  1. This was really helpful!! Oh and I knew the case sucked, when I got it had horrible ventilation. I actually modded it and cut out an air intake on the bottom of the front plate for a 140 mm fan and attached some mesh for dust protection.
  2. Thanks everyone for these recommendations especially @8tg, @PDifolco, and @IkeaGnome. I got lots to get started with plan that long awaited drive down to micro center!
  3. Hey y'all Been a longtime lurker on the forums, but I think it's finally time I participate a bit and start by asking for some recommendations on a PC upgrade. Below I have the build I bought from a friend in 2018 that I have been running ever since then. I finished grad school last year and as I am no longer struggling to afford basic living expenses anymore and have stable employment I think I want to upgrade to something that will last another 3 or 4 years before another serious upgrade. Here is my current build: PCPartPicker Part List CPU: Intel Core i5-7600K 3.8 GHz Quad-Core Processor (Purchased For $50.00) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S 55 CFM CPU Cooler (Purchased For $50.00) Motherboard: Asus PRIME H270M-PLUS Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (Purchased For $50.00) Memory: Mushkin Silverline 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2133 CL15 Memory (Purchased For $50.00) Storage: PNY CS1311 240 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Purchased For $50.00) Storage: Western Digital Blue 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Purchased For $109.99) Video Card: EVGA SC GAMING GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6 GB Video Card (Purchased For $50.00) Case: Corsair Carbide Series 100R ATX Mid Tower Case (Purchased For $50.00) Power Supply: Corsair TX550M Gold 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $50.00) Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link Archer T4E 802.11a/b/g/n/ac PCIe x1 Wi-Fi Adapter (Purchased For $25.00) Monitor: Sceptre E248W-19203S 23.8" 1920 x 1080 75 Hz Monitor (Purchased For $90.00) Keyboard: Logitech G413 Carbon Wired Gaming Keyboard (Purchased For $58.49) Mouse: Logitech G402 Wired Optical Mouse (Purchased For $21.99) Total: $705.47 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2024-02-11 11:14 EST-0500 Budget (including currency): USD 1000 Country: USA, within driving distance of a micro center. Games / Workload: Games like Baldur's Gate, cities skylines, and the occasional Destiny 2 session. Never playing at more than 1080p resolution. Monitors: I have a 144hz 1080p monitor and a second 75hz 1080p monitor. Peripherals: Interested in upgrading my keyboard since it is kind of dying and random keys refuse to work at random times. Looking for something mechanical. Why are you upgrading? I want to upgrade just to play modern games at decent frame rates at higher graphics settings. Additionally, some of the computational work I do is struggling on the 7th Gen Intel CPU I am using now. Edit: Thanks in advance!!
  4. I am considering the same system, did you end up getting it? If you did how's the performance and do you like it overall? If not, what did you end up getting instead?
  5. I just installed but my client won't start up. I tried rebooting, installing as admin, using revouninstaller to delete registry files, and reinstalling again. Still nothing, I am going to paste the log file and hope anyone can help. All the webcontrol does not detect my install and the local control just stays in connecting / inactive. Thanks in advance. *********************** Log Started 2020-03-19T12:17:11Z *********************** 12:17:11:************************* Folding@home Client ************************* 12:17:11: Website: https://foldingathome.org/ 12:17:11: Copyright: (c) 2009-2018 foldingathome.org 12:17:11: Author: Joseph Coffland <joseph@cauldrondevelopment.com> 12:17:11: Args: --open-web-control 12:17:11: Config: <none> 12:17:11:******************************** Build ******************************** 12:17:11: Version: 7.5.1 12:17:11: Date: May 11 2018 12:17:11: Time: 13:06:32 12:17:11: Repository: Git 12:17:11: Revision: 4705bf53c635f88b8fe85af7675557e15d491ff0 12:17:11: Branch: master 12:17:11: Compiler: Visual C++ 2008 12:17:11: Options: /TP /nologo /EHa /wd4297 /wd4103 /Ox /MT 12:17:11: Platform: win32 10 12:17:11: Bits: 32 12:17:11: Mode: Release 12:17:11:******************************* System ******************************** 12:17:11: CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7600K CPU @ 3.80GHz 12:17:11: CPU ID: GenuineIntel Family 6 Model 158 Stepping 9 12:17:11: CPUs: 4 12:17:11: Memory: 15.95GiB 12:17:11: Free Memory: 10.89GiB 12:17:11: Threads: WINDOWS_THREADS 12:17:11: OS Version: 6.2 12:17:11: Has Battery: false 12:17:11: On Battery: false 12:17:11: UTC Offset: -4 12:17:11: PID: 11812 12:17:11: CWD: C:\Users\Cristian\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient 12:17:11: OS: Windows 10 Enterprise 12:17:11: OS Arch: AMD64 12:17:11: GPUs: 1 12:17:11: GPU 0: Bus:1 Slot:0 Func:0 NVIDIA:7 GP106 [GeForce GTX 1060 6GB] 4372 12:17:11:CUDA Device 0: Platform:0 Device:0 Bus:1 Slot:0 Compute:6.1 Driver:10.1 12:17:11: OpenCL: Not detected 12:17:11:Win32 Service: false 12:17:11:*********************************************************************** 12:17:11:<config> 12:17:11: <!-- Folding Slots --> 12:17:11:</config> 12:17:11:Trying to access database... 12:17:11:Successfully acquired database lock 12:17:11:Enabled folding slot 00: PAUSED cpu:2 (not configured)
