  1. Usually you want to discharge to the internal metal frame around the screen. Do this by attaching a copper wire or alligator clips to a screwdriver and the the frame, and then inserting it under the rubber insulator at the back of the screen (which I think is what you're describing). please wear rubber shoes and gloves. Most CRTs should have an automatic discharge, though I don't know for sure if you model does and would recommend looking it up. If the auto discharge doesn't start working you might want to let a professional repairman look into it, but I have no idea if you can even find one for a CRT anymore. Here's a link to a video and a wikihow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYIteus2ZDU https://www.wikihow.com/Discharge-a-CRT-Monitor
  2. Hello all, the title is pretty self explanatory. I have an asus motherboard with Armoury crate Aurasync and Corsair iCue installed for my mouse. I don't actually use iCue for RGB control, just for mouse settings (man I wish they had a standalone for mouse control) but iCue keeps trying to take control of the RGB when it's launched, even controlling the motherboard's built in edge lighting. I can't seem to get the mouse to save settings without launching the software, so is there a way to stop iCue and Aurasync from fighting for lighting control, or maybe to get my mouse to save the DPI settings I give it without the iCue software having to launch? FYI I have tried changing the default profile. Thanks for the help. P.S. I also wouldn't mind changing mice to fix the problem, if someone has a recommendation for chunky palm grip mice (a'la FUNC MS-3 (R.I.P. FUNC))
  3. I've always been frustrated by computers waking themselves from sleep. Normally I can find ways to avoid this, but now I'm up against something completely unexpected: Windows Event Viewer claims that the computer is waking from sleep because I pressed the power button when I most definitely didn't. For some background, I'm using an Asus Impact VI motherboard with a Ryzen 3700x and a water cooler in a Phanteks evolv shift air case. The only front panel connector this case has is the power button, and even though it's irrelevant I still made sure to match up the arrow on the connector with the positive pin on the mobo header. One thing is that I switch between Performance and Power Saving mode in Asus AI Suite, but can that really have an effect? One piece of curious info is that every power event, even ones I cause, are accompanied by a warning in event viewer that the USB hub in my monitor does not support the minimum lower power state, as well as information that "User Mode Power service" is running a program called "DipAwayMode.exe" from the asus AI suite folder. Is the operating system seeing the hub as having a "power button" that it presses to return itself to high power? Is away mode just not working because of it and causing the computer to wake from sleep just to enter "away mode" (what even is away mode? guess I'll look for a way to disable that in the BIOS)? P.S. I do have cats but they are definitely not pressing the power button on this case. I also see the computer return itself to power with my own eyes. Thanks for the help. Pictures below.
  4. Hey all. I think I'd like to look into a new mouse. I tried an expensive corsair mouse and kinda really hated it. I miss my old FUNC MS-3, but it caught double scrolling and double clicking really bad, and any used one would as well. What I learned is that I really like palm grips instead of claw, so I need a chonky mouse for my chonky hands. Probably something that has ring and pinky finger rests. I also really like two thumb buttons. Ergonomics are also really important to me. Right now I'm using a vertical mouse I found on Amazon, but it's not very comfortable and the thumb buttons are hard to use. If anybody has any suggestions I'm up to check it out. I've also been considering getting a gamepad for the ergonomics, but most don't look much more ergonomic than a keyboard and are really expensive. Does anyone here use a gamepad? I'm curious to hear your opinions on it.
  5. I just rewatched the LTT video on CTR. I thought I'd try it out, but the video is a little over 6 months old. is CTR still a good program to use, and also where do you download it? There's not link under the video, and I didn't see a link on Yuri's Twitter.
  6. I checked on COD and dynamic resolution was turned off and I was rendering at 100% resolution. I'll see if Nvidia Control Panel edit: I should also note that I never let the game change my settings to the "new optimized presets" because it always does some kind of garbage.
  7. I've noticed this in multiple games, mostly COD MW remake and CyberPunk 2077. Some nearby shadows and most distant objects will render with a grainy effect, which makes everything look wet. I was okay with it at first but now it's getting annoying. Anyone know what setting is causing this? Is it a universal Nvidia control panel setting? Thanks for the help.
  8. Thanks for the help guys. I did some soul searching (and panel searching) I think I'm going to refurbish this laptop to try and get it like new before I sell it and buy something new. I just want to make sure the next owner doesn't get a half-functional machine.
  9. Hi all. I really can't stand youtube music. I was wondering if someone could help me find a good app. I'm searching myself as well. I'm looking foremost for the following: 1. uses local music 2. has good organization in other words, it has categories like Album, artist, and all songs. Artist is broken up by album, and Albums are organized by song order. This might be my biggest priority. 3. Compatible with android auto 4. has a 4x1 widget If anybody has a recommendation I'm open to it. Right now I'm going through lists online of apps with android auto support and looking for one with the right organization. If I find one I'll post it up as well.
  10. As disappointed as I've been with my Spectre 13-AC013DX, It's still an okay daily driver, and it's stopped randomly getting BSODs... for the most part. But, it has a cracked screen and I need to fix that. I bought it with a FHD screen thinking that was fine for a small laptop, but honestly it has been a pain purely because of scaling. at 1080x1920, things on the screen are still pretty small, but I can't scale it without losing a lot of fidelity. Meanwhile my girlfriend can scale her 2k 13" Spectre just fine. I think I'd like to upgrade my screen to 2K at the same time if possible. I've watched the LTT video on upgrading the Acer Laptop screen. How would I go about finding the right part number for the screen? I doubt it's as easy as a car. Could I really just message HP and ask for the 2K screen part number? Are there options other than OEM HP? I'd be fine losing Windows Hello, If I have to go that way. Thanks for the help.
  11. I believe anything below ambient is dangerous because it will allow condensation to form. Unless you have very low humidity in your area, This is probably around 10 degrees C
  12. Hello All, I finally decided to download RPCS3 and Demon's Souls from Vimm's Lair the other day. It played great until I tried to use the first teleportation stone. After that the whole screen went black, but the UI was still there and I could still hear "My Guy" fat rolling in his armor. I tried deleting the shaders cache, updating the emulator, deleting and then redownloading the game, and changing my settings to match a PS3 as much as possible (single threaded, openGL, 720P, etc) and it still happens. The closest I got was this video where you can see all of the assets load in as black. This happened before I tried everything to fix it.
  13. Update: turns out, she was really far behind on updates. It was probably a compatibility issue. Problem seems to be solved now. I guess I jumped to conclusions
  14. Thanks for the replies. I think the wifi card is failing because the wifi isn't necessarily slow so much as it is constantly disconnecting and having very intermittent latency issues. I can see how this will also be caused by bad antenna, but I want to have a wifi card on hand to replace it with. I can't find any non-intel M.2 modules on the first few pages of newegg. I'm worried they don't exist lol. I'll keep looking. I'm trying to avoid Amazon.
  15. I don't expect an easy answer but I thought I should ask. My girlfriend's wifi card in her Spectre laptop seems to be going south, and I wanted to pick up another one. I figured any M.2 chip would work but apparently they are chipset specific, and installing the wrong one may cause the computer to appear bricked. How can I figure out what wifi card is compatible with her chipset? (I don't remember it off the top of my head).
  16. Hey there, You'll need to open a window called "system configuration" You do this by going into the start menu and typing in "sysconfig" Then hit enter and go to the boot tab on the window that opens. from there you can delete the extra install. I don't have an extra install in my photo, but you should see two there.
  17. I've always wanted a turtle pond, and I was thinking of taking some time to build one for my parents. I thought maybe someone here would have some advice for me. I was thinking of using retaining wall blocks as the sides of the pond to make it look like an old water well. I'm not sure yet what I should do about the turtles variety of spaces. I've seen people who just have platforms in the water for the turtle to sunbathe, but that seems like hardly enough. I think I'd want to place the entire pond into a port cut out of a piece of plywood, and fill the area with sand, gravel, and some plants to afford the turtles some variety of terrain. The pond will already be situated under a veranda with grape vines that grow over it to provide shade in the summer, so I don't think I'll need a large shade of my own. If anybody has any advice on construction, I'm open to all of it, but I'll also need to take into account where the pond is going. As far as the animals and plants go, I'll probably do what everyone in CA does and use red-eared sliders. I wanted to make the pond completely natural and use only local flora and fauna but it turns out the native Western Pond Turtles are illegal to keep as pets so there goes that idea lol. sucks too because I like the idea of a still pond. Anyways, as far as fish go I'll do the usual mix of koi, goldfish, and cleaner fish. I'll be asking my friend who owns the local pet shop what plants will pair well based on the lighting of the area and the residents of the pond. I'm honestly not too worried about my neighbors cats because I plan to have at least one large fountain in the pond and I am going to place plenty of hiding spots for the fish. again, suggestions would be great. I don't really know what to do about the water health. On the fish tank I had as a kid, we would periodically replace some of the water with distilled water and fish tank electrolytes. With a pond I'm sure I'll be filling it with a garden hose, so how do I prep it for animals, and what should I do about refilling the tank's losses from evaporation? are there plants I can put in the pond to sequester the chlorine and other treatment additives, or will I have to fill a bucket with water and a treatment solution and refill the pond that way? Here's some links to the materials I was planning to use: retaining stones: Basic Tan Retaining Wall Block (Common: 4-in x 12-in; Actual: 4-in x 12-in) in the Retaining Wall Block department at Lowes.com Pond Liner: MacCourt 71-in L x 58-in W Black High Density Polyethylene Pond Liner (125-Gallon) in the Pond Liners department at Lowes.com filter: smartpond Black Pond Pressurized Filter With UV in the Pond Accessories department at Lowes.com pump: smartpond 330-GPH Submersible Pond Pump in the Pond Pumps department at Lowes.com Prep Liquid: smartpond naturals Liquid Chlorine Remover 18-fl oz in the Pond Cleaners & Filters department at Lowes.com
  18. Hello all, I was wondering if anyone had assembled a list of cables that passed the test for connecting a Quest 2 headset to a PC. As far as I can tell, I don't have a USB-C 3.1 port on my graphics card or mobo, so I'll be doing type A to type C. I appreciate any advice on this so I don't end up buying and returning cables en masse (a wasteful practice in normal times, and especially in covid times). P.S. I'd ideally like to buy the cable from BestBuy and pick it up curbside.
  19. my usual settings, mostly high detail (except for shadows and reflections) with a resolution of 3440x1440. I've never bothered with the texture streaming options, but every time even a small update happens I have to download more textures. The whole game had been unstable and was barely functional. When I finally got a game to start before an error this happened, but it fixed itself after a minute. I just thought it was absolutely hilarious. My friends and I find that we have to reinstall the game every few months because it becomes extremely glitchy/unstable and scanning the game files doesn't always work. If you're still curious: Asus AM4 ITX motherboard Ryzen 3700X water-cooled G.Skill 3200MHz memory 16GB Aorus GTX 1080ti game installed on external 2TB SSD wired gigabit ethernet at ~120mb/s I posted a video of it on youtube if you want to watch it happen in real time COD:MW but it's on the PS2 - YouTube

  21. Granted, but it's a grenade and it goes off in your hand. I wish I was a better cook.
  22. like others are saying, you may have plugged your power LED into the HDD activity pins on your motherboard. It's a pretty simple thing to test out.
  23. In my experience XMP is extremely temperamental. I've never heard of it killing ram though. I think you should go into the bios and factory reset it, or at least reverse all XMP settings, then shutdown the system and unplug it and reseat the memory (just pop it out, make sure there's no dust in the slots, and put them back in). Then see if the memory is being recognized. For what it's worth, you do only need 16 GB, or even 8 GB, for a decent rig to play dota and even stream or edit. If that works, then manually enter the speed for the memory instead of using XMP. If there's an option, also set the CAS latency to be correct and voltage (all info should be on a sticker on the side of the memory). If the motherboard has options for automatically adjusting CAS and voltage, then use those, but definitely set the speed manually.
  24. sounds like you're hitting a bottleneck somewhere. What storage are you using? Also it might be software related. you could try reinstalling and looking for any greedy programs in the background.
