  1. I don't trust my 2am brain - are you suggesting I stop the PSU fan temporarily to find the sound? Yeah, I've had no issues with the PSU for the 10 years I've owned it, and it's a much higher capacity than I'll ever need, so I was hoping I wouldn't need to replace it just cause it's old.
  2. This evening out of nowhere, I heard a strange sound coming from my comp. Know how a really quiet microwave sounds when it ramps up? It's like that hum, on and off, repeatedly and consistently. Leaned down, saw one of my fans weren't spinning (though my comp was doing very little so nothing was warm) so I started changing my fan speeds within MSI Command Centre to see if I could isolate the sound to one of the fans. All the fans started spinning appropriately, but the sound continued. Couldn't feel a vibration anywhere. Started sticking my head in different areas to see where it was loudest, and it's loudest towards the rear of the case, where there's 1 fan and the PSU. Not to narrow things down on no knowledge, but it's an old PSU, and I have a baseless fear of something zapping violently and destructively if that is the case. First question - safe to operate till I know what's up? Secondly, wtf? PSU: https://www.hardwaresecrets.com/ocz-gamexstream-700-w-power-supply/ Mobo: MSI X370 GPU: GTX1050ti CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 6 brand new fans in a neatly wired Fractal Meshify C case, a sound card, USB 3.0 expansion card, and played some Beat Saber earlier today with temps below 60c. When the sound started, I was sitting on discord, watching friends' streams.
  3. In other news, it'd sure be nice to get the points from a finished WU trying to send to a gibbled server <_< WU 11751, Work Server 140.163.4.231
  4. Apologies for not noticing the reply! Go read the first post here for all the details
  5. Sheesh, my comp is chewing away with vigor! Requested my 1mil badge last night, went to bed, wake up, 1.1mil... WOO!!
  6. So.. I've got a new concern. I hit a BSOD this morning. My system is as stock as stock gets, I've installed fans lately, but that's about it. Temps don't go over 65c. WhoCrashed: F@H since reboot: 700W PSU, GTX 1050ti, Ryzen 5 2600 6 core (and limiting F@H to 4 core). CPU is running WU 13851, GPU running WU 11779. Any thoughts?
  7. I wish I could take advantage of that win, but my apartment doesn't charge heat, and doesn't quite heat well enough in the first place, so no cost savings, but I've definitely been enjoying the increase in heat in my livingroom hahah!
  8. Would you doublecheck if I understand this right? Assuming for whatever reason, (0.500kW * 24 hrs) * 0.087 (power bill says 8.72c /kWh) = $1.05 per 24hrs running my comp, at highest worst case scenario?
  9. That's doable. I'm not sure how to find out how much power my computer uses in a day though.
  10. Not going to lie, I'm a little worried about what my power bill might actually turn into. Can any Albertans/Canadians speak to their estimated cost differences?
  11. Finally picked up a CPU WU a little bit ago. Didn't notice until I leaned over to fiddle with cords and noticed my space heater was heating again
  12. Haven't gotten a CPU WU in a while, might have to turn up my thermostat till my RyzenSpaceHeater kicks in again . Seriously, it's getting chilly in here again.
  13. Loool, tfw I forgot the event didn't officially start till today. Welp, guess I'm getting that 1mil badge sooner than later! Already at 600k and 33WU in a week-ish.
  14. You've been a Gigantic help, thank you so much . I'll stick it all back together, get back to Folding@Home, and arrange to pick up the controller in the near future.
