  1. That may be it, I think mine was a B2 revision, although I'm not 100% sure cuz I don't have it anymore.
  2. Welp that was infurating... a full reflash of my bios and suddenly my AX200 wireless card works.... I don't have the I225-V anymore so I can't try that, but I guess my bios was slightly faulty somehow on the previous install.
  3. Yeah I've seen that as well, it surprisingly picked up instantly in linux, but not windows. I ended up sending the I225-V back. I'm still having the same problem with the wireless card AX-200 but no luck on that front either. My bios is up to date and I tried the bios reset but no luck either.
  4. Hi All, So I recently bought a 2.5 GB PCIE NIC for my desktop (the reason being I wanted a 2.5gb direct connection to my NAS without a switch) running windows 10. However, the NIC is not detected in device manager at all, nor by intel's driver installers. I cannot install any drivers because the card is not detected by my PC. I know the slots work because I have used other cards in my PCIe slots, and I know the card is at least detected in linux, because both cards (I bought two NICs) work in my NAS running OMV (debian based). I do know that my PC does have some sort of networking issue though because I also bought a WIFI/Bluetooth card for it and the bluetooth works but the wifi does not - I haven't cared a whole ton because I only needed the bluetooth, but now it is relevent as only my onboard ethernet works. My windows desktop machine: R7 5800X Gigabyte B550 Gaming X (has gigabit LAN that works fine) G Skill Ripjaws DDR4 16 GB 3200 MHZ EVGA 3060 TI WD Black SN750 SE Fenvi AX 3000 Wifi/Bluetooth Card (Intel AX200 based): https://www.newegg.com/fenvi-fv-ax3000-pci-express/p/0XM-00JK-00075 2.5GB NIC (Intel I225-V based) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09DKZBWVS?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I have tried different slots for all of the cards, I have power cycled, unplugged, replugged, did a fresh windows 10 install, rain danced, nothing - neither the wifi nor the 2.5gb nic are detected by device manager (bluetooth is perfectly fine) My NAS: Dell Optiplex 390 Intel i3-2120 2.5 GB NIC same as above onboard lan is a realtek 8111E Does anyone have any ideas? I'm so lost.
  5. Thanks, that's exactly what I was thinking was the power usage. I don't know what the total draw of my optiplex is, but I know that old i3-2120 is at 65W TDP and that both of the xeon 2420's in that thing are 80W's each, so I'm not exactly too keen to pay higher running costs. I don't have a particular reason for upgrading other than wanting a less janky way of holding all my drives (I have them jerry rigged to a drive rack that I made), and the fact that that thing is a steal, but yeah, all the things you said.
  6. Hello all, I wanted to know what people's opinions on old servers are. I built a NAS from an old Dell Optiplex 390 that I got for free from work - it sucks but it works just fine for a NAS. I stumbled upon a used HPE DL380E G8 on OfferUp for $100 USD and I was wondering what your opinions on it are. I know that they are generally good deals, but since I am not nearly as familiar with server hardware as I am with desktop hardware, my question is how hard would it be to replace something vs a standard desktop pc, if something died given that this is by a nature, an old server and would this be worth it? At least with the optiplex, I understand the standard parts to a desktop, so I can go find off the shelf components pretty easily to replace it with. I'm just a bit hesitant to get a server because I am not familiar at all with server hardware. (Yes, I know that my optiplex is an oem machine so it would probably be a pain to get replacement parts for if something died and, I'd probably just replace the whole thing, but that's besides the point). About the actual hardware in question, I went to look at it yesterday, it's really old and dusty as expected. He was missing the power cables so I couldn't see it turn on (I have extra 3 pin power cables so the cables don't concern me, but not seeing it work does), but he says it turns on and there's fan spin (he knows nothing about PC's so I'm taking it with a large mountain of salt). I'm still trying to work out what exactly the specs are but so far I have figured out it has: Dual Intel E5-2420 V2's 32 GB of SK Hynix ECC DDR3 1600 Mhz ram 2x 750W 94% efficiency Platinum PSU's 12 bay LFF model, and some old drives (2x 100gb intel SSD's, 4x 3TB 7200 RPM HDD's) I can't tell what exactly is in the PCI-e slot but I'm pretty sure it's not a GPU. Do you think this is worth the $100 USD?
  7. Interesting, I've never liked using google drive or google photos, I also prefer to use an SMB share to transfer files on my personal PC - just can't on my work PC due to them locking down the network.
  8. Gotcha, I've never preferred a hardware connection for workflow purposes, but I'll keep that solution in mind - thanks!
  9. Oh my god I didn't know about snapdrop, that's amazing thank you! Now mainly as a curiosity, how does the majority of the android community solve this problem, hardware? 3rd party software apps? Homebrew? Just wanted to know cuz it felt like I was banging my head against the wall when asking google.
  10. I don't actually happen to have one of those. Is a hardware connection (cable/usb/sd card) your main method of file transfer?
  11. I've tried that, but with the amount of photos that I take for my daily surveys (~50 most days) email just isn't really feasible.
  12. Hi all, First off sorry if this is the wrong place - wasn't sure if this was supposed to be phones or apps. My question is fairly simple - how on earth do you wirelessly (and seamlessly) transfer files between PC and android? In my case I have a samsung s9 and I have to take pictures when I am out surveying at work and then bring them back to the computer to write my report. I for the life of me can not get the stupid photos over to my work computer without a cable (and I just broke my last other cable that's not my bedside charging cable). I know that there are plenty of 3rd party apps out there that can do it (not as seamlessly as I would like but they work) but my problem is, is that I need to transfer them to my work laptop and that computer is locked down and the network settings are locked down (I have a NAS that I built that I normally use to transfer between my phone and personal computer but can't do that here) and I can not install any other software without admin credentials which I don't have (and my company IT guy isn't willing to do due to company policy, etc. etc.). Is there any native way to do so? I have tried bluetooth and for some reason it will not connect on the phone end and when I try the link to windows/phone app on the PC, after I scan the QR code it just sits there and doesn't do anything - both on my work and personal PC's. Has anyone found a way? I am SO FRUSTRATED. Thanks
  13. I honestly don't care too much about a bezel-less display, I mainly just hate the stupid notch, so a standard upper bezel with a display is fine with me. I REALLY want to wait out the chaff for true notchless but my phone has hit the end of it's life and I need a new one now. As much as I like the 9T and others, I haven't seen one through standard merchants in the US (granted I only recently started searching these up). I've heard great things about the A80 but I haven't been able to find one in the US for non-stupid prices. I am though starting to get tempted by a Note 9, but wanted to see if there were any other options.
  14. Hi All, I currently have a refurbed Samsung S7 Edge that is just barely holding it together (Google Maps is practically unusable because of how hard it chugs). I'm looking for an upgrade for around $400 USD and would ideally like it to have a headphone jack and NO notch/holepunch display (expandable storage would be nice too, but I'm willing to go without it if I have to). A lot of the recommendations I've seen for this price bracket are either the Pixel 4a or the Samsung S9/Note 9 (which is on my radar because Linus still uses it), but I'm a little wary of the holepunch display for the 4a and that the S9/Note 9 will reach the end of it's service life in a 1-2 years of using it (I'm also a student so constantly replacing phones isn't exactly feasible for me right now). Does anyone have any recommendations? If it matters I live in the US. Thanks in advance!
  15. Hi all, Sorry not sure where this goes, but if it's wrong mods please move I recently got a new mechanical keyboard (Aukey km-g12) and I actually like it alot but I want to move some keys around. Specifically I want to move the Fn, control and right click keys around. Is there a way I can remap the keys on this while also keeping the keyboard on my laptop the way it is? Also if anyone knows for both windows and linux (specifically mint) that would be great because i use both. Thanks!
