CWALD got a reaction from abux in Upgrading to 3080+
If your running Linux then you'll get better bang for your buck with an AMD GPU since a lot of the extra features that RTX offers won't work anyway. You will still want a PSU upgrade though and CPU would depend on what your doing.

CWALD got a reaction from RevGAM in 3 pin fan header into 4 pin hub?
It should be keyed so that it only fits one way. On the 4 pin header you will see a tab that is off center and on the 3pin plug there will be a spot to slide over it.

CWALD got a reaction from GeekyGekko in so what happens if your psu isn't good enough?
running a psu that is not rated for your hardware can cause a number of problems. If it is close then you can get weird unexplainable issues that are impossible to track down. A bigger difference should just cause the PC to shut down whenever it draws to much power. A cheap poorly built PSU will just set your PC on fire. Running it like this for a long time can cause damage to components under certain circumstances.

Not a fan of Apple but you do want something that has a good keyboard and supports Linux well if you want to duel boot or just not use windows. I like ThinkPads but Dell Latitudes aren't bad either. I would also be willing to try a framework. If you have a place near you that has a bunch of laptops on display then I would go try out the keyboards, even if you buy elsewhere it will give you a frame of reference for different lineups

CWALD got a reaction from SorryBella in I need a good monitor arm for two monitors, i need recommendations
What kind of arms are you looking for and what kind of displays are you looking to put on them? the strength and reach requirements for dual 22in Flat screens is a lot different then dual 32in curved. Straight, fixed arms are also a lot cheaper then fully articulating hydraulic arms. Don't just get ones that are overbuilt though because then they may not let a lighter weight display sit properly without shooting up to maximum height.

The i3 performs worse than the 5500 and the 5500 can be had for less than 100 pounds new too. The mobos are normally cheaper too (not by much but every pound counts in a budget build)

And @Cereal_PC Builder @Somerandomtechyboi made the best build but it does have used parts, tho it’s not that bad to but used. @GeorgeMKane has the best new build if you don’t wanna go used

if you get an adapter then it will likely work but proceed at your own risk. I am using a molex to 6pin myself but I also accepted that I was going to die in a blaze long ago. If I'm lucky thoughI might get a blaze of glory 😛

CWALD reacted to Locutus von Borg in i have to pay 74€ extra for what exactly ?
    Hi Adam,
i did read that before i ordered. Had an experience similar to that before, but back then i just didnt knew about it xD
So i wanted to make sure thats not repeating itself. Sadly im bat when it comes to financial. However, in the ordering process you can select and have to, the your country its being delivered to and the taxes change. I then checked if it that could be the taxes and it was possible, at least much more than canadian taxes would be, at least what i had found. maybe that weas wrong.
What completely blew my mind was, that the german customs service not just taxed the products, but also taxed the shipping AND the taxes i already had payed. on one side, that absolutely german, on the other side, its absolutely german. being accurate and all... ok, but doing it strictly by the book makes me so furious and they never contacted me or anything. i didnt even know the package was in germany already.

So yeah, at the end all what happened was not the fault of ltt, but instead of the customs service.

i kinda had good luck, Sam from the support team refunded the (in my eyes) unlawful taxyes, enforced by the german customs service. I also got my stuff and im very happy. have to say, ltt did improved, they now correct errors, which arent even theirs.

Rainforest climate ain't good for PC.. I suspect it's so hot and wet that some small water droplets get in the PC and make shorts circuits...
Try to dry the PC with some air duster or hair dryer before turning it on

What are the environmental ratings for your PSU? (temp and humidity operating limits)

What temp are you experiencing that humidity at? (80% at 50f is a lot different than 80% at 90f)

Are there other things in your humid air (Florida will have salty humid air that causes corrosion)

CWALD got a reaction from Locutus von Borg in i have to pay 74€ extra for what exactly ?
Yea, despite all the hype, I had problems with them a little over a year ago as well. Your best bet is probably to email there support team directly, they were kinda slow back then but did reply. In my case I ultimately had to dispute the charges through my bank to even get a partial refund despite never receiving any product.

Supposedly they have gotten a lot better since then but I now have a personal rule about not shopping on sites that don't have a cancel order button and instead say to contact support. Best of luck.

CWALD got a reaction from Petz in Advice on future 2K build
looks like a solid build, if your looking to save a bit then you could probably get away with fewer cpu cores in something like a 7600x as well as the last gen GPU.

For comparison I am running a 5700x and a rtx2080 at 1440 and am still getting over 100fps for most of my library. The one notable exception is KSP2 which only gets 20fps even at 1080p but it is still in alpha and is getting better with each update. Another thing to note is that I am running all of my games through proton in Linux, so if you plan on running windows then you will probably get better performance in most titles.

CWALD got a reaction from KeaneUli in Need help in getting a new phone!
CPU depends entirely on what you do with your phone, for me it's not really a factor unless I am looking at phones under $200 us. Expandable storage and continued support/updates are both very important to me even though I decided to prioritize a headphone jack and a privacy focused os this time. If you like to run CPU intensive apps then that may be your priority, if you keep a bunch of FLAC files on your phone then expandable storage would be critical. Sorry if this isn't the clear cut answer you were hoping for but the importance you place on different features is entirely up to you.

One reason I was ok with getting a phone that only has a year of updates left is because I am super excited about labs testing reception quality. I live in the boonies and poor reception was one of my biggest complaints about the s21 5G.

Considering that they have released videos that tell you how to block adds using things like a pihole, I think you are in the clear to do what you want. Personally I wont give google my money because it doesn't exclude you from there data collection practices. Instead I use other platforms whenever I can such as nebula and floatplane which happen to support creators that I enjoy. In my opinion you are going above and beyond considering budgetary constraints.
