I'm not familiar with UK retailers, so I would recommend searching on your local retailer's website unless there's one you can provide.

A surge protector could 'protect the PC and monitors', a UPS is designed to handle intermittent losses in power that aren't for extended periods and provide safe shutdown for computers that NEED it to not corrupt/lose data like servers. If your intent isn't to allow for 1-2 second or so losses in power that may occur due to electrical issues, then I'd just get a surge protector.

I personally think a UPS is a wonderful addition to any gaming PC, one large enough to handle the whole setup, but worst case, at least keeps the computer from losing power. A 2080ti and 9900k isn't a low end system from a power draw perspective, so you'd want at minimum a 650VA being ~500W unit.

If the UPS's capacity is insufficient for the load, it'll scream at you, since the inverter in the unit is only designed for a certain amount of output. That's where its beneficial to overbuy on the unit, especially since paying more almost always comes with more features like USB ports, displays, standardized batteries, etc. Usually those features get added at the 1000VA tier and higher.

I mostly buy APC UPS's but there's several different models I've bought over the years. I have a few dozen I manage as well, some being very important because of electrical issues at work with some heavy machinery that causes critical machines to lose power whenever it starts.

Nope, you're not crazy. This is a common issue with upgrading RAM later by trying to add more sticks to existing ones. Manufacturers often change out the dies and such on RAM, so even if it's the "same", there may still be differences later.

The best thing to do is to just buy an entirely new kit in the capacity you need now, and then flip the old ones on the used market. It's exceedingly difficult to get a matching kit later that will just drop in and work, no issue.

If you're dead set on adding this additional RAM, first make sure that each kit is in its own channel. This will reduce the potential for issues. You hopefully had the previous kit split into each channel, so you'll want to move one of the original sticks. You may need to manually tweak the clockspeed, timings, and voltages, and you still may not be able to run at the full rated speed of either kit. If you don't feel up to that task, then you should return the new kit, and replace your existing with a larger capacity.
