The same way your remote controls the TV: with an infrared LED.

All it's doing is taking in the blinking pattern from your remote, and repeating the same blinking pattern with its own LED. Your TV doesn't know the difference.

yeah i got that already. i was more stuck on how would it know without it being connected to the TV in some way like how your cable box can have an IR receiver so you can hide it away.

I have the first one I linked.  While it does have the capability of having 3 inputs, it only comes with one IR receiver.  But definitely shop around and find one that works with your setup.

well 1 receiver and 1 transmitter is all i need. i just need to move the location if the IR of the TV to another place so i can still control it when my cat decides they want to lay in front of where it supposed to be going to.

I don't think you're stupid because you didn't know how they are setup.  I've been using them for years so it's second nature to me.

well i kind of was. i was thinking and expecting them to have to hook up to what you wanted to control so it could be controlled just like how your cable box or satellite dish has to be. but i had no idea as i have never even thought of them as i never planned on using them but my cat recently has decided that it wants to lay in front of the TV right where the IR signal goes into it.

i will look at that product you linked and any others you can think of. right now i dont need something that has 3 inputs and 4 outputs.

thanks. i finally understand what you were talking about as well as ikeagnome. it just took me a minute because of me being stupid so thanks. i will look into this one more. and i am not sure. i said the model in the first post.

  5. 1 minute ago, IkeaGnome said:

It takes a signal from your remote through one of it's receivers, the box repeats it, then outputs it through one of the emitters that you place near/over the IR receiver on your tv.

Correct. This video shows it pretty well.

yeah, took me a minute to understand, sorry for me being stupid. but that is why i asked. i know with my cable box it came with a port just for the IR receiver to be placed so the box could be hidden so i was expecting the TV to be the same.

do you know of any product that doesnt need to be plugged into the wall? kind of limited on plugs even with a 12 plug surge protector.

  6. 8 minutes ago, IkeaGnome said:

You seem stuck on the idea that they plug into the TV. Nothing from that plugs directly into your TV.

The distribution block, which has the 3.5mm female ends for the receivers and transmitters is the only thing that the receivers and transmitters plug in.

They don't plug into the TV.

oh i think i get it now. place the IR transmitter over the original receiver and place a IR receiver where it can be seen or get the signal.

yes i am stuck on it because if its not plugged into your TV or whatever you are trying to control, then how does it control it? i understand it moves the IR receiver to where it can receive the signal but without being plugged into what is supposed to receive the signal originally, then how does this work?

oh and sorry, i am more of a visual learner. if you got something you can show me, it will help much more.

The IR sensors and repeaters don't plug into the TV with the 3.5mm jack. They plug into the control box. The receivers are placed where your remotes can get to them, and the emitters are placed where the tv can see them.

yes i know that but looking at the link that erioch posted, there is not 1 connection that is anything but a 3.5mm.

  9. 3 hours ago, Erioch said:

It doesn't need one.  You put the little repeaters over the IR sensor on the TV.

great but it still looking like it needs to be connected to the TV somehow and all of the ones in the link you gave me are 3.5mm headphone jack plugs which this TV doesnt have. so how would i connect it to the TV then since its supposed to extend the range or move the IR receiver to a more suitable location?

  10. posting this in general because it kind of falls under general, off topic troubleshooting and displays as far as i can tell.

i am wondering if its possible to add an IR receiver/extender to an LG 42" TV that was built in 2011. the model is 42LV4400. i am just wondering because my cat loves to sit right where the IR receiver for the TV is so it blocks the signals when i want to change. so i an looking for this so i can move it to the top of the TV so i dont have to worry about it anymore.

I guess everyone is different. Of all the conferences like this that I've been to (about 5 or so) none were worth going to. They are just in person ads and I already hate ads on tv and magazines so paying to go in person is hell to me.

well personally i like the in person better because i can see the item and what it does and doesnt have physically vs seeing in on a TV screen or computer monitor that is no where near as detailed as the one they are advertising so you can only go off of what you see thru your monitor.

You honestly think $300 is worth going just to get information a week earlier than your friends or those around you?

well yes and no. in 2014 i went to the gamestop expo in Anaheim CA and i live on the US east coast so overall i spent around $1500 then but its something i wanted to do. so i would say it would have to be personal preference on if you think its worth it or not and i know you were asking me if i think it is. well i think the experience of going to some place that most dont get to see or something you havent done before might be worth it. but i see people like the ones i listed above either livestreaming it or at least recording it to be posted like you said.

It varies, some are older than 3.1 (no UI), and some newer stuff, possibly newer than Vista/7. For example, a prototype PC running Win7 could be found.

I'm bringing a 1980 Apple II+ and some PowerPC stuff (Power Mac G4 and G5)

i am in my mid 30s but i remember some 90s computers, then us having these when i was in 5th and 6th grade iMac_3q.jpg

Sure. Though you really have to think, how much trouble/cost setting up a company is and is $300 admission fee worth it. In comparison, the three largest tech fairs here Assembly Summer, Assembly Winter and Sound & Picture. Of those, weekend pass to Assembly is €30 and day ticket to Sound and Picture €15. They are also primarily intended for general public, not for industry affiliates.

Pricing seems to be same as to Gamescom which is European version of E3.

well its actually extremely easy to set up a company here in the US. most that do start an LLC (limited liability company/corporation) which if i am right would be the same or similar to the Ltd (limited) companies or corporations in england or europe but i have not looked into it so i can not say for sure. and the real issue with becoming an affiliate like linus, jaytwocents, gamers nexus, bitwit kyle, pauls hardware, etc. etc. is that it takes years and you have to build yourself up to high stats before being invited to join. $300 for getting a first hand look of the new stuff its probably worth it when you compare your experience to those around you that didnt go. the issue i have with any of this is that they schedule multiple things for all at the same time, like LG will be doing a floor demonstration will Samsung/sony or whoever will be doing one in the exhibit hall 1000ft away.

i am just looking forward to seeing the videos from the ones that do go so i can see the new tech and compare it myself to see what i am thinking of buying as i need a new monitor but nothing comes as big as i need without going stupidly expensive LED panels like for outdoor sports stadiums.

You need to be press or industry affiliate to go to most of those trade shows like CES. Smaller events, more like fairs, sure. But they are also held with LAN events like PAX in NA, Dreamhack etc. Assembly here in Finland.

well i looked into it and they allow you to register with your company name so you could create your own small company, register it for the event and then go to it. and these places dont really care if you are or not, they just care if you paid your registration fees. but i was more curious as i am waiting to hear the latest tech related stuff like new TVs coming out on 2024.

  16. i am not sure if this belongs here or in off topic because it is about tech but also a place where it can be general in the terms of discussing some tech related things.

mainly why i am making this is because i want to know if anyone here is going to CES 2024 or any other tech related convention within the next year or who here has been to one in the past?

  17. personally i dont think i would go with a projector unless its solely for movies. they usually only have 2 HDMI ports which means having to switch from TV/cable box, console and PC if you want to do that. although i can see it being put on a sort of rail system to slide it back and forth so you can have a big screen one day and small the next or go with a short throw projector so it will not take up that much room.

I'm looking for something around 200-350 max.

That does look like a good monitor but I'd like something a little smaller (no bigger than 27")

personally i would avoid anything acer because my parents have 2 acer monitors that are causing issues. the Gigabyte m27q was talked about in another topic here and someone said it was a bad monitor, dont know how much i believe that as i dont know if its true or not. ViewSonic xg2431 is not really a gaming monitor just based on price alone.

    just my opinion

For the most part I only play fast paced PVP FPS games and have the HP x24ih monitor (1080p, 144hz). It does a decent job but I can tell that its a bit cheap. I'm looking to upgrade and am unsure of what to get. After some research I've come up with some ideas. What do you guys think would be the best choice? Quick note, I don't want to go with a display that's any bigger than 27".

    MSI g274qpx

    VG259QM

    Acer Nitro xv272u

    ViewSonic xg2431

    Gigabyte m27q

My specs for my PC currently are:

    CPU: Ryzen 7600x

    Memory: 32gb 6000mhz

    Storage: 1tb 980 evo

GPU: 6650xt (but looking at upgrading to a 4070 which is why I'm even considering 1440p panels)

    PSU: 850 watt

Any help would be amazing, thanks in advanced!

well what is your budget for this? or the most you are willing to spend? i know corsair just released this one CORSAIR XENEON 315QHD165 32-Inch IPS Gaming Monitor, QHD (2560 x 1440), 165Hz, 1ms, HDR-ready, 1.07 Billion Colors and here is the full list Gaming Monitors & Displays | CORSAIR

I actually have someone swearing up and down that these cables are the best. I don't know if it's a trick or not, but with the setup, it almost sounded clearer, with better bass / lows when he switched from your basic $20 HDMI 2.1 cable to the Audio quest version. Claiming that they put more on the eARC pins.... Would love to see Linus test more of these high-priced cables.

Did you purchase the AudioQuest ones? did you notice anything if you did.

The reason I ask, My Soundbar (Samsung Q800) seems to be causing my TV to short and turn off. As long as I don't have the soundbar plugged into the eARC port on my Samsung TV, the TV works just fine. He is blaming my Cable, which is a Startech HDMI 2.1 Certified. 6ft 2m Certified HDMI 2.1 Cable - 8K/4K - HDMI® Cables & HDMI Adapters | StarTech.com Canada

The TV is brand new this year. Soundbar is about 1.5 - 2 years old. IT will be fine for a bit, but when i start a movie with Dolby Atmos and turn it up, the TV will click and turn off. Soundbar stays on. I can watch the same move just fine without the soundbar.

well the only way to know for sure is to put the TV in a sound booth and test it which most companies dont do they just claim to be better than the competition so you will buy their product. its basic marketing  but know i havent bought them. for the dragon 48 for example a 5ft cable cost $3000. AudioQuest Dragon 5' 4K-8K-10K 48Gbps HDMI Cable Black/Gray HDM48DRA150 - Best Buy

ok. 2 monitors that have more than 165hz, 27" and 1440p for $400 is going to be a little tough. basically you have a $200 limit per monitor which doesnt really open up many good  options. with your limited budget. the monitor you linked is probably the best one for you. but before buying it, i would wait to see if any others on here agree or disagree with me

Currently I have 2 24 in monitors, one that is 1080p 165 hz and the other is an old hp one that is 1920/1200 that is a little bit annoying. I want to upgrade my main monitor to hopefully more hz, 27 in and 1440p. The new setup that I want will have two horizontal monitors stacked on top on one another right in front of me and then a vertical one to the left of me (probably the 165 hz one) I want it to look as uniform as possible but I don't really want to spend as much on the secondary monitor since its not going to be used for gaming. So I wanted to know which monitors to pick, currently I'm looking at one on a black friday deal (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C4Z8RFY9/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1) but not sure what other one to choose. I also was wondering what monitor stand to select for this as I dont want the monitors too far from the wall since my desk is not that big. I would like to spend around 400 dollars. Thank you!

are you looking for 1, 2 or 3 monitors?
