PandaGab68 got a reaction from Fuogvarex in Fan motor humming / rattling noise and PWM
Same here, but I did get the Silentwing 3 (x2) as intake and it is not quieter by any stretch. IMO it just have the posibility of getting even louder than the purewing. Don't get me wrong tho! There are silent until approx. 55%-60% but pass that !! They are as loud as the purewing or maybe even worst.

    With that said :

'' I went on Noctua's site and I don't understand if their redux serie is only package redux or also quality redux ?''
Their Redux line-up use their SSO bearings instead of the SSO2 (upgraded version). The package will comme with the fan and screws. No spliters, no vibration pads and the most obvious : grey on grey. (I have nf-p12 and nf-p12 redux and imo, their the same but a bit louder at high rpm)

'' Is there any point to put noctua's LNA adapters between fans and a PWM fan hub ? ''
Yes as it will reduce the max speed, therefore the sound.

I don't have answer to the 2nd one but I'd guess you'd be ok since I do it and my pc didn't explode. BUT i don't have an real explanation for you on that one.

And for what I would do ? as much as a noctua lover that I am, there aren't cheap. So I went on the P14 (by arctic) route to see if it's any brighter there.

    Hope it help.

I built a new custom UI on top of OpenHardwareMonitor with additional features, mainly linear fan curves with custom temperature sources.

         STORY
    ______________________________

As you guys may know, SpeedFan is sadly not updated anymore, so newer boards are not detected properly.

The main feature I used was the custom fan curves with custom temperature sources. I used it to bind my case fans speed to the hottest component of my PC, my GPU.
(My BIOS only supports CPU temperature as a temperature source for the PWM fans).

I searched around for an alternative software with this particular feature and only found a paid option (Angus Monitor).

However, I also came around this:

    https://github.com/openhardwaremonitor/openhardwaremonitor
    https://github.com/LibreHardwareMonitor/LibreHardwareMonitor

The first link is an original project which could be downloaded here https://openhardwaremonitor.org/, but just like SpeedFan, the project is not updated anymore.
However, thanks to the code base being open sourced, there are a couple of active branches, LibreHardwareMonitor being the best one I found, supporting my MSI Z390 Edge AC board and being updated regularly.
OpenHardwareMonitor is divided into two parts, an API to interact with your hardware ( CPU, RAM, Fans... ) and a UI. The existing UI is a HWMonitor clone that allows to set a manual fan speed to any fan, but no temperature/speed fan curve here.
    ( sigh )

So I decided to make my own lightweight application with the OpenHardwareMonitorLib API, and here is what I got so far...

    Current features:
OTA update Multi-config support with quick-switch from tray icon Dark/light mode + colors Graph fan curves Linear fan curves Flat fan curves Mixed fan curves Sync fan curves Custom name for each fan / curve / control Material UI ( thanks to http://materialdesigninxaml.net/ ) Smooth fan speed transitions Custom temperature source Automatic or manual matching between your controls and fan speeds Activation% (dead zone) for each fan Saves your current configuration and reload it on startup Board support is updated whenever the API gets an update!
Please note that this is a small personal project. It works great for my needs but I didn't test it on a hundred different motherboards. Take it as it is. If it works on your current setup, well you got your fan control situation sorted at least until you change your motherboard!

If you want to help me out a bit or give me feedback, I included some links/button in the left hamburger menu out of the way to send me an email
    or to pay me a 🍺 ... or 🍺🍺🍺.

I will also keep an eye on this thread to see how it goes.

    Hi,

I bought a [Silent Base 802] from Be quiet that comes with 3x[Pure Wings 2 140mm] fans connected to the case PWM fan hub, itselft connected on the Asus Rog Strix x570-F motherboard on a the CHA 4 pin.
My ventirad is a Dark Rock Pro 4 with 1x [Silent Wings 3 120mm PWM] + 1x [Silent Wings 135mm PWM]. Those silent wings seems to be fine.
Heat to manage : Ryzen 3700x and RTX 3060.

I wanted the most silent case possible at idle / office / web use, but I am disapointed about a little but audible rattling motor noise coming from the 3x[Pure Wings 2 140mm] fans so I plan to change my fans.
I'd go for [Silent Wings 3 140mm] because the 120mm doesn't have artifact noise.
Is there any other fan without any humming noise ?

I have some extra questions for you guys :
I went on Noctua's site and I don't understand if their redux serie is only package redux or also quality redux ?
Can I connect a 3 pin fan to a PWM fan hub to reduce speed without any damage ?
Is there any point to put noctua's LNA adapters between fans and a PWM fan hub ?

    Thanks

    1. No
    2. If frame rates can drop below 120fps, yes
    3. Freesync on high refresh rate monitor tends to not add much to the price, so I would opt for it regardless.

PandaGab68 reacted to Semper in To Freesync or not to freesync, there is the question.
    1. No, unless it's native refresh rate is 60hz.
    2. Subjectively, I believe so, yes. Adaptive refresh is the second best thing since sliced bread.
3.This is a very broad question, so I'll simply say; the best thing that fits your budget.

Crossfire RX 580 will be about as good as your current setup when it is supported well, maybe a touch better. While in scenarios where it is not supported well, you will get a lot less fps and possibly stuttering too. Not worth it.

Either sell your 1070 Ti and buying something newer or just keep it as-is.

The 3600x is a higher power chip than the 4670k. Seems alright to me, just make sure to check your temps after overclocking and you'll be fine.

You don't need to worry about GPU bottlenecking CPU. Opposite is the problem. Just get the best gpu within your budget.

A 1070 ti and a 3600X are a good combination. A bottleneck is not something you should worry about
