When I repasted mine, it made no noticeable difference. You can try your luck if you want. Mine is an early blower style card.

My situation is that I have an abundance of solar power (Not charging my car anymore since I don't go anywhere) and where I live it's better to use it, than sending it to the grid.
So I wanted to use some of the power to run a mining rig. I only have 1 available slot on my mining computer.

I'm willing to invest 500-750 bucks.
I'm thinking 2070 Super.  Not too expensive, new enough that I can sell it in a few years.
From my research it would make me around 50 ravencoin per day at current difficulty.

I spent a lot of time on different calculators and it is making my head spin a little bit.  I'm not willing to invest in a whole 6 GPU rig, right now.

Is my plan good or bad? Other options?

(This will also be used when I participate in different folding events for TeamLTT)

500w is definitely enough, the unit is just bad quality. Don't use power supply calculators, the overestimate the wattages needed.

Bad quality PSU. Get a CX/System Power 9, or you could get a TXM for better efficiency.

Hi. I did something simple. I replaced the stock fan with new one from Aliexpress. There are "buzzing" fans and "silent" ones. It's hit or miss situation, so i tried 3 different models. Now I have much more quiet vega 56 blower style card. This model did work for me https://pl.aliexpress.com/item/32831903604.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.40d05c0fEyQB3I. It's a little less tall than the original fan, but it seems to keep stock air flow parameters.

It's running Folding@Home 24/7 and the noise is much more acceptable.

EDIT: I cannot give You guys any guarantee of spectacular success. The trick did work for me and for my gaming and computing preferences. I did not perform any complex tests of this solution yet,  just daily workloads. And of course if You break Your GPU during disassembly process - don't look at me
