  1. No they are not 'just for games', those are the framerates while streaming. Intel, if all you are doing is streaming gameplay, is the better CPU today. AMD might be better next week, next month, next year. AMD is better for editing, for rendering and for multitasking. But I have seen no basis for the claim that AMD is better for streaming today. Everyone was posting like it was a performance boost over Intel, "it's better for streaming"...well is it? Where is the evidence that AMD is better than intel for streaming, right now? Bear in mind, I bought a Ryzen 9 - 3900x, I am not an Intel fan boy, but be honest about what it can do well and what Intel does better.
  2. I see a lot of posters saying AMD is better for streaming....based on what? This video seems to suggest otherwise, with benchmarks.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZAqV6yo2vo&t=527s i9-9900k - streaming GTA V - 105 fps i7-9700k - streaming GTA V - 104 fps R9-3900x - streaming GTA V - 93 fps R7-3700x - streaming GTA V - 92 fps Posted before I was finished. Editing is better with AMD, rendering is better, but actually streaming? On what basis is AMD better?
  3. Good video here for Motherboard comparisons, out of my budget so didn't look to see what was best for the money you want to spend. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuyuS04lD4o If you just gaming and streaming, I think 64gb of RAM is a bit overkill. if I had 4k to spend, I think I would buy this: But then, I would do a lot more with it than just gaming. 4. His budget is $5000. If he said his budget was $2000 then you would have a point. We are not their bank manager, if they want to spend a lot on a PC and get the best money can buy, then show them what it is, if they change their mind they can ask again and we can make new suggestions. Also far above is in comparison to the fact that the i9-990k, the 7-3700x and the 3900x are all very similar in games due to the fact that the GPU takes on the majority of the work and the single world thread dictates the small differences that you see, and I accept that it is small, but it is better. Also that benchmark was done at 1080p....really? You running a 2080 ti and a i9-9900k at 1080p are you? You the last standing bastion of spending thousands of pounds on computer equipment so you can run 1080p? Good video here demonstrating the difference between 3900x vs 3700x and against Intel.
  5. This is high end graphics card, best available today, since you are coming from a console and not detailing any other uses I think putting the money into the GPU would serve you best. To be clear, I am not saying that the Zotac card is the best, actually it is the cheapest model from a recognised brand that I could find. However, it is built upon the best available Graphics card design. But you can update us on what you think you might be doing other than gaming, in which case we can update the build suggestion. I took the monitor off as you said that wouldn't come out of the same budget. Seek advice on the monitor, it is an important part of the gaming rig for PCs. You will want 27" 1440p 144hz monitor as a minimum to do this spec justice. 6. He didn't ask for a budget build, and if you are talking about gaming and not a big core CPU for future proofing...why aren't you telling him to go Intel? Intel STILL has the edge in gaming. The i9-9900k is a better CPU for gaming alone than the Ryzen, just Ryzen is better for almost everything else and will only continue to get better. So why go down from a 3950x Ryzen to a 3700x Ryzen on the basis that you don't need a 3950x for gaming....but not tell him to buy Intel? I don't understand that logic at all. You don't need Ryzen at all for gaming, in fact, it is worse than Intel. Besides the 3900x performs better than the 3700x in gaming, and I would therefore assume that the 3950x performs better still though I haven't seen the benchmarking for that. I have seen the 3950x benchmarks in gaming now, it is closer to Intel, but still behind it, and far above the 3700x.

  8. You have two mutually exclusive coolers there, so will have to pick one. You could have the same performance for less actual spend. Cooler could be stepped down to H100i without compromise. RAM could come down to 16gb without it making any difference to gaming. Could get a better PSU though, 550w is a little light, I would want 750w, just for a bit of headroom.
  9. Can we advertise other content creators work here? It isn't me, so hopefully that is ok. Jayztwocents has a video, I have it saved: He takes you through what to do after, and I think he does it well.
  10. In all honesty, *shrug* not sure there is a lot of difference. MSI had some MB issues recently, highlighted by Hardware Unboxed, but aside from that, they are both known brands in the techworld. Neither one stands out to me in anyway at all. I could some it all up with one word: "meh"
  11. Yeah just wondering whether you need to format and initiliase the drive first, but it has been an age since I did it.

  13. Ok my options for the build: Changes: CPU: upgrade to Ryzen 9 MB: Upgrade to x570 (this is the wifi version, no price for non-wifi but usually $40 less RAM: 3600 known brand ram GPU: Gigabyte version of 2080 ti PSU: 750w is sufficient This is currently $15 under budget, but that does include $40 for the non-wifi MB (if you don't need wifi on the MB) which does only leave $55 for a case. 15. I do find it odd that you are spending more on your MB than you are the CPU. My suggested build is a little over what you spent, but it has updated a very old GPU as well as the CPU. I mean, if it comes to it, try selling the 980 ti on Ebay, you might get some dollars for it to recoup to make up the extra this build would cost. Changes: CPU: upgrade to Ryzen 9 - future proofing; MB: A board that does the job; RAM: A known brand at a cheaper price; GPU: 5700xt good balance of performance and cost; CASE: Lian Li Dynamic - great looking case, loads of room for water cooling; PSU: 750w is plenty No additional fans, you can buy them later if necessary. Overall, I would say a big boost to performance for a small additional cost. 16. I did the build below, solid build, under budget, known brands. Changes: 3600 RAM you do not need more than that, from a known brand. 650w PSU from a known brand 500gb NVMe that is enough to get going - adding storage is easy Meshify Case - it is just a nice case good airflow and you are still within budget. 17. I looked really hard for a monitor with 2 display ports....so rare. I have a work laptop into a Dock, then simply move the Thunderbolt connection to my Dell XPS when I want to use my laptop, which switches everything that is plugged into the dock (focusrite, screens, power etc) I also have the K580(?) logitech keyboard and mouse, where you can click a button and they switch from one device to another (can have up to 3 devices connected - 1 by dongle and 2x by bluetooth). Only complaint I have seen is that the light goes off on them, so you don't know which one it is connected to, but since when I switch I entirely switch (end of work day), it isn't a problem. Now I have got a desktop (part build) and realistically, I think I will bluetooth the laptops for the keyboard and dongle the desktop, use the Dock for the Laptops, run the Desktop directly into the screens (unfortunately not by DP as the dock requires them), and fortunately I have a Helix LT so can use that for sound on the desktop running to my studio monitors that have 2 inputs so I can click a button on the remote to switch them over. If I wanted to headphone it, I think I would have to take the headphones out of one device and plug in another...or have two sets of headphones.
  18. Not sure I understand the part picker list... You lowered the build cost by choosing better parts, really good, but didn't really do anything with the extra money? I know he said he was stretching budget and it was $2k, but if you can stretch, worth showing why it is worthwhile. Better CPU and better MB still comes out better than original build price. However, this doesn't really improve gaming, at 1440p. So I created a second list which improves on gaming experience. 19. Well that list I provided, if bought in Germany, which has all those items I listed, is 1051.44 euro, which according to the currency convertor is 2057.87 BGN. As a EU member state, goods and services should flow freely so shouldn't be too much in the way of costs. I got a TV shipped to me from Germany to the UK and it wasn't small, and it cost me £8.61 (20 BGN)...and we aren't even in the EU anymore! lol

  21. If you did, LTT did a video on a program called Parsec, it allows you to use the power of one PC to execute programs on the weaker machine essentially. Linus was editing 4k footage on an ultrabook...that is not something an ultrabook can do. So your second 1080 ti machine, could play games in the highest ultra resolutions on your TV/monitor by utilising the power of the 2080 ti/Ryzen 9 machine, far beyond what it is actually capable of doing alone. It is something I was going to try out, but had a bit of a setback with a water loop lol so just waiting to see if I can salvage the machine at all.
  22. No worries, also, PP is not the best for prices in the UK either. I shopped around and got better deals on I would say about 30% of the components. Some it is good on, some it is not so worth looking around.
  23. Well considering you are buying almost an entire machine, if you updated to the 2080 ti would it not assist your work - I thought that machine learning was something the RTX did? You could keep both machines. I did the same, have an old machine, sentimental it was a present, don't want to get rid of it, but bought a new one because i needed the upgrade and keeping the older one for driving games on the big TV, which are nice to sit on the sofa and play, and as a kinda media centre for movies/tv shows on the TV rather than trying to stream to it. Just a thought you are about an inch away from 2 machines anyway.
  24. I did a part picker, as it is easier to look at. Unless there is a specific reason, not sure why 32gb of RAM anyway? I think 16gb is sufficient for gaming, I know you mention machine learning so perhaps that requires more? I agree that the MB is overkill and unnecessary, there are alternatives at better prices, not knocking the board, just saying it is a lot. £600 on plumbing is a lot but obviously you have chosen that path. The only surprise is that you are spending a LOT of money and running a 1080 ti. While it isn't a bad card, and is still up there, better than AMDs offerings, if you posted saying you were buying a 2080, which the 1080 ti is equivalent to, I would be shaving money off your build trying to get you to the 2080 ti within your budget. It is a lot of money, but frankly, change the motherboard, control the NVMe drive a little, be realistic about the power supply and reconsider your life choices in regards to waterloops and you could easily buy one without spending a penny more.
