New Build or just upgrade graphics card?
BlackCoffee replied to radcom123's topic in New Builds and Planning
If you're really in the market to upgrade currently you would get an overall much better experience if you also upgraded your cpu since thats one of your biggest bottlenecks right now. if you could find a deal on a used ryzen 1st or 2nd gen chip id go with that or you could pickup a R5 3600 and either would be a massive upgrade over your current bulldozer chip. now for gpu you can either wait or go with something like a 2060 ko or 2060 super for 1080p but and even 1440p if youre playing at 60hz. if its higher then the 2070 super would be my pick and is what im using for my single 1440p 144hz monitor and its perfect. -
One rear exhaust fan should be fine for this config as long as you aren't Overclocking or pushing it to hard. I'd prefer to have more but realistically it would be fine. You could try it with just one fan and see how your temps are and if they're high (85 or above) then purchase more if they are.
-
What are your current temps like? are any of your components thermal throttling? I personally use HW info to check temps of my components

So I have one of EK's aluminum custom loop kits and ive run out of their special additive. Has anyone just used plain distilled water without any additives and did you have any issues with it? how long were you able to go without growth, etc?

She's real nice!

It will perform better however the big thing is you would be spending a lot of additional money since you would be selling used and buying new. A rtx 2070s performs about as well as a gtx 1080ti in games and the performance difference for the cost would imo not be a great value. If I were you I'd keep my eye out for a used i7-7700k and maybe wait until rtx 3000 drops to pickup a used rtx 2000 card
-
Why not downgrade the cpu to a 3600/3600x and go with an rtx 2070 super instead? unless youre doing rendering or anything you wont really notice a difference with the 3600 vs 3700 and even for that its pretty good. The only reason i say to sway from amd gpus is that nvidia has a much more stable driver and a better feature set as opposed to the amd cards. it would also be slightly faster.
-
Honestly that depends on what your doing with it? Are you planning on upgrading your monitor? does it perform well now? are you just trying to future proof? Honestly its a pretty comperable setup for 1080p/1440p gaming. If you did want to upgrade you could just go ahead and get a used i7-7700k since you have a overclocking ready motherboard. Then that would give you some cpu headroom for upgrading the gpu if you ever decided to do so.

I know this appears to be an issue but how long is it expected to take? I ran F@H all night and only completed 2 WU's because it stopped running after those. Its been waiting for a download now for over 12 hours even though the status of my components is ready and they are not set to be paused or stoped? Anyone else having a similar problem?

The're both NF-A14 which is claimed to be ideal for radiators and have superior presser compared to the previous version. Ive also tested it with out any panel on the front and had an increase of 2c-5c on the cpu but it was immeasurable on the gpu. with both underload kicking heat into the case the gpu maxes at 65c when oc'd and the cpu at 70 while also oc'd which im fine with.
-
With the CPU and GPU kicking out 400+ watts of heat into the case while Folding at Home im not really sure just the reach fan would be able to keep up.

One of the quietest builds I have finished. SPECS: CPU: Ryzen 7 1700 @3.8 RAM: 32gb lpx @3133 MOBO: Asus Strix x370-f GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2070s @2070 SSD: WD black nvme 250gb & Crucial MX300 1tb PSU: Corsair RM750i Case: Fractal Design Meshify C

Is this 10 Days where it is online or a total of 10 days of time running F@H? New here so not sure what to expect but excited to get going.
