  1. They do look decent, and the 6 TB drive is even kind of in my price bracket too. How do you suggest powering them?
  2. I've filled up my 2 TB hard drive in my laptop, and due to the nature of the beast I can't really add extra drives, nor do I have a place to shove my data to get a new drive in and repopulate that. So I've decided to go down a debatably more sensible route and build my own nas as cheaply as possible - 3d print my own case for it, use a RasPi 2, 3, or rockpi and put some sort of storage based os on it, like FreeNas. Only thing I'm not cheating out on is the storage, for obvious reasons The plan so far is to use enterprise drives with one for redundancy and plug it into a gigabit unmanaged switch on my desk. I probably don't need high capacity drives, but something more than 8 TB would be excellent if it fits into the budget - which is about £100 to £150 for both hard drives, but preferably cheaper. What drives should I use, And how can I get them as cheaply as possible? How should I power them - just use a sata to usb connector and rely on the pi for power? Because vibration is a problem, how should I dampen it on the frame? Is a redundant power supply worth it, And can it be squeezed in to the budget? Its my first time building a nas and I don't use Linux loads, so there may be stupid questions ahead. Thanks for your time. Edit: just had another look at hard drives on amazon, and it turns out an 8 TB enterprise HHD takes up my whole damn budget, and I'm definitely not going second-hand. Well, shit. Let's not set a concrete budget for now, eh?
  3. only two SATA ports, I think. I'll check next time I shut it down. of the top of my head, I think i have this one: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/P8B75M_LE/
  4. I've got an extra hard drive recently, and would like to plug it in the my main workstation, However, my poor little micro-ATX Board has run out of e-sata plugs, and I'd like some advice going forwards. I have enough power sata cables, its just sata cables for data.
