  1. I would have no idea where to put this, so I just put it in off-topic. My recently-bought TRS-80 pocket computer PC-3 has a problem. The computer has a consistent keyboard problem where some keys (Namely, Q,W,R,T,Y,U,P,S,Z,X,V,) when tapped will be replaced by a ~ symbol. For example, I type TTTT and it comes out as "T ~ T ~ ". Because of this, I cannot make any BASIC programs. In addition, the number pad has this problem too. I type 00112233445566778899 and it will come out as "0 1A2B3C4D5E6F7G8H9I". I've tried "All Reset" but every time I do it the display looks corrupted and the computer won't work until I take out the batteries and put them in again. I can provide a video if you'd like. Thanks in advance!
  2. Reading a little more about these old games, they do have some kind of protection and cannot be transferred to a hard drive on almost all vintage PCs. I'm trying to find a program that will open these disks and extract them, not just emulate it.
  3. I recently found a bunch of floppy disk images online of some old IBM PC booter games like Centipede & Galaxian in the form of an .IMG file. When using DiskWrite to copy it to a 3 1/2 inch floppy it tells me "The selected file is not a valid floppy disk image". I can run these just fine in emulators, but I can't write it to either my high density or double density disks. Is there a program I can properly use to write these images to floppy? I'm thinking it might need a 5.25 inch disk, but I don't have a KryoFlux to connect it. I can provide downloads to the images and the program I'm using to write them to disk.
  4. Then this is probably the (thankfully it can't get worse) worst case scenario to this problem. I've checked and ram is fine, so I'm guessing it's the motherboard. I'll probably have to replace the motherboard in its entirety, sadly. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! I'll have to order the motherboard off of EBay or NewEgg or something.
  5. Recently, my dad gave me his Gateway MG1 FX laptop because it broke. It managed to boot a couple of times, but when it did, it didn't stay powered on long. Here are the symptoms. The computer had been sitting in a closet for a few years and when I plugged into the AC adapter for the first time, it seemed to be booting okay and I could get into the BIOS settings which needed a password. However, the computer shut itself off not long after I saw the Gateway logo. While booting, some words were consistently misspelled, such as D swaps with T and so on. This randomizes each time you can get it to boot. After a couple power-ons, the computer just shuts off about a half second after I press the power button. It seems to be purposely turning itself off because while it is on (screen is black but is on, backlighted buttons turn on) the touch-sensor volume buttons can be used and are responsive. Here is a link to the specs I found online: https://www.cnet.com/products/gateway-p-6831fx/specs/ My question is: What can I do to fix a computer without a functional BIOS?
