  1. Would be pretty sweet, I feel like a 980 might be a little unbalanced for my 6 year olds cpu's though
  2. Would perhaps it be feasible to replace his Dell Ultrabook with say a 13" Retina Macbook Pro for a month? I imagine most of the work he does on that is, browser/word/office based? I know he said he wouldn't use a laptop without a touchscreen, but the track pad and gestures of the MBP and OSX is really pretty good productivity wise. Really I found that after a week I was using OSX faster than Windows when I had a loan of a Macbook Pro.
  3. I really enjoy the design and the tap the screen to wake feature
  4. Ah but that is the thing, the 50d has been hacked to do raw aswell, and because it has a fast cf card instead of sd, it is second only to the 5d mkiii and mk ii in raw video, will do nearly 1080p raw, can also record h.264, was never designed for video, so no audio which makes audio syncing a bit of a pain. It has awesome build quality which is why I'm considering it over one of the newer rebel cameras...
  5. A Sony camcorder with awesome built in stabilization for video, and have a couple of crappy point and shoots, thinking of getting a used 50d for photos and raw video but cf cards are pricey...need a cf to ssd adapter...
  6. A micro 4/3 camera might be something to look into, and a nice wide angle lens ( careful with crop factor)
  7. I'd grab a subscription to adobe creative cloud, if you can verify as a student its only $15 a month, and you can upgrade if your making money to he full version.
  8. Premiere for my NLE, After effects for motion graphics and compositing, Maya for 3d work, Photoshop for photo and texturing... Yay for student prices on things
  9. Aw, shipping kills the deal. No mechanical steam punk keyboard for me...
  10. Would somebody maybe be able to tell me the dimensions and weight of the packaged keyboard? I want to check if shipping to NZ would be worth it, thanks
  11. Have a look in the artisan section of OCN there are people there who do laser cutting and therefore by extension laser etching. Depending on what your doing with the mod, you could replace the side panel with smoked plexi and etch that, then you can backlight that for a glowing apple symbol. Although that would probably only work best if you painted/powdercoated it black.
  12. When I'm designing custom cases I usually go pen/paper first, then I do a draft in sketchup and finally move on to a final CAD copy in Autodesk Inventor. When building I usually get the panels ordered to cut size then cut all the holes etc with a jigsaw. But if you have access to a CNC machine at your uni then I'd definitely use it.
