I've also got my 6800 XT 2nd hand and was worried I'll get scammed. Card has the worst coil whine I've ever heard but it otherwise works fine so far (since May).

It was worth the try, I still get the artifacts on timespy. I checked with Afterburner and the memory is supposed to be running at 1900 (950). I guess I will just install my 3060 again and feel sad that I got scammed.

    Yes the memory timing control.
But change memory clock to 975 not 1075

    Edit:
Ah I missed that DPM3 is 975MHz, should be fine then

You'll have to do it with MPT then.
You'll have to extract the GPU BIOS file with GPU-Z then load it into MPT.

After you'll get all kinds of settings to tweak like SOC, VRAM voltages and clocks, etc...

Default memory speed is 1000MHz (2000MHz reported in AMD software is the effective speed because Double Data Rate so x2).

Change the memory speed in MPT to 975MHz and save settings by clicking Write SPPT and you'll need to restart PC for changes to apply.

(You can also try changing the Memory Timings value from 1 to 0 which should result in very loose timings).

These settings don't actually overwrite the cards BIOS and any changes you make in MPT will disappear once you reinstall drivers.
Just don't increase voltages and you can't brick the card.

Yeah, I think his testing methodology itself was flawless, I just find the scope weird. If you want to point out throttling in Blender, that's perfectly fine, but I'd also prefer to see some actual game performance. Then the conclusion could be "Buy this if you only want to game, but avoid this if you need to do heavy CPU rendering on the side". Most of the people that I would refer to review channels online are mostly just gamers, not people educated enough to draw their own conclusions.

While I personally water cool all my stuff, I don't see pairing a 5600X with a stock cooler as a bad thing. Steve mentioned in video that it is a 65w processor, and the AMD stealth cooler (assuming that is what it was based on pictures/video) is rated for 65W. The fact that it maintained a 300mhz boost on that stock cooler under Blender is impressive by itself, lol.

I am assuming Steve would tell people to refer to the 3060 review if they want gaming performance, but if the throttling is such a concern, I'd like to see that explored in the video itself, especially since the title of the video also refers to the system as a Gaming PC. Would have also been great to see if the extra $20 he spent on the replaced cooler improved FPS and if so, by how much? Would help inform buyers that paying X percentage more results in Y percentage performance boost.

I'm equally amused that so many here find a differing opinion equal to a lack of understanding - "you can't have watched the whole thing" or "go watch more than 5mins".

In summary of the GN Video:
LMG is rushing too much, creating mistakes - Weak opinion. ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking is far more detailed than either GN or LTT. Does that make AHO "better"? Debatable. LMG employees agree - Sure... snippets to try and prove a point. How many LMG employees would go work for Steve/GN? Employees may not think it's perfect, but clearly agree with the ethos, else wouldn't still be working for the company year after year This isn't Drama - No Steve, it really is. And he loves the drama, which is why he goes in for it again & again Bad data - Sure, and as previously stated not a problem in itself. Corrections are made, and just because they don't meet Steve's 'self-imposed' standards, doesn't mean they're not acceptable corrections. Poor editorial QC is all this part of the GN proves, unworthy of the 45min rant CPU Coolers - GN cherry-picking data to shout about how they do superior quality testing, and have superior methodology PSU Error - a literal typo? Weak argument there from GN Asterisk Errors - This is a video, if you can't read the text, don't believe everything you hear. You don't have to 'cut it' or 'correct it in video'. That's what Steve would do, that's not what EVERYONE has to do. Supremely arrogant attitude from Steve. Ethical Concerns, Irresponsible actions - All about Framework & Noctua. This is a complete non-issue. The framework investment is mentioned repeatedly, and Noctua were an LMG favourite well before the screwdriver, so why the big deal? Not everyone has to follow Steve's 'Ethical Guidelines'.  Ethical Concerns, Billet Labs - Reeks of a story told from a 1-sided point of view, with cherry-picked comments. Was the review sloppy? Yes. Did it harm the business of Billet Labs? Definitely not. Being exposed to tens of millions of people is no bad thing, and anyone taking a YT video as gospel is frankly deluded. Ethical Concerns, Pwnage Mouse - The most valid argument of the video, but hardly work a 3/4 hour rant. Again, I doubt Pwnage suffered at all from this huge exposure. Unacceptable & disturbing community - Steve knows he's going to get heat from this latest cry for attention, so tries to get ahead of any criticism. The only disturbing aspect to the GN video, is Steve's worrying lack of editorial direction, if he thinks this kind of content is going to do him any favours in the long run. Unfair to everyone - Nope. LMG has done wonders for the tech industry, and to suggest otherwise is folly. GN thinks it's an editorial, scientific review journal. LMG IS an entertainment outfit. At least LMG knows what it is.

Having just rewatched the coverage of the Billet Labs cooler in this context honestly I think LTT isn't that bad here. Obviously if they were supposed to return the block and auctioned it off instead that's pretty awful, but in terms of what they said about the product I think it was a fair take. Testing with the 3090TI would have been better, but probably won't actually affect the purchasing decision of anyone who would buy that thing.

I watch pretty much every video uploaded by GN and LMG. GN is mostly for reviews and LMG is mostly for entertainment. There is plenty of crossover with news etc. but that's the main categories, for me anyway.

My (totally parasocial) take is that Linus and Steve's relationship fully broke down during their public dispute over 3070ti pricing a few years back. I'm sure the subsequent ramping up of the LTT lab and such things as the PSU tester didn't help the relationship either.
During the "trust me bro" debacle, Steve announced he had decided to review LMG content and products differently and hold them to a higher standard. I'm not sure what the threshold was, earnings, employees or maybe a gut feeling, but it was certainly self-imposed by Steve.

Just to be clear, I feel Linus handled "trust me bro" terribly. To this day, he suggests that even those who didn't know him or the company were basically stupid if they couldn't deduce they were covered. I don't know if it's manipulation or if he genuinely believes it, either way it was handled very badly.

I also believe GN's handling of their recent recall was bad. It was more of a pat on the back and showcase on how well they handled it rather than cold hard facts. Ironic when you think how much Steve hates other companies marketing. The whole video didn't even make it clear if a refund was available. Sticker and a pin? I also think an incorrect wiring diagram can potentially do a lot more damage than a faulty zip puller. I can't find the video now either, has it been pulled?

Anyway, there are many valid points made in the video. Also, some very serious allegations (Billet Labs) that will need to be addressed and (unlike many others here) I'll decide after hearing the other side of the story. Unfortunately, there is also plenty of supposition from Steve. Assumptions about sponsor relationships and employee ties to previous companies. Company valuations etc. that are not offered for any other YT channel reviews. In fact, GN don't review other channels or more accurately; they don't review competitors at all, except for LMG.

I also really hate the way Steve cuts in the reactions of Luke. This was done during "trust me bro" too... "you can see Luke agrees". How does he know what he's thinking, it's pretty poor journalism and seems like petty playground behaviour. I think Steve's bias is showing and there is far more opinion, speculation, and sensationism than any previous topic they have covered.

I hate to break it to you, but all tech journalism has plenty of factual errors, especially those that go for the video format. To avoid falling into the what-aboutism category, let me just say that as someone who works in related industries, GN has plenty of bad takes as well, the difference being that they're not nearly as good about going "my bad". LTT doesn't get needlessly defensive over the fact that they make errors, and they often include the bad takes in videos with corrections, which I appreciate because it does tend to show the initial genuine reaction - something which is useful for myself as someone that's tangentially related with product design on various occasions. This is far more useful than a boring line that might get missed from my point of view.

I would imagine it's actually more than 500 USD, having an actual person with some training and a college/university degree work in a building tends to cost around $90-100 an hour. So you need someone doing the work, someone on the camera, someone doing sound, and preferably some sort of director present, so the shoot alone would probably end up costing around $2000, if you then need to manufacture a new mounting bracket, etc. you could easily lose an entire day and now you're looking at somewhere around $4000 to $5000. It also doesn't account for the fact that you might have a deal with sponsors that require the video to come out on a certain date, availability of working and recording spaces, etc.; which is to say that I understand not wanting to do another take. But it's indicative of general communication problems between billet labs and LTT, which compounds further with the block being sold at auction. The real question is how they respond after the screw up becomes known. I experienced this type of communication breakdown at both small start-ups and multi-billion dollar corporations, so I can totally see it happening at LTT as well.

Accuracy of information is actually my main grievance with Gamers Nexus. Every time they dove into electronics manufacturing I just cringed and wanted to start bashing my head on my desk to make it stop.

Asking the manufacturer for input when you have unexpected results is quite desirable when dealing with complex and new products, it's quite possible a single setting could make all the difference in the world. I just wish this would be done consistently across all products if unexpected results pop up.

I wouldn't be surprised if the recent increase in error rate is caused by the large volume intake of new employees.

There won't be a big WAN Show segment about this or anything. Most of what I have to say, I've already said, and I've done so privately.

To Steve, I expressed my disappointment that he didn't go through proper journalistic practices in creating this piece. He has my email and number (along with numerous other members of our team) and could have asked me for context that may have proven to be valuable (like the fact that we didn't 'sell' the monoblock, but rather auctioned it for charity due to a miscommunication... AND the fact that while we haven't sent payment yet, we have already agreed to compensate Billet Labs for the cost of their prototype). There are other issues, but I've told him that I won't be drawn into a public sniping match over this and that I'll be continuing to move forward in good faith as part of 'Team Media'. When/if he's ready to do so again I'll be ready.

To my team (and my CEO's team, but realistically I was at the helm for all of these errors, so I need to own it), I stressed the importance of diligence in our work because there are so many eyes on us. We are going through some growing pains - we've been very public about them in the interest of transparency - and it's clear we have some work to do on internal processes and communication. We have already been doing a lot of work internally to clean up our processes, but these things take time. Rome wasn't built in a day, but that's no excuse for sloppiness.

Now, for my community, all I can say is the same things I always say. We know that we're not perfect. We wear our imperfection on our sleeves in the interest of ensuring that we stay accountable to you. But it's sad and unfortunate when this transparency gets warped into a bad thing. The Labs team is hard at work hard creating processes and tools to generate data that will benefit all consumers - a work in progress that is very much not done and that we've communicated needs to be treated as such. Do we have notes under some videos? Yes. Is it because we are striving for transparency/improvement? Yeah... What we're doing hasn't been in many years, if ever.. and we would make a much larger correction if the circumstances merited it. Listing the wrong amount of cache on a table for a CPU review is sloppy, but given that our conclusions are drawn based on our testing, not the spec sheet, it doesn't materially change the recommendation. That doesn't mean these things don't matter. We've set KPIs for our writing/labs team around accuracy, and we are continually installing new checks and balances to ensure that things continue to get better. If you haven't seen the improvement, frankly I wonder if you're really looking for it... The thoroughness that we managed on our last handful of GPU videos is getting really incredible given the limited time we have for these embargoes. I'm REALLY excited about what the future will hold.

With all of that said, I still disagree that the Billet Labs video (not the situation with the return, which I've already addressed above) is an 'accuracy' issue. It's more like I just read the room wrong. We COULD have re-tested it with perfect accuracy, but to do so PROPERLY - accounting for which cases it could be installed in (none) and which radiators it would be plumbed with (again... mystery) would have been impossible... and also didn't affect the conclusion of the video... OR SO I THOUGHT...

I wanted to evaluate it as a product, and as a product, IF it could manage to compete with the temperatures of the highest end blocks on the planet, it still wouldn't make sense to buy... so from my point of view, re-testing it and finding out that yes, it did in fact run cooler made no difference to the conclusion, so it didn't really make a difference.

Adam and I were talking about this today. He advocated for re-testing it regardless of how non-viable it was as a product at the time and I think he expressed really well today why it mattered. It was like making a video about a supercar. It doesn't mater if no one watching will buy it. They just wanna see it rip.  I missed that, but it wasn't because I didn't care about the consumer.. it was because I was so focused on how this product impacted a potential buyer. Either way, clearly my bad, but my intention was never to harm Billet Labs. I specifically called out their incredible machining skills because I wanted to see them create something with a viable market for it and was hoping others would appreciate the fineness of the craftsmanship even if the product was impractical. I still hope they move forward building something else because they obviously have talent and I've watched countless niche water cooling vendors come and go. It's an astonishingly unforgiving market.

Either way, I'm sorry I got the community's priorities mixed-up on this one, and that we didn't show the Billet in the best light. Our intention wasn't to hurt anyone. We wanted no one to buy it (because it's an egregious waste of money no matter what temps it runs at) and we wanted Billet to make something marketable (so they can, y'know, eat).

With all of this in mind, it saddens me how quickly the pitchforks were raised over this. It also comes across a touch hypocritical when some basic due diligence could have helped clarify much of it. I have a LONG history of meeting issues head on and I've never been afraid to answer questions, which lands me in hot water regularly, but helps keep me in tune with my peers and with the community. The only reason I can think of not to ask me is because my honest response might be inconvenient.

We can test that... with this post. Will the "It was a mistake (a bad one, but a mistake) and they're taking care of it" reality manage to have the same reach? Let's see if anyone actually wants to know what happened. I hope so, but it's been disheartening seeing how many people were willing to jump on us here. Believe it or not, I'm a real person and so is the rest of my team. We are trying our best, and if what we were doing was easy, everyone would do it. Today sucks.

    Thanks for reading this.

Had the same issue of Adrenalin tuning settings resetting. Tried disabling sleep mode that was suggested online, but that did not stop it. I would cold boot my PC in the morning, and checking Adrenaline right away I would still see the reset message sometimes..

Then saw a post about disabling Fast Startup in Windows 10, and I added that as well. It worked for me, no more Adrenalin Software resets.

Made the change in March, AND ZERO software resets since then. I even wonder if the Windows "Fast Startup" was corrupting the recovery from sleep mode??  And maybe I should enable sleep mode again... But there seem to be legit reports, articles stating that there is something not right with C states/sleep mode.   - So I'll leave sleep mode disabled, I usually follow the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mantra.

Likely you pushed too hard with undervolt but yeah it depends on luck. My 6800xt can reach 1035mV and still going well after 2.5 years. Once you find your sweetspot for undervolting, you can lower more core speed (as it also further drops max voltage) until reaching desired power output.

My first guess would simply be silicon lottery. Running out of spec, whether that is over or under, is always a gamble. It seems you need to either reign it in further to be stable at that voltage or accept a higher voltage if you want the higher clocks.

Undervolting is exactly like overclocking.  Its not a guarantee that it will be stable at any settings other than stock.
Doubt the GPU has degraded that fast, its a relatively new product.  You say yourself that it works fine with default settings, what is the reason for wanting to undervolt it?  Are the temps bad?

Thanks for the time you took to write this. I appreciate your insight in the topic. I have personally owned Asrock and MSI AM4 boards. They all have minor issues, that's to be expected on budget parts, for sure. I also have built with B450 Arous M boards for my family, but they are a bit on the pricey side right now on my country. I know they work fine with R5 3600, fine enough to the point I have never had to give them tech support.

Furthermore, I was wondering if it would be worth it to pay more money for the TUF branded B450M, VRM sucks on all of them, but maybe the feature set would justify paying more. And also, looks play a small part in the decision-making.

I'll wait for a few days and see if they re-stock B450M motherboards and look if there's anything better. DS3H and Aourus M are into consideration for the moment.

Absolutely, you should not go off of marketing for anything. Real world tests by independent reviewers should be the standard you go off of.
However, in the entry level mother board space, Gigabyte does appear to have more of a focus on the durability, stability, and longevity of their boards. An example would be the use of thicker copper layers in printed circuits, and pretty solid capacitors from Japan (something that can only be said for a select few entry level boards).

I think this applies to all their boards, so the DS3H series is really just an "alphabet soup" made to sell stuff to you. (I'm not saying it's a bad board but, you know, marketing shenanigans)
Something like the Gigabyte B450 AORUS M might actually bet a better board for the price (assuming you don't mind buying from NewEgg): https://pcpartpicker.com/product/WcjJ7P/gigabyte-b450-aorus-m-micro-atx-am4-motherboard-b450-aorus-m
Ultimately, get what best suits your needs for the price range. Asus, Gigabyte, Asrock, MSi, and even Biostar have all made excellent boards. Asus, Gigabyte, Asrock, MSi, and especially Biostar have made boards that are nothing short of a fire hazard.
The experience that I shared is, yes, "entirely anecdotal". However, so are most reviews you are going to find. Unfortunately, I can not offer hard evidence that any motherboard is going to work perfectly. However, I can say that two out of the five* new Asus motherboards I have used have given me major to minor issues. Zero out of the four** motherboards I have used from Gigabyte (including a DS3H series board) have failed or had even a minor issue. To be clear, I will still probably buy Asus motherboards. The main question should be, "what is the best price to reliability and feature-set available?"
