nanopone got a reaction from SorryBella in 10 Weird Versions of Linux that ACTUALLY Exist
logged into my forum account for the first time in a while just to say:
DO NOT USE LINUXFX (or any affiliated distro like wubuntu)
they are known for stealing code and assets, logging users, having extremely poor security practices, and breaking software licenses. not only that, but they have the balls to sell a "professional" license key
"familiar", it is not. linuxfx is just a freely available windows-like theme on top of kde plasma (a common desktop environment) with some janky windows-like software included
if you want something genuinely windows-like, look at any distro that comes with kde plasma or cinnamon, namely, ultramarine linux or linux mint, which are both rock solid and use the typical windows-like taskbar paradigm
i'm honestly disappointed about this being at the start of the video, before even the intro plays, or even being included in the video in the first place. it's even more irresponsible than when ltt recommended atlasos. i expected more research and responsible reporting, especially after the controversy in august

nanopone got a reaction from thedylanarts in Lets Give Linus a good Linux Expirience!
a linux distro being "more like windows" is never a good thing. if you're going linux, embrace linux, don't try to dress it up and put makeup on it to pretend you're still using windows

nanopone got a reaction from Ultraforce in What is the linux distro with the best touch ui
you're not really looking for a distro that's touch optimised, you're more looking for a desktop environment which is touch optimised. in your case, it would probably be gnome. ubuntu ships with gnome, but i would not recommend that you use ubuntu as the snap ecosystem of software is still extremely poor. fedora ships with gnome and is very user friendly and leaves gnome mostly stock. it's also recommended by the gnome project itself

Anthony comes out as Transgender.
So let's all welcome Emily, I hope she doesn't get too camera shy, we'd still love to see you.

nanopone reacted to PurpleRiver_Dev in Downloading Linux ISOs
I've been out of the game for a while, but following the recent further fragmentation of ISO streaming services I'm looking download some high quality Linux ISOs and wondering what the current suggested safe(ish) method is.
I had a search of the forum and couldn't find any guides or suggestions for getting Linux ISOs. Does anyone have any pointers for a direction to head in?

nanopone got a reaction from EphraimK in Favorite version of macOS?
10.6, 10.9 and 10.11.
10.6 because of nostalgia, 10.9 because i just simply love the user interface, 10.12 because of its reliability and software support.

nanopone got a reaction from Condex in Free anti virus
windows defender and common sense.
do not install a 3rd party antivirus. they slow your pc down and often mark innocent files as viruses.
don't be scared of the internet, viruses are hard to come by nowadays.

nanopone got a reaction from Gifura in Linux Newbie
every app on the aur is maintained by a person. the install scripts are public and can be read, so 99% of the time they're safe. i would not recommend using snaps or flatpaks as they usually function different from native linux binaries and have security flaws.
spotify is available from the aur, which you can access by enabling aur support in pamac's settings if you haven't already.

nanopone got a reaction from DSD27 in Opera GX or Chrome?
opera is known for some shady things. i personally think the whole gaming browser thing is quite cringeworthy, but to each their own. i use safari.

nanopone got a reaction from DSD27 in Please Help Me With With The Best AntiVirus
windows defender. it's built into windows 10. common sense also helps. viruses are a lot less prevalent than they used to be, you don't need to worry. installing 3rd party antiviruses just slows down your computer.
i consider antiviruses malware because their malicious intent is to fearmonger you into buying their overpriced product.

for most lightweight, mumble.

nanopone got a reaction from kelvinhall05 in Linux gaming is BETTER than Windows?
in a lot of cases, linux kicks windows' ass in terms of gaming.
by the way, i'm not sure why you guys are recommending ubuntu in 2020, manjaro has long since passed it in terms of user friendliness and powerfulness.
