  1. Hi All, My work PC was only built a couple of months ago, with a Samsung EVO 500gb SSD. I was sure to put all my work files and set download folders to the HDD, with the only things on the SSD being software such as Thunderbird, Chrome, etc. Windows alerted me to my surprise that my memory was full. It states that 429gb is being used by Apps & Features, however when I click on this and sort by size they do not add up to anywhere near this amount. There isn't a single app over 1gb, and only 14 apps over 1mb. (See Pics) Another strange happening, was it said I had around 600mb free. So I deleted 9gb of temporary files, refreshed and now have 300mb free! I am baffled by what could be causing this and am currently unable to do any work. I would highly doubt this sorcery is a from a hardware defect as it is a top quality SSD and I've never even had problems with cheap SSDs before. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  2. Thanks, I figured this might be the only option, but I just couldn't understand why it has worked fine on 2 other build that use the same motherboard, ram and psu
  3. Hello, so a family friend's 14 yr old son asked me to help him build his first pc for gaming. I'm very far from being a pro, but I've built 6 gaming PC's in the past 7 months and not experienced this problem before, so I'm sure some of you guys could share some light on why this is happening. I set up his computer (parts listed below), turned it on and it booted fine. Installed Windows etc etc. Restarted computer so I could enter the Bios, enabled Auto XMP profile for the 3200 mhz RAM, saved and exited. After this, upon reaching the login screen it would blue screen error every time. After 4 attempts, I went back into the Bios, disabled XMP profile, and it works fine again with no blue screen. I don't understand why this is happening, because I have built a very similar rig literally 3 weeks ago, using same motherboard, same ram, same psu, but a Ryzen 5 3400g instead of 3600 + gpu, and had no problem at all. All parts are brand new: Gigabyte B450M DS3H Motherboard with the latest F50 bios update Ryzen 5 3600 CPU Corsair Vengeance LPX 16gb 3200mhz RAM (x2 8gb in dual channel) EVGA 700W Bronze Certified PSU Zotac Nvidia GTX 1660 6gb GPU I have left him with XMP disabled, he would never know the difference as it's his first ever pc, but I told him about this and am not comfortable leaving it un-optimised unlike the other PC's I have build for friends and family recently. Any help much appreciated!
  4. Thanks, that's all I need as my fibre package is around 50-65 mbs download
  5. Tenda Nova MW3-3 Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi System Pack of 3 - £69.99
  6. Thanks, yes I've been looking into them since you first mentioned it
  7. Thanks and yes. It says "Speed: 234.0 mbs" and keeps switching to "Speed: 175.5 mbs" and then back again. 4/5 bars on strength, but everywhere else shows it as 5/5 bars of signal strength
  8. I am looking in the properties of the wifi adapter under network adapters but can't see anything that states connection speed or phy
  9. As mentioned I'm not very literate with broadband/modems so am unfamiliar with the term phy rate, how can I find this out? Thanks
  10. This is an option, and yes it would be accepted, but she isn't a fan of my pc gaming habits in any case so I try to make my life as easy as possible
  11. Full signal when using the WiFi usb adapter on 5ghz but only 20mbs download Don't want to drill holes through walls as rented property Coax, unknown, but I would guess no Haven't heard of mesh wifi system but will look into it thanks Paying for 60mbs download which is what I get using my Phone WiFi on 5ghz channel
  12. I'm sure I could do it when she is out and she wouldn't even notice... but whether it is worth the risk or not haha
  13. Hi all, question on improving my internet speed (I'm not very technologically literate when it comes to broadband/modems etc.) I just moved house and had Super Fibre installed. Using wifi on my phone I pull 60+mbs download and around 20mbs upload as expected for the package I pay for. My computer setup is upstairs, and my better half has blocked me from tapping a 20m ethernet cable all the way through the house and down the stairs can you believe it?!! So currently I am using a TP link powerline system, using ethernet from pc into it, then ethernet out the other end into the modem. This however is only pulling around 20mbs download and 1mbs upload. I took this out and also tried a modern 5ghz TP-Link WiFi USB Adapter, but this was slightly worse still than the powerline setup. My motherboard drivers are up to date. I wonder if maybe a 2.4 ghz wifi adapter would work better going through walls/ceilings than the 5ghz, or if there is a better option than the powerline setup? Any advice appreciated thanks!
  14. Here are some pictures I uploaded after a request from another forum. I have pics of pretty much every test I did with every piece of software so let me know if a different picture might be useful, and maybe I have it! I have contacted the seller asking if he purchased it new, with proof of purchase so I can arrange RMA, but no surprise he has not responded. https://imgur.com/a/Uvpwb7q
  15. I'll definitely bare that in mind for future, that is helpful thanks.
  16. Thanks for the comment. You are right, there's always risk buying used hardware, but you never know someone's reason for their pricing until you take that risk. I've doubled money on a couple of graphics cards in the last month that were working perfectly. I have however learned to only use Paypal in future so you at least have some buyer protection! I couldn't tell you it's original source, as it was purchased used from a private seller.
  17. Hi Guys, I've run many further tests based on your suggestions including testing it in a more high spec rig. I decided it was too much information to post here, so as my last ditch attempt before getting rid of the card I have created a different thread. Take a look!
  18. Hi All, I recently posted about buying a friend a used gtx 1660 6gb that was going cheap ($130/€115/£100) to upgrade his gtx 1060 3gb. I was concerned because not only did we find no improvement on fps, but it was actually performing worse than his 3gb 1060. Just to remind you, here are his specs: i5 7500 3.4GHzAsus H110M-R8gb DDR4 2400MHz in single channelAerocool Integrator 500w psu Here's the UPDATE! I took on board many of your comments and suggestions, such as it could be bottlenecked by the cpu, it could be his bad ram, it could be not getting enough power from the psu etc. So I took my 2070 super out and installed the 1660 in my own rig, to do some further testing where none of those factors should be an issue. My specs are as follows: i5 9600k 3.7GHz MSI Z390-A Pro 16gb DDR4 3200MHz dual channel Corsair RM850w psu The only problem, is that the 1660 is still waaaaaay under performing. Following your suggestions, this is what I did: 1. Use DDU in safe mode to remove all old drivers 2. Install 1660 3. Custom install the latest 1660 driver/PhysX and no other nonsense 4. Checked GPU-Z which reported the card correctly as a 6gb 1660 (I am 99% sure the card is legit), PCIe x16 3.0, correct base clock of 1530mhz and boost clock of 1785mhz 5. Checked Afterburner which reported the same clock speeds, and showing correct idle voltage of 0.775, running at 35c idle 6. Proceeded to benchmark various games and directly compare to his 1060 3gb (in his lower spec rig), using all the same in-game graphic settings as him. These included: - Heaven Unigene benchmark, 1080p ultra settings. His 1060 3gb scored average of 60fps, the 1660 in my 9600k rig scored average of 49fps. - GTA V using the same very high settings, walking a lap around my bunker next to each other. He had an average of 85fps. I had average of 75fps. - Rust, using same low-mid graphic settings, running along the beach next to each other. His 1060 3gb was getting 95fps average, I was getting 90fps average with the 1660. This trend continued in everything we tried. I was monitoring usage/voltage/temps using CPUID HWMonitor for each game and there are a couple of things to note. Clock speeds = normal. Voltage = normal. CPU usage = normal. HOWEVER, despite all this, the 1660 power usage is always at 80% when idle and 100% under load. ALSO, the idle temperature is normal, however under load the temperature is not going above 50c. From my research it should be reaching 70c+ under load, so for some reason it seems to be staying very cool despite it's constant high usage. I don't know if these 2 factors are normal or not, but it surprised me in comparison to my 2070 super which when idle is always less than 20% power usage. I have taken pictures of my monitoring and results, but didn't want to spend ages uploading them all, so let me know if any of them would be particularly useful. Hopefully these updated results and tests might shed some light on what the problem is, as I would be expecting this card to be at least 20% fps boost in comparison to the 1060 3gb. This is the last post I make on this before I just cut my losses and sell it as under-performing on eBay! Thanks in advance!
  19. The back of the card looks legit too. Unfortunately I can't share the score as I put his old gpu back in before leaving his house ?
  20. Hi Guys,I got hold of a used gtx 1660 6gb for a good deal, so I agreed to give it to my friend to upgrade his gtx 1060 3gb.He is running:i5 7500 3.4GHzAsus H110M-R8gb DDR4 2400MHz in single channelAerocool Integrator 500w psuOn paper it should have been a nice upgrade, I couldn't see any reason why it wouldn't give at least a 10-20% fps boost. But after running before and after benchmarks such as Heaven Unigene and R6 Siege in game benchmark the 1660 was performing WORSE, with between 5-10fps less than the 3gb 1060.I knew that there could potentially be some bottlenecking from the cpu, but thought it would still be scoring more overall. There was no freezes or lag spikes, just consistent lower fps.I also know his ram situation is not ideal and I am looking to find him another 8gb to run dual channel as we speak, but as this variable was not changed before and after I don't think it comes into the equation.I used DDU to remove all old drivers and ensured the latest were installed for the 1660. Temperatures were fine, in fact a lot lower for the 1660 which is expected being a newer card. Even checked every source possible (apart from taking the card apart) such as CPU-Z to make sure I wasn't scammed and the card is what it says it is!There's only one thing that I didn't do because I didn't think of it at the time, and that was a bios update. But would that really make the card jump from an average of 50fps in Heaven benchmark on extreme to 80fps? Doubtful.Any advice is greatly appreciated!
  21. Yes, thanks for your help. My main cause of confusion was the command prompt. However it has been brought to my attention that the command he typed was not the one I told him to. It's possible that the command he used could be just asking the DIMMs about their specifications and not their current state. So I guess I will get him to run some more checks such as CPU-Z and using the correct command prompt of: wmic memorychip get speed
  22. Thanks for checking up on this, I was aware that 3200 was the limit for the mobo, but that's what limits are for - pushing! So it should still work. Replies on other forums suggest that everything looks like it is working fine, and it's simply windows being inaccurate at displaying speeds. Will get him to double check in CPU-Z when he is on later.
  23. Hi Guys,Posting this on behalf of my German friend, so sorry about some of the linked pictures being in Deutsch, but you know what you're looking at anyway.Images to reference - https://imgur.com/a/y5t3Hn2He bought Patriot Viper 3200MHz 2x8 Gb as an upgrade from 1 single stick of 8gb Crucial ram.He is using a MSI B350 PRO-VDH AM4 with a Ryzen 5 1400.I'm far from the source of all knowledge when it comes to computers, but compared to me he has no clue. So I told him how to enable his XMP in his bios, which he did. The motherboard even confirms these changes by stating 'DDR Speed 3200' at the top. (See 2 images linked at top)However when he boots into Windows, task manager says 'Memory Speed: 1600'. I wasn't too concerned about this, because obviously DDR means double data, and 1600 x 2 is 3200. Although I still found this strange, because in task manager on my computer it actually states 'Speed: 3200'. (See image linked at top)Finally, I asked him to open is Command Prompt to check his memory speeds, and this reads: 'DIMM 1 1067, DIMM 1 1067'. Again, in my command prompt it shows me 3200, 3200.If anyone could explain to us why this isn't working that would be amazing. Thanks!
