  1. This has just got stranger. Enter the third product key! This time OEM_DM note I hadn’t turned on the pc in months since I got an Alienware Aurora. Hence it wasn’t updated sooner bios (supposedly) OEM key is let’s say 12345 67890 98765 43210 as revealed by slmgr.vbs -dlv Retail key is 56789 01234 56789 01234 I’ve already mentioned the 7 pro downgrade key kept activating. now windows updates it to the latest version of Windows 10. I check and it’s still retail but I try it one more time and it works. Showing up as OEM_DM but with another product key let’s say 98765 43210 12345 67890 yet the same product 12345 key apparently in the bios Retail key gone permanently now so I presume I can reuse this key elsewhere?
  2. The windows 8.1 pro key that’s tied to the motherboard is OEM, whilst configuring the PC on Dell.ie I had to pay extra at the time for a 7 Professional key that’s supposedly a retail key. When I reinstall Windows 10 Pro either legacy or UEFI, it reactivates using the retail key. When I change it to the OEM key, it reverts back to retail instantaneously. I’ve reinstalled 8.1 pro to see would it pick up the OEM key from the motherboard and it’s still using the retail key.
  3. Odd one this. I purchased a Dell XPS 8700 a number of years ago with 8.1 professional & downgrade rights to Windows 7 (which I paid for a Windows 7 key) Windows 10 comes out and I upgraded to 10. Anyway, when I check for the product key in command prompt it gives me the OEM product key that’s tied to the motherboard, but slmgr.vbs -dlv shows that it is a retail licence. Even reinstalling windows 10 gpt and it’s still tying the transferable retail license to the motherboard. Has anyone else ever encountered this before? To add, when I remove the product key in command prompt and enter the OEM key, it reverts back to the retail key automatically.
