idea.

    Second the feel ...

cherry brown : almost feels linear, you have to search for the tactile bump by pressing the key really slowly and even then you might not find it ... at least on the keyboard I had which was razer blackwidow stealth 2013
kailh brown : nice tactile bump, not too sharp but still can feel it a bit when typing.  You have a bit of travel before the bump and the actuation.  Tried those on my gf's rosewill keyboard.
kailh speed copper : sharp tactile bump and you can really notice it with every key you press.  The bump is right at the beginning when you press the switch and you kind of have to overcome it to press the key. It's sharp and really not mushy but I would qualify it as rubber dome like as on the rubber dome over membrane keyboard I've tried you had a resistance right on the top of the key and had to overcome it to press the key.  That's the only place where it can remotely resemble a rubber dome, the really high tactile point.   Also since the switch is "speed" the actuation point is higher and the total travel is shorter than non "speed" switches.  Typing on them feels great and it's my favorite tactile switch so far.

So as you can see even if those are tactile switches the feeling can be quite different.  As I said I haven't tried outemu brown, just had some outemu blue so far, so I can't talk about outemu browns.  Hope that helps and also sorry for going from there to here with so much detour, it's just that I really like typing on those and I can't seems to get enough of it.

If you have a Lowe's nearby I would suggest this as an alternative. It also has a lifetime warranty.

    Step 1: Get very confused.
Step 2: Attempt to sell computer.
Step 3: Not get taken seriously. Would you believe anyone who claimed to have a future computer the size of a TV that's 50x faster than the world's fastest supercomputer? No. No you wouldn't.
Step 4: The instant someone realizes that this isn't fake and I'm just some dude, get immediately assasinated/have the computer stolen/confiscated by the government.
Step 5: Either dead or destitute in the 70's.

My understanding is it’s not a production issue so much as a supply chain issue, so high value small light things are easier to get than large or heavy things of low value.  There isn’t as much airline traffic so things move more slowly, and while the amount of ships hasn’t increased the demand on them has.

MKSanic reacted to DailyProcrastinator in What has gone up in price?
Here in Canada, PSU's, memory, and any nand based flash (NVME and sata SSD's), these have gone up the most in price.

Otherwise I have noticed that stock on monitors, certain laptops, cases, and CPU coolers has severely diminished. 10th gen Intel CPU and motherboards are next to impossible to find as well.

Also I see a lot of tech Youtubers knocking on the B550 launch because of basically no stock, and in my mind I am thinking, yeah no sh!t COVID is still a thing, getting current products back on the shelf is hard enough never mind new product. To my surprise none of them really seem to focus on this, they just bag on the whole launch experience as being "bad" (not going to touch on why B550 does not make a whole lot of sense because of pricing), because there are no boards to buy. I would not be surprised if the same thing happens with GPU's soon. As Nvidia stops manufacturing RTX 20xx series in order for next gen launch, my best guess is that there will be a sever lack of GPU stock which will be exacerbated by everyone panic buying the remaining stock (just my prediction). And I've seen way to mayn people say that current gen RTX cards will go on sale prior to next gen launch, which if we want to go on historical data, is not really ever a thing. Nvidia has pretty well never slashed prices on any of theri product in the last 5 years so IDK why people keep saying that.

Another product that is next to impossible to find and has double to tripled in price is web cams. Everyone and their dog now needs one as we are all stuck at home, and web cams were never a high demand product and so stock immediately diminished and the manufactures cannot keep up with the instant demand.

immediately try and find a way back, i wouldn't want to live in the 70s regardless if i still had my computer i also dont think the power would be "clean" enough to not just immediately blow the powersupply making it effectively useless anyway.

i dont think anyone would even be able to analyse it at all with the technology of the time. the smallest architecture they got to in the 70s was 3µm which is 3000nm. current PCs we're talking 7-14nm. even if they were able to analyse it down to that scale, they wouldn't be able to build fabs to recreate it. The rest of the tech needs to be made before they can recreate a modern computer, of which a modern computer wouldn't be able to help them create the rest of the tech needed to make it

Well, next step would be to connect your laptop directly to the modem, skipping the router, and seeing if you are getting faster speeds. If you are, then it's something wrong with the router's configuration and, if you aren't, it's most likely the modem or the ISP-facing connection itself.

Just make sure you have firewall up and running on your laptop before connecting directly to the Internet and do not click "This is a private network" when Windows asks -- Internet is a public network.
