Eschew reacted to minibois in What is the difference between DP Alt Mode and USB-C/DisplayPort Combo?
Personally I wasn't aware of MST only being relevant for 3+ monitor setups.
But anyways, USB Type C with Displayport inside is DP Alt mode, so It's still a strange way for ASUS to respond.

Eschew reacted to seon123 in Silent Keyboard Recommendation
In my experience, non-silenced switches are not really quiet, so you would likely want silenced switches. The larger keys have stabilisers that produce additional noise, so don't be surprised if you need to add lube to them to make the keyboard quiet, even with silenced switches. The tactile switches on the G915 don't produce more noise than linears, as they use essentially the same mechanism.

From looking on Prisjagt, this is the only keyboard that I found that meets the requirement of under 1000 DKK, full size, and silenced switches.
    https://prisjagt.dk/computere-tilbehor/tastaturer-mus/tastaturer/ducky-dkon1808-one-2-tuxedo-cherry-mx-silent-red-nordic--p5311203

If you want more options for the switches, you could look at the GMMK, although it would be quite a bit above your budget (700 DKK keyboard + 150 DKK keycaps + switches)

Eschew got a reaction from Tech Learner in Mechanical Keyboard Club!
I'd argue that the video's argument was more to suggest several definitions of "mechanical" and to explain why the suggested definitions don't universally apply to all keyboards, rather than the sweeping conclusion of "all keyboards are mechanical."

That aside, there was a very clear intent presented in the video (Timestamp: 12:45):
He advocates to avoid arguing about definitions and semantics, specifically whether something is or isn't mechanical, because they tend to foster prejudices and tend not to lead to very productive discussions. Case and point:
The snippet above leans more towards the argumentative "I'm right, you're wrong" side, rather than a cordial discussion. It seems like exactly the sort of "harm" the video author is advocating against.

Also, I'd like to point out that the video expresses the opinions of one speaker. Their content may be used as a springboard to launch your own thoughts from -- assuming you've understood the full message and genuine intent of the author -- but attempting to use it to strongarm a single person's opinion as a universal truth seems a little irresponsible.

I wouldn't worry about it, "right" and "wrong" definitions aren't relevant to the original question. You asked a follow-up question intending to help someone else out, and that's more commendable than nitpicking semantics.

Eschew reacted to minibois in How do I know negative or positive in a battery power plug?
Look at the charger that came with the scooter, as it can be either center positive or center negative (the latter former being more common). Then you just need to use a multimeter in continuity to test which of these plug(s) is center vs. outside.

For a little context, barrel jack connectors have an inside (center) and outside. A charger can either have the center as the negative or the center as the positive. This is indicated on the charger with one of these graphics: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polarity_symbols
This shows whether negative (black) is the center or if positive (red) is. You use a multimeter to test what part on the back corresponds with what part of the barrel jack.

Eschew reacted to minibois in What is the difference between DP Alt Mode and USB-C/DisplayPort Combo?
Those two things mean the same.
The USB Type C specification is very broad and includes alternative modes ('alt mode'), one of these is Displayport alt mode. That means the USB Type C includes Displayport functionality, so there is no difference between those two things.

The only thing I can think of what is happening is that your laptop is setup so the USB Type C port put out video from its built-in Intel HD Graphics and not the Nvidia graphics card, but even then it should at least output video.
Maybe there is some incompatibility with MST; the technology that allows one Displayport connection (whether through USB Type C or another connector) to output to multiple monitors, but if that is the case, no USB Type C hub for multiple monitors would work.

Maybe you could live with one monitor connected through the dock and the other connected with HDMI to your laptop?

Contact Noctua support, they should get you a replacement shipped out quickly.

In the meantime yeah, go ahead and swap it. Or if your temps are good enough and you have strong front fans, don't even put a fan on it lol. I'm running the D15S on my project PC with no fan for itself, just 2 120mm fans in the front of a Node 804, 1 120 rear. Pulls enough air through to keep a stock 5960X below the 60s.

Do not use vinegar in your loop, pretty sure that'd end horribly. Use either distilled water + a reputable biocide, or a good premix (I use EK Cryofuel Clear usually). @For Science!keeps a list of various coolants and their known ingredients here:

You can flush your rads and blocks if you're worried about them. I don't usually do that on purpose, I just naturally fill and drain the loop a few times when doing leak testing and such.

    Well:
Threadripper is AMD's workstation/HEDT line. It is explicitly called HEDT multiple times and all their marketing is based off high end production workstation use for 3D modeling, film studios, etc.

Confused on where you're drawing that line, as AMD sure doesn't. All their showcase stuff is creative workstation use, and they specifically call it a high-end desktop platform in multiple places: https://www.amd.com/en/products/ryzen-threadripper.

You specifically mentioned Threadripper, which is AMD's Workstation/HEDT platform (EPYC being more server side).
Unless you need more cores, which plenty of people do (it's usually the reason I've seen people buy a 3960X or 3970X, explicitly for the core/thread count).
Bandwidth. There are people who need massive capacity, but even for those using "only" 128-256GB RAM, being able to run above dual channel is very nice.
Not fast enough. I know people who run RAID 0 PCIe 3.0 (and now 4.0) SSDs as a cache drive for photo/video editing, you need the PCIe lanes and slot bifurcation to do that. Some X500 series boards can do the bifurcation, but they haven't the lanes.
There is certainly less need for multiple GPUs now, yes.
Yep. There are tons of people who can use mainstream parts for their work and would gain nothing from going HEDT. My point is that there's still plenty of reason people do still use HEDT, and it's not as niche as y'all seem to think.
Sort of? In some cases? But not categorically. If the answer were simply "offload it to a server 4head" and it was that easy, everyone would be doing it. You need a pretty beefy setup to offload stuff to a server and then process it faster than just a single powerful computer that does it all.

Sounds normal. Depending on the game, it can take a couple seconds to tab out when in fullscreen, and a little longer if you're running a non-native res in fullscreen.

You'll be good. 5600G taps out at around 80W under full load (anandtech's testing), and you can disable PBO + usually there's an ECO mode to pull that even lower if you don't need the higher boost clocks. Under idle it should be much lower. From Reddit it's looking like 25-30W from the wall with a B550 chipset board.

It's not meant for just gaming. The 3090 is a Titan in everything but name. The top-spec card that bridges the gap between enthusiast gaming and the Quadro line.

The 3080 being weirdly low is probably due to their choice to cut the bus so they could shove another SKU between it and the 3090. The 3080 has a 320 bit memory bus, the 3080 Ti and 3090 have the same 384 bit bus.

VRAM bus. And to some extent how different VRAM types have to be stacked (HBM is on-die, GDDR is off-die and needs specifically spaced traces) That's why the amounts are weird.

well we dont know exactly how much airflow the 40 series gpu's are gonna need, but if the last three generations are any indication, it's likely going to need a hefty amount.

A custom mounted 360 AIO to the GPU would solve this issue, but that's a lot of added work, likely voiding most GPU warranty's (expect maybe EVGA?) and at a greater risk of things going wrong in general.

For reference, I've used the O11D in a similar configuration, but I had fans on the bottom.

The 1TB 870 Evo and MX500 are under that price range according to PCPartPicker for the UK, snag either of those. Both good drives, we use a bunch of 860s and 870s at work + a few MX500s, I and my dad have both used the MX500s in our laptops/PCs at home without any issues.
