nonamesm3 reacted to Roswell in LTT photoshopping medical disability onto Linus for clickbait... really?!
So here's the deal... I'm not some fragile snowflake, nor do I have said disability. But let's get real, photoshopping a a visual impairment disability onto Linus for laughs and clickbait is of really poor taste.

    This is the condition: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strabismus

You're basically making fun of people that suffer from vision loss and face an enormous amount of insecurity and ridicule in their lives so you can get a few more clicks on your video. Where is the line drawn? Would you guys be comfortable photoshopping Linus as an amputee for more clicks? A quadriplegic?

    Not cool, LMG team.

I'll tell you anyways! it's like discord, fb, dating app, google pay and tons of other stuff in 1 app (and ironically often used to get in contact with outsiders and other stuff the Chinese government doesn't exactly approve)

it's really well made and easy to use, I only used it for a week or so to get some Chinese mods, it was overall a very pleasant experience...

can totally see many people chinese or not using it.

    (I'd give it a 9/10)

That’s the seatbelt argument all over again.

Just because you didn’t get infected doesn’t make it a good idea. You’re definitely welcome to take that risk if you fully understand it - but part of that was luck. Other users might do the same thing and get malware through no fault of their own.

Just like many people go their entire lives with never getting into a car accident. Does that mean you should drive without a seatbelt? Hell
no. That’s a stupid decision. Things can happen outside of your control.

I’m not going to say you *must* update. But it’s a good idea to at least update periodically, even if it’s only once every six months or whatever.

Agreed on all points. Windows bugs DO EXIST. No one is denying that. Sometimes the bugs are massive. Most of the time, even the massive ones only affect a specific subset of users (due to the massive possible combination of system parts, drivers, and software).

The kind of person that is likely to use this kind of custom ISO, is also probably the same kind of person that says "common sense is all the AV you need" - it's just an ignorant statement. Yeah you can run a system without AV and not get viruses. But the argument that common sense will always protect you is just dumb and dangerous to less technical users. Malware has become so much more advanced that many malware infections can happen even through totally legitimate services or websites, or can happen without you even noticing it. I can drive my car and not wear my seatbelt, but I do anyway because you just never know when you'll need it. And when you do need it, it'll be too late.

If you feel that a thread has been locked which shouldn't have been locked, please PM the moderator who locked the post to discuss it further (we will often leave a note stating why it was locked so you will know who locked it, but failing that feel free to contact any of the moderation team which you can view from the Staff page). Alternatively if you aren't expecting a reply and you just want to bring it to the moderation teams attention to take a 2nd look at it and reconsider you can also report the post as "something else" and explain in the report notes why you believe it should be unlocked and the moderation team can review it - You don't need to be the OP to do this either if there's a topic you find interesting and think shouldn't have been locked. We're always happy to give things a second look.

As funny as it was meant to be:
This is actually the exact same thing big companies do,... while people pull out their torches.

People keep jumping on the hate train, when any company "uses their data". The holy data!
Rarely do people think about what the companies actually DO with said data.

Google improves the search engine. Which in turn works better for every user.
Hardware manufacturer improve their products by checking on how they are being used by the different user groups. Which in turn focuses the money on areas that are more important to the customer. Which in turn improves the product for every user.
They both ALSO get more money due to users enjoying their products more. Yes.

So, if LTT is harvesting the forum for Video ideas we get exactly the same situation:
We get better content, since it is based around our behavior. They get more money.
So how is that different to google, VPNs, NVidia, AMD, Intel,... or any other company for that matter?

I personally like companies "harvesting my data", since it leads to better products while I personally have zero downsides to it.
The products are slightly cheaper, slightly better and slightly more how I like them (unless I am using them way different then the masses).

If a company flat out claims to NOT do it, but actually does do it, I am upset due to the lying tho. That goes without saying.
Also, free Software,... give me a break. Nothing is free. People spend time and resources creating the stuff. Someone, somehow IS paying. This may not always be the end user, not always be the end users data,... but there is no free software.

No, when you use Https all your traffic is already encrypted when it leaves your computer and your ISP is not seeing it. They may see the title of the website like linustechtips.com but that's it. They don't see the rest of the address like topic or any information on this site or any other site that uses Https. Just the main address.

These companies are out to make a buck and they do so via scare tactics. For probably 95% of people a vpn isn't needed and spying on you isn't worth the effort to analyze your data.

Even then most sites and services of note are encrypted and you can even use an encrypted dns to hide what you are doing even further.

Now let's look at vpns. Some don't retain user information or some only hold it for a short amount of time, but a lot are holding that data. So you are shifting visibility from your ISP to your VPN provider. Then you have these wonderful things called cookies. That means people like Google can still track you even over vpn unless you take steps to stop it.

If you really want to be anonymous and for the low low cost of free then you can use the TOR network. Now this isn't a great solution for gaming or moving massive amounts of data, but it is a better solution than most VPNs.

Heck you might as well pickup the TOR browser to and discover that the dark web doesn't necessarily mean illegal (though it is used for that too), but actually just means an untracked portion of the web.

If a book store is selling books doesn’t mean that everybody working there agrees with every book. I don’t thing owners of book stores read all their books to make sure they agree with them.

Amazon selling something doesn’t mean that everybody working on Amazon has tried or read the product. Streaming in Twitch doesn’t mean that you has to agree with everything Amazon happens to sell. Working at Twitch doesn’t mean that you agree or need to agree with everything Amazon sells.

A book Amazon sells does not necessarily represent ideas and beliefs of Amazon as a company or ideas or beliefs of its employees

He said that Ickes ideas were eye opening, that he had bought Ickes book and that others should buy it too.

Does it? Openly supporting someone like Icke (I believe there were also other occasions where he talked about others too) on his stream in this day in age is a pretty big deal. I'd imagine Twitch wouldn't want to be seen to be supporting anybody who is preaching that kind of nonsense, especially with everything that's been happening over the last 6 months or so on social media platforms. Fake news and conspiracy theories have become a very contentious topic and all social media platforms have been scrambling to distance themselves from it. Facebook & Twitter have banned lots people over it (including Icke himself). TBH it seems pretty logical that Twitch would remove someone who was telling others to go look into him as quickly as possible. Imagine the headlines, "One of Twitches biggest partners is supporting fake news, Twitch fails to act".

There's been some pretty wild theories & speculation going around over the past few days buts its looking like the actual reason behind his ban is pretty mundane. Remember this is all rumour mill, take with appropriate salt.

Apparently he had been getting quite political on his stream and he had also started to talk about conspiracy nut jobs openly on his stream. Apparently Twitch had asked him to stop and apparently he refused. The day before his ban he was talking about conservative politics and conspiracy theories and apparently that was enough for Twitch to pull the plug. If you notice the first topic he talked about after seeing the text on his phone was David Icke, the guy responsible for the "Coronavirus is caused by 5G" claims, almost as a last fuck you to Twitch.

The rumour is he has hired a legal team and is looking into suing Twitch for a breach of contract. Twitch apparently have no intention of releasing a public statement but if legal action is taken (depends on if his lawyers think he has a case or not) then it will be made public eventually. If not then we might not ever find out the reason for sure.

TBH anybody openly supporting David Icke should be removed from public forums, especially one with access to such a large audience. Assuming that is the reason why then good job to Twitch for putting their audience above their bank balance.
