Hey, first time poster here!
I recently took possession of my friends previous rig (minus the GPU and his SSD for obvious reasons) with the following specs:
- Intel Core i5-7500
- ARCTIC Freezer 11LP Cooler
- Corsair Vengenance LPX 8GB DDR4-3000 RAM
- Asus Strix B250F Gaming Motherboard
- Corsair CX-500 Non Modular PSU
- NZXT S340 Case
I had a 160GB HDD attached just for the sake of loading Windows onto the system for the moment as well but currently there isn't anything on the drive.
Of course the PC worked previously when he used it (with a GTX 1060 I believe) but when I went to start the thing up for the first time once I got it, nothing happened. None of the fans would spin and there wasn't any kind of LED flashing anywhere on the system beyond the RGB strip at the back and the Standby Power light. I reset the CMOS battery as this has previously helped with other builds for certain issues and the second time I started the system up all of the fans (case and CPU) started to spin at full speed, the hard drive started spinning and yet there was no sign of life still from the thing!
I have tried taking the system out of the case and booting it that way, I've disconnected and reconnected every cable, I tried replacing the RAM with a stick I know works and tried every slot with both sticks, and I even tried reseating the CPU (and also checked the pins on the motherboard which were all fine) yet nothing seems to be working. I tried leaving the system powered on for several minutes and noticed that the CPU does not seem to heat up at all (both it and the CPU cooler were super cold after the many many startups I have attempted; sorry if I hadn't made that clearer!)
I'm hoping someone can either tell me what I've somehow broken and whether I can fix it, or even just suggest other troubleshooting steps to try and find the issue. Thanks for your help in advance! ?
EDIT: Just to cover all the bases I possibly could, I should also mention I successfully used the PSU in my own gaming rig with absolutely no issues powering that, so it's highly unlikely to be PSU related (I hope).
