  1. Must win all the things! Username is 10MDG - Same as here. Favorited videos on Vessel (thus far...): Hardline Water Cooled PC Build Log https://www.vessel.com/videos/JYZEYDYx0 5K Nvidia GeForce Titan X SLI Performance Benchmarks https://www.vessel.com/videos/JemZ8O7Hy
  2. I like the 900 series in general. Nothing specific. If did have to say something I like about Zotac's 970... it's not a reference 970.
  3. Congrats, Linus & all, and thank you for all you and everyone at Linus Media Group do. I found Linus Tech Tips back when it had first started in 2009. I've really enjoyed the videos over the years. Also, thank you for always interacting with your community, be it the WAN Show, the forums, or just playing good old Halo C.E. (I had a lot of fun with the last one ;D).
  4. Hi, All. I just wanted to say thanks to Linus and Slick for posting the Halo C.E. Twitch stream last night. I was able to play with them in game for a round of CTF. Even though I am terribly bad at Halo, haven't played my copy in quite some time, and the lag was terribly bad, I still had fun with Linus, Slick, and everyone else. I also quite enjoyed the commentary from Twitch, after a good twenty seconds of delay. "He abandoned me in my hour of need" - Linus Thanks guys!
  5. I quite like the aluminum build, distinctive red on black, all those wonderful signatures, and the wonderful IPS display! Oh my!
  6. TheNinjaNextDor, thank you for the WS Mobo suggestion! After looking at some workstation boards, I'm going to go with Asus P9X79-E. Also, thank you for the build suggestion. I'll consider it when it comes time to build a new workstation. Cann0nballer, I thought I'd wind up needing the 64GB over the 32GB, and I'll be sure to stick with the 2133Mhz. Also, yes. I do plan to eventually run at least two (most likely three...) Titan Blacks in SLI, so I'll go with the AX1200i. Thanks guys! -10mdg
  7. Intro/Budget/Location/Why. - Hi guys. Recently my old workstation died on me, and I've been thinking of a new build. Originally, I was planning on going in with a budget of $2.5 to $4k USD. However, as I added more and more to the list, I threw the budget out the window (There isn't a budget at this point, thus the build is hypothetical). I went in with what rudimentary knowledge I had, and did a little workstation parts list in my spare time (keep in mind, I like shiny and new things =P). The main purpose of this build will be more of a workstation, a home media server, and an audiophile's dream (with some gaming from time to time). Aim For The Build. - I'll be mainly running Photoshop CS6, Lightroom, and listening to high quality FLAC music while doing so (and while doing most everything else). Other than that, I'm planning on getting back into 3DS Max, and the Cryengine 3 SDK. Another thing I'd like out of this PC is longevity. I'd rather build an expensive and long lasting PC now, rather than end up replacing most of my parts in the long run (I plan to add, not replace). Peripherals. - What would be normally listed and isn't, I already have. What I came up with... - Intel Core i7-4930K - Corsair H110 (To be used according to THIS mod) - Asus X79 Deluxe - Corsair Dominator Platinum (64GB 2133Mhz) - 1x WD Black² Dual Drive - 3x WD Black 4TB HDDs (To be kept in THIS) - 1x EVGA Titan Black (Possibly one more later on... I might soft-mod it into a K6000, read about something like this HERE) - Fractal Design Define R4 Blackout (NO window) - Corsair AX1200i - Microsoft Windows 8.1 Professional - 1x Asus PA279Q Monitor (I plan to get another down the road) - 6x bgears b-Blaster 140 (4 for P/P, 1 for exhaust, and one extra) - 1x WD My Book 4TB (One of the three WD Blacks will be solely for my photography, this will be a 1 to 1 back-up drive) - HT Omega Claro Halo XT Sound Card - Behringer MS40 Stereo Near Field Monitors The total price is some $6.1k USD (according to PCPartPicker) Questions. - 1.) Do I need the 64GB of ram? Would I be better off with 32GBs of Dominator Platinum at 2400Mhz? I normally have anywhere from 400-1k photos open in Photoshop at once. 2.) I don't have a lot of knowledge when it comes to Mobo shopping. I will be HEAVILY OCing the CPU, and thought this Mobo would fair well (after watching Linus's unboxing). Am I right in thinking so? 3.) Do I need the Corsair AX1200i, or would the RM1000 suffice? 4.) When I do get a second Asus 1440p ProArt monitor, will one Titan Black be able to handle two of these, or will I need to get a second Titan Black? 5.) If I do decide to go ahead and build this rig, should I wait for the new Core-i7s and the accompanying new Mobos to release, and then update the rig accordingly? 6.) Do you have a better rig to recommend? Thanks you guys! - 10mdg
  8. Sadly, after letting SpinRite run for 65 hours at level 5, nothing seems to have changed. The drive is truly toast.
  9. After having the drive in the freezer for a good 18 hours or so, I then plugged it into a PC I moved by the fridge. Unfortunately, the drive wouldn't function, and gave off a symphony of beeps (No really, it sounded something more close to a symphonic piece, than series of error beeps). I took it out of the freezer, let it thaw completely, and am now running SpinRite as a last resort. At this point, I'm looking into a new workstation build. The dead PC I have now is rather old and not worth fixing.
  10. Thank you, WinNut. I've considered freezing the HDD before. However, I'm somewhat apprehensive, do to the eventual removing of the HDD, and the thawing and condensation that would occur. About the HDD recovery service, do you have any services you recommend (I'm presuming Seagate), and how much I can expect to pay?
  11. Hi, everyone (first post, thought I'd say hello)! Only a little less than a week ago, I was out of town, and left my PC on to P2P share files. After returning home, I came home to find my PC on, but frozen completely, with no HDD activity after twenty minutes. I thought it was odd, so I asked my brother (who was home the entire time) if anything had happened while I was gone. He then began to inform me that a random two second power outage occurred (maybe a surge?). So I I figured I'd reboot my PC, and everything would be fine. It wasn't. My PC sadly, couldn't even make it past the motherboard's booth splash, and "loaded" indefinitely, again, with no HDD activity. What did I then decide to do? Run CHKDSK on another PC, on my drive. I decided to run it in a "Brute Force" method, "CHKDSK D:\ /R /F /X /C" A good 12 hours later, it was done, and I loaded WinDirStat to confirm all my files where there. They weren't... Of my 90% or so HDD, only 10% was shown to be occupied. I then made sure that all extra file types were displayed (Free Space, and "Unkown"). Guess what?! All the Data that is normally shown to be on my HDD (that missing 80%), was listed as unkown. After visiting WinDirStat's forum, it was made to my attention that the Unknown may be some, or one, System Restore Point. After running Windiws System Restore off a disk, there where no RSPs found. So at this point I figured I'd create an account here on the LinusTechTips.com forums and see what the experts in HDD recovery might have to say, or fork over some cash and send my HDDs (there are actually 4, one completely dead, three though this EXACT process, and one of those three already near dead), off to a recovery service in town. Do know that I'm typing this off a phone at the moment (can't access a PC right now). Thank you for taking the time to at least read my first post! ^.^ -10MDG
