  1. Wow, I honestly didn't know such a thing existed. Nope. I am somewhat OCD so my hands are almost always clean, but over time it gets to where I feel like I need to wash my hands after using the mouse .
  2. I've been using Logitech MX mice for years because for general purpose use they just seem to be one of the better made options out there. Unfortunately, they have continued to use more and more rubber on each model which seems to last about ~2 yrs before it starts to degrade to the point that it's uncomfortable to use and looks like I have filthy hands. Buying a replacement $100 mouse every couple of years isn't my preferred allocation of $$$ and I would like to find a replacement not inclined towards a problem like this without a noticeable impact on day-to-day usability. FWIW I am not a gamer so I don't have any requirements on that front. Any suggestions on a good alternative for general purpose use?
  3. That is an option. I was just curious if there was a way to contain the install to begin with so that I could more cleanly wipe it out when I upgraded.
  4. Yea you understand exactly what I want to do (how it is supposed to work). But apparently Autodesk doesn't want it to be that easy. I just upgraded to 2023 of one program today and uninstalled the 2022 version. Only 4 of the 25 entries belong to that new version...the rest never uninstalled with the previous versions. It's like that with the other Autodesk programs as well...just an ongoing mess.
  5. I run a number of Autodesk products and it just seems like with each update and new version they continue to bloat up my system with more and more remnants of previous versions that never fully uninstall. When you use quite a few apps with the same tendency it just becomes kind of a mess over time. Is there was a way to keep them sandboxed (or similar) so that when a new version came out I could wipe out the old version fully and install the new version each time? I could run them in a VM but given the resource intensive nature of that type of app that doesn't seem like an efficient solution to the problem either. Any suggestions or am I just going to be stuck with the having to periodically do a clean install of the OS?
  6. My brother has a gaming pc that he built before he recently started working a lot more, that just largely idles (800 miles away). I normally work on a laptop, but occasionally do some some Archviz rendering so we had discussed the potential of using his idling PC with a RTX 2080 Super to do some of my rendering. I like the idea of setting up a VM that I could potentially remote into as needed without affecting his usage of the machine. The main questions I have. 1.) Is there a way to use dynamic resource allocation so that my VM was not artificially limited when the PC wasn't being used on his end? 2.) Can it be setup so that my VM is a second class citizen so that when he is using his machine that my VM doesn't get priority resource allocation? 3.) Do I need a different type of VM software for something like this than say VirtualBox? FWIW - I understand the concept of VMs and I have used AWS spot instances for various projects, but I have never had to actually setup shared resource allocation for one.
  7. I am helping a friend (very non-technical) upgrade the monitors at his doctor office and I am running into a bit of an issue settling on the appropriate setup for his private office. He has 2-3 windows open all the time and could benefit from the screen real estate, but the majority of the discussion at 49" is obviously based around gaming. If you were going to use one for productivity would you opt for any particular model or features? It would be connected to one of these ASUS PN50-BBR033MD Black Mini / Booksize Barebone System - Micro Center
  8. I live in an area that according to all the cell phone coverage maps has 100% coverage, but everyone with T-mobile has issues when they come to my house (even outside). After looking at coverage maps from a lot of different places it has me curious if everyone is using the same data and formatting it different and more importantly if there is actually somewhere I can look at an accurate coverage map for the different services. Any suggestions?
  9. I need computer access for lightweight computing in 4-5 areas at home and trying to figure out if there is a better way to go about it than buy a bunch of individual computers for light computing/web browsing. Everything is hardwired with gigabit Ethernet and I was wondering if it is even remotely feasible to consider some type of home server & thin client configuration or if it's just not enough terminals to make it practical?
