Beautifully simple, thank you. I know nothing about storage devices so they scare me a little

Right click on the black unallocated one and format it.

I think the second ssd is just mounted as a folder ( yes, you can do that )

just check the Disk Management and ssd how it’s mounted.

you don't even have to format it if that the case. Just change the mounting to the letter.

I've been using these two drives for a couple years like this, something my dad set up when i bought the pc. It appears that my boot drive is drive C: and my other drive is also drive C: but like added to it. Will assigning my non-boot drive a different letter make it its own lettered drive?

Thought I'd just add (this should be self explanatory), obviously make sure your files are backed up on a USB stick, in the cloud, or both if you really want. Cause once that drive's formatted those files are gone forever. Even just reinstalling windows it's a good idea to do this even if it says it'll keep your files 🙂

If I were you, I'd definitely consider Intel's side of things rn... the 13600K is a great CPU for CPU limited situations but might not be as fast for gaming, it really depends what you'll be using it for. between the x3d and the non x3d, i'd probably pick the x3d as its so much quicker in gaming. if you have an unlimited budget tho, i'd grab something from the 7000 series as that platform will be supported for years now. plus, DDR5 RAM is coming down in price and now new am5 motherboards are being released , am5 is probably the way to go.

and also, i would definitely reconsider your 4070Ti unless youve already bought it. AMDs side seems much better value for now, but it depends if you wanna deal with drivers and other random issues with AMD rather than spend the extra buck on NVIDIA.

X3D has been nothing but a treat since I popped it in, pushes way more frames out of your GPU in many games and even those that it doesn't it still greatly improves the 1%lows, on the work station editing side of things you'll hear alot say bad about it and while other chips with higher clocks and more cores surely will render faster the X3D is certainly no slouch, also it's usually the render times people talk about in those scenarios but fail to mention how smooth and responsive the programs are during the actual editing, and I find the x3D dose a nice job chewing through poorly optimized plugins, it all depends on your needs though, both are excellent chips.
However if you're doing a new build I'd hold off until the new x3D chips get reviews, they could dominate gaming if that's your goal. 5800x3D recommendations are usually for people who already have an AM4 board and would rather max out it's performance effectively looking to skip am5

As a 5800X3D user, its worth it, if you already have an upgradeable AM4 system, but when you build a new system and it fits in your budget, a newer processor might be a better idea. Especially with the 7800X3D on the horizon.

The advantage of a 5800x over something like a 6 core R5 5600x mostly comes down to the higher frequency and larger boost opportunities of an R7. The cores themselves are not measurably faster per clock and most games don't use the extra cores anyway.

With the 5800X3D, AMD added a ton of cache to the CPU, which has a significant and positive effect on gaming performance. Per clock and per core the x3D part is quite a bit faster for workloads thay can use the extra cache, like gaming.

That's why it was a top tier gaming CPU for a while: because it blew away the regular 5000 series parts AND often came out favorably against thr non-x3D 7000 series parts.

Is it worth it to you? That's a different question, but given your gpu you'd probably benefit from it.

yup if not moving to AM5 go 5800x3D slower than a 5800x in workloads but in the majority of games and exceelent performer. even kicked intel off the top place on many games when it was released and the beast still holding its own today. excellent gaming CPU.

Cryto mining will determine what happens here. The demand from gamers is mostly static, but the supply is increasing all the time. In a normal market, with this many cards being made, the prices would crash. However, this doesn't happen, because the demand from miners is all but infinite. A graphics card is a money printer to them, so they want as many as possible.

If Ethereum goes to proof of stake at the end of the year, then it could finally relax mining demand. The result would be a huge shift in the market that would drop prices in short order to near what each card is worth to gamers compared to the cards they currently have, likely around the value of the 20 series, which isn't great but is way better.

If crypto has a crash, then prices will plummet below MSRP as miners sell off the cards to recoup losses.

Cryto is the only thing that matters for this question. Nvidia and AMD could literally each make a billion cards and it wouldn't matter as long as the price is lower than about 3-6 months of mining profit. Miners will buy as many as they possibly can at such prices, so the demand from gamers is irrelevant.

Hello. I would get a 3600 or the 3300x instead of the 1600. I would also get a cheaper NVME ssd like the intel 660p.

You can cut the case to your heart's desire to make things fit.  As for the power supply, you should be able to just yeet it out the system. It might look weird because it's specifically made to fit in the compaq 6300 mt case. Also maybe upgrade the ram. From what I saw online it seems not good for gaming. Compatibility with the graphics card and motherboard shouldn't be a problem

    https://hardwareleaks.com/2020/06/21/exclusive-first-look-at-nvidias-ampere-gaming-performance/

Long story short are the following details from the article:

GPU core clock reports as 1935mhz, Memory clock is 6000mhz but likely a misreport due to new memory type/early driver.

EDIT: Alright, if I'm to add in something original, then here we go:

GA100 at least doesn't show any major uplifts in performance/flop or IPC, whatever you want to call it. There seems to be little adjustments to the uArch in terms of shaders. Consumer facing Ampere I'd hope is different, but I can't see some revolutionary jump in performance coming as a result of this.

The score is in line with what you'd expect from the same kind of clocks and 20-something% extra CUDA cores. I do hope the final clocks are higher though at the least, especially given the 350W rumour. At, say, 2.3GHz, it would become a 50% lead over the 2080Ti which is more like what you'd expect generation on generation. But in any case, the main point I'm trying to make here I'm fairly sure this is either the rumoured 3090 or Titan GPUs.

If you're primarily using steam, you can move the Steam Library to another drive, and you can move specific games to specific drives. So whatever you play is on the mechanical drive unless it's big and load-heavy, then you move it to the SSD.

I would however suggest, that the "500GB" SSD is too small for a gaming machine, and while I don't advocate for being cheap, you're better off buying a series of 2TB external drives, and move games off your boot drive when you no longer play them, than buying large internal 7200rpm drives.

As the drives in my system go back to at least 2010, I only bought 7200RPM drives until SSD's became cheap enough and I felt like reinstalling the OS. I'd reinstall the OS again only to a new larger and faster SSD. It's otherwise not worth the effort.

Max out the RAM in the system and the loading time won't be an issue as the disk cache will take care of it.

Perrin reacted to Alex Atkin UK in Harddrive or SSD for gaming
Going forward, games are going to need an SSD more and more, but for older games there is generally little to no benefit.

Strangely I found on some games the gap in load times between an SSD and HDD narrowed as I upgraded my CPU.

I tend to play a lot of open world games though, those typically run much better off an SSD.
