  1. Went looking for UV bulbs for the lab I work in, and stumbled upon a new hot product: Ozone UV-C bulbs. The claim is that UV bulbs with a short wavelength of around 185 nm will produce ozone in the air to help in sanitation. People say they produce enough to smell. I don't exactly buy it though. Charged plate ozone generators take hundreds of watts, but people saying these 35 watt bulbs are comparable. Many of the products on amazon also have the trademark dark brackets in the description that are often used on cheap fast Asian products. One really weird thing was a review on one of these products that [puts on tinfoil hat] is from October 2019, but talks about how they aren't taking chances with this virus scare WAY before Covid-19 became globally known. https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R2KI2N0JD84AN2/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_rvw_btm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B07RQTKY4C#wasThisHelpful So yeah, I understand how physics of light emission and chemical bonds works, but this seems pretty fishy. Any thoughts?
  2. It goes between the radiator and the case in my application. This way the radiator will be lifted away from the case, giving the plugs more room. I'm also replacing one of the plugs with one that has a silver rod attached for fighting microbes.
  3. I actually found these, which are rubber foam gaskets for radiators. I think they will give me the clearance I need. I bought the 5mm thick one, but there's also a 10mm thick option. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ATFZYVG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ATFZZAG/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B00ATFZZAG&pd_rd_w=YTU5T&pf_rd_p=48d372c1-f7e1-4b8b-9d02-4bd86f5158c5&pd_rd_wg=Ua7RP&pf_rd_r=4EY2F0X7SNP9KDF2VCVJ&pd_rd_r=eb5142ca-c665-4463-907e-518e3e7ed3f8&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzVFVYUlpGT1EzUFYyJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMzkzMDk5MTBKSTNVSUMwNlU5RyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMDI1MDM5QlRFQ1g3STg1UzlHJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfZGV0YWlsJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
  4. I bought an Alphacool XT45 to fit in my Phanteks Evolv Shift Air, but the plugs for two of the ports contact the frame. In fact, any plug that protrudes from the radiator will interfere with the chassis. Seems like kind of a design flaw since push/pull configs are the only ones that wouldn't have this problem in any chassis. Anyways, does anyone make a plug that doesn't protrude from the bung, or barely protrudes? I feel like the answer is no, but thought I'd ask anyways. for anyone wondering, this is the radiator. Imagine that it has bungs on every side of the inlet.
  5. Hello all. I have a phanteks Evolv shift air case which has the CPU cooler pulling fresh air from outside through the mesh side panel. However, I don't think my AMD wraith prism cooler can actually keep up with the 3700x. The fan is constantly ramping up and down regardless of what I do in asus FanXpert (fan smoothing up/down helps with idle tasks somewhat, but not gaming), and idle sits at around 55-60 C. This leads me to believe that I need a water cooler for more thermal mass. I'm interested in using more of the products offered by Phanteks (they seem to really know my style lol) Specifically, I wanted to get the Phanteks Glacier C360a which uses a copper water block with nickel plating. I can't really find a radiator that says it uses coper plating internally. Should I just go with a full copper radiator because the copper under the nickel inside of the CPU block will stop the nickel from wanting to deposit inside the radiator (or visa versa)? I can only fit a single 120mm radiator (bottom) unless I switch to a silverstone low profile fan and thin radiator on the right, but where's the RGB fun in that? currently I have thermaltake pure 12 ARGB fans in the case, which are more on the high airflow side of things. Will these work with a thick radiator? would doubling them up help? (I have a spare). I also wanted to use a Phanteks Glacier R220C reservoir paired with an Alphacool DDC310 pump. There's not much here, just wandering if someone has a better idea for the pump or something (the pump fits into the reservoir so it needs to be DDC.) Once I have these components + your radiator recommendation and can see how they fit, I'll get tubing and fittings.
  6. I tried a different cable and the modem has stayed in gigabit mode for over 24 hours. So everyone who said it was the cable wins!
  7. Blink twice if you're being forced to post against your will
  8. I have the 200MB plan from Xfinity. As far as the cable goes, as far as I know it's a regular Cat 5.e cable. That being said I have no idea what the health of the cable is. I just found it at work wrapped up behind the server cabinet and took it with me so it wouldn't be tossed in landfill. For all I know it was there because it was broken.
  9. If I fully power cycle the router, the modem will be Blue for a while and then switch to amber and stay on amber.
  10. Hello everyone. I just moved and was lucky enough to get a free modem and router. The modem is a Motorola Surfboard SB6120 and the router is a WNDR3800 and I'm using Xfinity for my provider. Not exactly cutting edge, but for two people and a minecraft server it's more than enough imo. The issue I keep running into is that for some reason the modem keeps switching from gigabit connection to the router (blue LINK led) to 100MB (amber LINK led). I realize that at a max of 160MB I'm not losing a whole lot but it's still really annoying. I've tried updating my router firmware to no avail, and there doesn't seem to be a setting to force gigabit connection. Does anyone have some advice? Spec sheet for the modem and router: https://www.cnet.com/products/motorola-surfboard-sb6120-cable-modem/ https://www.cnet.com/products/netgear-wndr3800-premium-edition-wireless-router-802-11-a-b-g-n-desktop-series/
  11. well the controller has a 4 pin port on the side, which I think this goes to!
  12. I don't think you are looking at the right link. I'm not buying the water cooling kit (wouldn't fit anyways) I'm just looking at the waterblock, which is copper with nickel plating on the CPU side.
  13. I want to upgrade my girlfriends computer to a custom loop so we don't have to waste an AIO the next time it starts to fail. She already has TT RGB Pure Plus fans that comes with a USB RGB controller because her Z97 motherboard is from before built in RGB controllers. Does anyone know if the Pacify Plus waterblock is compatible with the RGB Plus controller she already has? here's a link to it the water block and the fans: Thermaltake Pacify Plus water block RGB Plus fans w/ controller advice here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  14. I'm looking for a camera that can be wirelessly accessed from any computer using file explorer as if it were a network drive. I tried the Canon ELPH190IS, but the direct wifi connection is actually an application, except that application doesn't actually work anymore, except the replacement is to upload images to the canon cloud and then download them onto one specific PC Does anyone know of a camera with this functionality? Ideally it would be cheap as we are using it in a lab to take images of samples and not for anything professional. Thanks for any advice.
  15. I don't know how, but the problem is fixed. I used Run to run wsreset.exe which clears the store cache I clicked the X next to the failed downloads in the "my apps" section of the microsoft store to cancel the download and uninstall the game packages. I installed all pending updates I restarted my computer When I went back to the xbox app to install MCC it actually started installing this time. Honestly, idk.
  16. I'm not really sure how to describe this. I wanted to uninstall MCC and reinstall it on my hard disk because I didn't think I was getting any benefit from having it on my small SSD, so I uninstalled it. At this point Xbox (beta) crashed and the window went gray, the same color as the background. I gave it about 10 min, which I figured was enough time for it to either respond or finish what it was doing in the background before I closed the window. When I opened it back up, the icon for halo MCC was still there, but now the window for it is asking me to install it. here's the catch though: the installation fails every time after a few seconds. This also happens in the microsoft store. Furthermore, when I right click on the play icon on the left I get an option to uninstall the game (If I click the play button itself the xbox beta window goes away and then nothing happens). So MCC is somehow both installed and not installed. I took ownership of the WindowsApp folder on all of my drives, and I can't find the install folder for Halo MCC on any of them, and it's not in the "deleted" folder either. halp pls.
  17. ASRock and ASUS had them back on the z97 chipset. I don't think they worked with other boards.
  18. Back in ye olde days this was handled automatically, or you had to go into some deep settings to make sure your phone didn't MMS itself (*cough* sprint) but now it seems to be universally handled by adding your own phone number to a setting in the messaging app. I recently downloaded the google messages app so I could enable advanced features for wifi messaging, and the app actually prompted me for my own number when I first opened it. This worked for a while, but now it's like it just switched off, and it keeps deleting my phone number and recreating these self-referencing groups. Anybody else have experience with this?
  19. The locking docks Just made everything cleaner looking. A dock with a cable doesn't do much for tidying up the desk, and I can see people going to pick up their laptop without unplugging the thunderbolt dock and yanking everything with it.
  20. This is a strange story to be sure. My mom went to India a couple moths ago for a funeral. Stupid, I know, but she managed to get a repatriation flight back and was COVID-19 free after two weeks of self quarantine. Anyways, when she returned she said that her laptop couldn't hold a charge anymore. I checked, and her power supply is automatically switching between voltages and frequencies. What I can surmise is that the dirty wall power in India may have fried her battery and maybe power supply. She said that power outages were extremely common, and that most houses there have generators to run things when the power goes out for too long. She also said that the outlets would spark badly when inserting or removing electronics. This whole thing got me thinking, are there power cleaners for single electronics? I don't know how large it would have to be, but I was thinking something along the lines of a UPS but for a single device, using a high capacity capacitor and insulated connectors to stop sparking. It would be worthwhile I think, for the purpose of saving electronics.
  21. My mom asked me to find a new laptop for her for work, and my first thought was to get her a lenovo with a dock so she can connect all of her peripherals (charger, external storage, monitor, printer, keyboard/mouse) in one go, but all of the lenovo docks I find only support older models, with the newest only having 8th gen intel processors. I always liked the Lenovo docks for work, because it lets you be mobile and still have a nice clean desk when you put your laptop down on it. The USB-C docks just aren't the same. Does anybody have any evidence to the contrary?
  22. That's actually really interesting. I didn't manage to find this info when I had my problem, but I can definitely believe it. I don't remember having GEFORCE Experience installed though, as I didn't want to deal with the notifications and overhead.
