  1. this one actually seems ok, if the build quality is acceptable. I couln't find any real problems(at this point I accepted 4gb of ram). But it's available only in USA, and I'm not there(sorry for not mentioning). I couldn't find it anywhere in my area. Is it available under some other branding?
  2. this seems ideal. If only I could find something similar, but with a bit less features and cheaper... I'd happily cut several hours of battery life, fingerprint sensor and a copy of win10.
  3. yes, but this is probably an overkill for me. (and cheapest cost more than 1000$, this is not really an option)
  4. In that case could you suggest some laptops that satisfy all the requirements(except price) and have truly good build quality?
  5. HI, my almost four-year old laptop got another broken fan just today(again), so I decided to make a stationary PC out of it. Now I'm looking for a laptop to take with me. I want it to be cheap, preferably in range of 300$. However, when I searched for a laptop with my(I think humble enough) requirements, the cheapest model I found at a local shop was near 480$. So right now I'm looking for some advice, as I don't really know much about modern laptops. Maybe I'm being unreasonable and such machine does not exist? The requirements are * at least 6 hours of battery life [more = better, this is top priority] * good build quality, preferably no fans. I'm not planning to throw or drop it, but it should last for a long time and be comfortable to use in imperfect conditions(e.g. no table) [this is very important as well] * weight: no more than 2kg * screen size: 13+ * 6gb of memory(or at least upgradable ram) * reasonable port selection. at least one usb type A would be nice. Ethernet and memory card slot are not required * not bad wifi adapter * at least "ok" level keyboard and trackpad * some webcam * performance: I'm going to use it for browsing, some light compiling, command line utilities. I want it to playback youtube videos at native resolution to watch ltt away from home. * at least 128gb of total disk space(or upgradable slot) * bootable ssd(or at least a slot for it) * IPS 1080 screen would be de desirable, but if there's no other choice, it may go. * preferably x86-64 architecture * any keyboard backlight would be nice. but not really necessary what I don't care about: * speakers * gaming(just on this laptop. gaming is fun)). Lack of dedicated gpu is probably a plus * preinstalled OS(but I need an ability to install any OS i'd like later) * windows hello or fingerprint sensor
  6. I think, I'll get basic kindle 8 or 9, thanks)
  7. And it didn't die in 5 years? Sounds good
  8. Kobo Clara is a bit pricy in my region . Which Kindles did you use?
  9. Thanks, this seems handy And how is your battery life so far? Is the battery removable?
  10. Hi, I've just started looking for an ebook and have some questions. As I understand, Amazon's Kindle brand is a way to go in terms of value. However, I have some concerns: first of all, is it possible to download random .txt/.fb2/.pdf files from a PC to the device, or am I bound to the integrated book store? Are there any significant experience differences between recent models and, say, 2015-2016 ones? I'm looking for a device in a <125$ range and currently considering Kindle PaperWhite 2015 with ads, but have some doubts. My priorities are(in descending order) 0) not bad display and convenient interface 1) good battery life and responsiveness 2) audio support and 3) water resistance. If anyone happens to have experience with Amazaon ebooks, please share! And if you have any other suggestions, will definitely check them out
  11. True, that's why I'm primary looking for ways to reuse the screen. I hope that there are some, because it would be a shame to just get rid of it
  12. Hi, I happen to have an old tablet(Samsung galaxy tab 2 with 7.0 screen). Recently I gave it to the repair shop because the thing wasn't charging. They gave me a warning that they'll try to fix it, but couldn't guarantee success. Long story short, they failed, and now it's charging but turning off in random interval from 1 to 20 seconds from turning the power on. I like this tablet and want to give it a new life, but out of ideas. The screen and touch functionality are perfectly fine, so I suppose it is possible to use it as some sort of additional screen for my computer(linux/windows) or merge the touchscreen with Raspberry Pi for some kind of remote access device. In the end, fun and light difficulty of the project may be more important than practicality. If you have any ideas, I'll be glad to try them out!
