  1. Well the point is to just max out what I have basically, so if putting a 1080 in is a waste of money and a 1660 is enough, I can go with that
  2. About 50-ish bucks used, in good shape. Would a gtx1080 still be bottlenecked by that?
  3. Oh it wouldn't be completely idle, my son would be playing some games on it (he's small so he doesn't really care about high fps)
  4. Well, I'd rather stay away from soldering honestly. I read it was a pretty simple thing to flash the bios to support 7th gen intel
  5. Hey fellas, I hope this section is correct for upgrades too. Since I just built a new pc (thanks for the help!), I want to try to maximize the old one's performance and keep it as a backup. Currently: mobo: Gigabyte h170 gpu: RX 480 cpu: core i5 6500 ram: 16gb (8x2) 3200mhz (I think, I should double check) I was thinking of flashing the bios and upgrade to an i7 7700 or 7700k (even if I can't overclock), then slap in a gtx 1080. I can find both parts used for cheap around here. Does it make sense? Is there a better way to prolong the life of this old machine? Honestly except for modern gaming and streaming it was still very usable. Thanks!
  6. Is this one any good? Most of the stick I see around $100 have a very high CL unfortunately, around 30 or even 40. Not sure 5600mhz is enough to compensate the loss https://www.amazon.co.jp/PC5-44800-ElitePlus-Compliant-Lifetime-Warranty/dp/B0C4N6QMYG/ref=sxin_17_pa_sp_search_thematic_sspa?content-id=amzn1.sym.0df65407-156e-4799-af6a-5a671213a232%3Aamzn1.sym.0df65407-156e-4799-af6a-5a671213a232&crid=1EYN0I0L6XP0M&cv_ct_cx=ddr5%2Bram&keywords=ddr5%2Bram&pd_rd_i=B0C4N6QMYG&pd_rd_r=1d805308-dbd5-4aad-91b0-2ec21d2eccd4&pd_rd_w=cvCgD&pd_rd_wg=sASks&pf_rd_p=0df65407-156e-4799-af6a-5a671213a232&pf_rd_r=5FHXGJ42Q7AZSKWZYDR2&qid=1698241996&s=computers&sbo=RZvfv%2F%2FHxDF%2BO5021pAnSA%3D%3D&sprefix=ddr5%2Bram%2Ccomputers%2C201&sr=1-1-da6f31b0-247f-4681-997f-ad50aa94c0c8-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9zZWFyY2hfdGhlbWF0aWM&th=1 Or this corsair. A little more expensive but 6400mhz https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/gp/product/B0BPL9VYPW/ref=ewc_pr_img_1?smid=AN1VRQENFRJN5&psc=1
  7. Hm I see. Does it make sense to go ddr5 at this price point? I'd like this pc to last fr some time. It's replacing another i5 from 2016 that still rocks it (but not for streaming). As for the case, the 4000d and 5 antec fans is about $14 more than the rgb version. Thermaltake fans are cheaper, but I can still only get 3 or 4, not 5
  8. Hmm strange pcpartpicker didn't figure that out. Doesn't a DDR5 mobo support DDR4 too?

All prices from Amazon Japan Can I save on anything or improve it at the same cost? Things tend to be pricier here in JP Thanks everyone!
  10. actually the price for the 500gb was 81, similar to the samsung, and I didn't really need 1tb anyway so Also the crucial nvme was not available, only sata m.2
  11. Yeah I think the max it supports is 2666. As for the nvme I noticed both the seagate and WD options were just $5 cheaper given the same capacity. Am I missing something? For just 5 I'd just get the best I can.
  12. Hi everyone, Following up my post about what laptop I could get for 1000 bucks, I got a used lenovo p52 which is pretty decent (core i78750h, non 4k, quadro p1000). I am planning to expand it with an extra 16gb of ram (for a total of 32) and a new nvme drive (comes with a 1tb hdd which I'll use for storage) Are these sticks compatible? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BMMVNL4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 As for the nvme, I was thinking of this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BN4NJ2J/ref=twister_B07CY2RR4Z?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Any concern or better option? Thanks in advance
