Both first gen devices from Oculus and Vive share the exact same specs IIRC.  Same resolution and refresh rates.  Refresh rates are a major concern, as the PS4 VR only does 60hz and that's....not enough for VR.

The sensors on the quest are great, and don't require external sensors if you're doing the wireless thing.  I don't know about the wired usage of that though, it's pretty new functionality for it.

None of these headsets eliminate the screendoor effect.  You'll need to go quite a bit higher resolution for that to happen, and for once it isn't the GPU tech that's holding it back, it's the display cable bandwidth.

    1. It has both with a new update, it's firstly a wireless device powered by a mobile processor in the headset, but it can now also be connected to the PC.
    2. Yes it's still going on but there's various workarounds for most of them, and they're all collected in a community spreadsheet that gets updated frequently.
    3. Sensors are a must, and 2 is the minimum recommended.
    4. CV1 is still viable, but IIRC it's a bit lower res etc Just get a Rift 2nd hand, that's what I use.

Just pull the tab backwards ("up" in the reference frame of the picture) as you pull out the card. They are really annoying, but not dangerous. Some tweezers or a screwdriver might help.

This is actually nice compared to the sliding locks that need to be pulled backwards to unlock. Those are luck based.

nightmarevoid reacted to Donut417 in Educate me on Plex please
Shortcomings wise plex doesnt run well on all streaming devices. Up til recently the Live TV functionality ran like dog shit on Fire Sticks. Strength wise it can transcode on the fly and Plex is very versitle when it comes to setups. I for example store all my media on a NAS and use an old desktop for transcoding.  My Plex setup runs on Ubutnu current LTS release. Runs fine, I havent had issues unlike when I ran it on Windows 10. Just the setup on Linux might be a bit more invovled.  Plex could pretty much give two fucks where you storage is. It can be internal or extenral.  Transcoding is based on what streaming devcies you using. Prime example, I have the Plex Pass which allows me to do the Live TV recording. OTA TV is done in MPEG2. My firestick has no issues, the two Roku sticks in our home wont do MPEG2, so it will transcode if eaiter or both of those devcies are being used with Live TV. Further more, Plex pass also gives you Hardware Transcoding. Depends on your hardware you can utilize that or just do sofware transcoding. To be clear, hardware transcoding happens on the GPU side, but it only does VIDEO, Audio will still transcode via your CPU. All my media besides live TV are in MKV format. But thats because all my devcies support MKV.  Keywords here. Make MKV and Handbreak. Those two pieces of software will help you out.  I only deal with DVD's at the moment. I think make MKV can do Bluray, but it might be hit or miss. Just be aware that blurays are probably going to be about 25-50 gigs if you want full quality.  The first step should be looking at the devices you want to stream to. Determine what video/audo formats they support. Next would be to rip your media in to that said formats. Keep in mind that if your device doesnt support the resolution that the video file is in, it will have to transcode that file as well. So its good practice that if you do 4K videos, that you also maybe do a 1080P version to keep for devcies that dont support 4K.

I feel like I'm pretty much alone in this regard. I've been using digital assistants for as long as I've been able, mostly because I find it fascinating how close we can get to approximating our own interactions, and whether or not there's a point where assistants will have to deviate to continue being efficiently helpful.
    But you know what? A lot of people are super mean to them! ;_;

I was raised to be polite at all times, and the boyscouts really cemented this ideology in me. Terminator and The Matrix helped me figure out why I should apply that to Digital Assistants. I don't really get frustrated with them because I know they are nothing more than a system of inputs and outputs, capable of little more than comparing lists of commands. Yet, I see a lot of people getting super frustrated with them and shouting profanities at them. My own girlfriend is guilty of this, which is why I have to quickly mute the self-checkout assistant as soon as we start checking out. Her father has wired the whole house to be controlled with Alexa, but both her and her father get really annoyed by it and behave very rudely to it, and I see many other people doing this as well.

What makes me uncomfortable and worries me is how this behavior may reflect onto people. Yeah, digital assistants aren't going to fight back or acknowledge your rudeness in any way, but what about people? I'm really worried that this trend will eventually lead to people being rude to human assistants and workers. I also feel bad for the people who put a genuinely high amount of effort into making these devices, and being so dismissive and rude to it feels like treating those people the same way. Does anyone else feel this way?

nightmarevoid got a reaction from Sauron in Doom 2016 hangs up when on loading screens, Ctrl+Alt+Del fixes it
Actually, Paging seems to be the answer! After reading you're comment I remembered that the last time Doom was acting like this was when I first got the game, and that was because I had disabled Paging. The game seems to throw a hissy fit when you do this. I tested this by reducing virtual texture paging size to low, and this fixed the issue of the game dropping frames in large areas. Telling the game to suck it up and fit as much onto the RAM as possible also made gun textures load in faster while switching weapons. That being said, increasing the paging file size on my system drive and enabling it on the external SSD only netted me an extra 10 frames or so, which leads me to believe that paging on an NVME SSD still isn't fast enough and the answer to my problems is more system RAM. I'll add that to my Christmas list. In the meantime setting VTP to medium gives me a good compromise of texture quantity to speed. Thanks for your help Sauron! Good luck finding the one ring and all that.

nightmarevoid got a reaction from iM8Pizza in HDD beep of death (read head) how to recover?
I built a computer for a friend a while ago (the hackintosh if anyone remembers me) and during the process she gave me an old Seagate drive from another computer and asked me to install windows on it for dual boot. So I installed windows and made an exfat partition so she could trade files between her mac and windows OS partitons.

Now that old drive has the read-head beep of death, and the data isn't accessible. It does still show up as a drive, though. I feel like the right recovery software could get the data off. It's all of her artwork from the last year, and more importantly her memes. If nothing works I'll tell her to send it to a recovery company, but for now what are all of your suggestions?

Okay let's start opening this can of worms. You say "Yay two party system" That is because you and others have dictated it has to be that way over and over again. You want to discuss issues with politics, that is the start right there. Because Gary Johnson isn't so far left or right he doesn't get a chance to be heard by people because the media refuse to thanks to the GOP and DNC paying them to shun him from any spotlight unless it is negative. So right off the bat the issue with your entire length of coherent argument is based on the far left and far right buying away elections.
Next to discuss the accomplishments of Hillary. Hillary Clinton has indeed been in politics, for my entire life and millions of others. You can see them here (https://www.reddit.com/r/hillaryclinton/comments/434dyn/somebody_posted_up_a_great_list_of_hillarys/) however a few of them are debatable. For example, she had no role in Osama Bin Laden's death. She did not help push it forward or make critical choices. No politician did. The United States Armed Forces did that. She also says she stood with George W. Bush and worked with him and he gave her whatever she needed to get the aid that they wanted for the 9/11 first responders health care. During the time in politics she has quite a few scandals as well (http://www.wnd.com/2015/05/here-they-are-hillarys-22-biggest-scandals-ever/). She has criticized the Bush administration for going to war in Iraq. Yet she voted yes to go to war with Iraq (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_Resolution list of all democrats who voted yes), then says she didn't support that. So there is all that to review.
You want to bring up law school as a major achievement for Hillary. The issue is that people choose not to go to law school because of the expense. I would have gone to Law school, but I instead chose the Army and then IT. It's a choice on your career path. To say "Could you do it?" is intellectually dishonest in this discussion. You are trying to put people down for choosing not to go to law school. That their career choice is not as meaningful as a politicians. It's in poor taste to use that as a debate method. Because just as easily someone could say "Could you pass Business school and make a billion dollar corporation like Trump?" see it means nothing.
Next, and this is something that is so annoying because it shows that you did not research well on the gun laws issue. It is not a matter of Clinton wants to take away "Automatic weapons" and Trump doesn't. It is that Clinton wants to take away "Assault rifles" when they don't even know what the hell an assault rifle is! EVERYONE ON THE PLANET DO RESEARCH. An AR-15 is not an assault rifle. You can bring up the statistics and you will see Handguns are the most used gun in gun on gun violence, but no one is going after those. No one goes after shotguns either. Nope, just rifles. Because people are not educated on the subject matter. You can also look at the statistics and you will see gun violence has actually gone down over the years (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bsidht3X6kI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IULSD8VwXEs)
All links I have provided have further and additional sources to back everything I have stated. The issue is neither Hillary nor Donald are fit to be president. Hillary has been in politics for 30 years and she has far too many scandals and too many skeletons in the closet. She has been caught by her own party lying through the teeth and proves that she only has self interest. Trump is just not meant for the position of President. Flat out. Presidency is the largest responsibility in this nation. You need to be a highly intelligent individual who knows what the hell is going on with the people. In my opinion Gary Johnson knows that the American people need to be focused on. Not the rest of the world. The rest of the world needs to figure things out on its own and we need to figure out what the hell is going on here. Nation is extremely divided. We have terrorist groups popping up around the nation, lootings, riots, etc. There needs to be a dynamic shift of focus to us as people, and not the government.
    Have a good day.

Honestly it looks cool, but it doesn't look like call of duty. It really does look like Halo or Titanfall, and this is coming from a die-hard Halo fan, so I know the series too well. If the game weren't called Call of Duty and featured a completely revamped combat/leveling/equipment system, I would be curious and buy it. As it stands though, it's just another great way of dying fast while a thirteen year old talks about how he banged your mom, only now your corpse floats away in space.

nightmarevoid got a reaction from Gall Cohen in 1080p Ultrawide vs 1440p, pros and cons?
I'm currently running an asus 1080P ultrawide and here was my reasoning:
The 1080P resolution means that older games and such will have an easier time scaling to it. Also, my system is relatively underpowered for 1440P (gtx 780 3GB) and By going 1080P vertical I would still be able to play new titles at max graphics and a good frame rate. Finally, I only had a limited space, and ultrawides tend to take up a lot of it. with a smaller monitor and a higher resolution, text would also be smaller, and I just don't think windows scales well enough over 1080P to make the monitor usable for productivity. So I use an ultrawide 1080P monitor because I can still game without buying a new graphics card, I can read text better, it fits better for smaller monitors, and I can still snap lots of windows side by side for working on science labs.

Of course, your circumstances will be different from mine, and perhaps you could get a larger monitor to make it more viable, but I hope my input helps.

Give them a little poke in the right direction when they should be spinning. If they start spinning immediately to what seems like the correct speed then it is a mechanical issue and could potentially be fixed. If they don't start spinning it is either dead fans or BIOS issue, either of which you don't want to deal with and you should just wait to be able to RMA as soon as possible.
