  1. I bought this a while ago but didn't install it for a couple months because of the time it would take to disassemble my water cooling. I've been using it for a while but I feel like it isn't running the way it's supposed to. I'm worried it may be the reason my computer will at times feel slow or won't load assets into games in a timely manner. I ran crystal disk mark on it, but I can't find result for the 4TB, only the 2TB, which it is way off of (here: https://www.legitreviews.com/sabrent-rocket-4-plus-2tb-ssd-review_224507/4). I've posted the results below and I was really hoping people who also have this SSD could run CDM and post their results to compare against. Thanks for the help in figuring this out. Peak Performance (R/W mixed) Real Performance (R/W mixed) Some more info to cover the basics: It is running off of a gen4 slot (Asus B550i), is set to gen4 in the bios (latest bios), and the other m.2 drive is set to use sata in an attempt to keep the lanes clean. It has a heatsink, that being the one built into the motherboard, and I did remove the plastic from the thermal pad. It is a clean installation of windows, but I upgraded to windows 11. I ran these tests with as many background apps closed as I could. The only thing using the SSD was Nvidia Container, and I can't exactly disable that.
  2. Hello all. I want to use VNC to log into an Ubuntu machine that doesn't have a monitor attached. My issue is that it would appear as though VNC does not allow this and will fail to log in when a monitor is disconnected. Is there some way to emulate a monitor with a certain resolution on Ubuntu (latest release)? specs below in case there are hardware conditions. Processor: i5 2500k graphics: intel Integrated graphics motherboard: asrock something or the other. drive: corsair 240gb mSATA monitor resolution: 3440x1440
  3. recently I've noticed that my Beyerdynamic Custom One Pros are louder in my left ear cup. This has happened on and off before, but it's becoming more consistent. I've never messed with the EQ settings on my computer and the cable is securely connected at every point. I heard Dankpods say that he's been hearing of old beyerdynamics failing this way. Can anyone confirm that this is a sign of my headphones dying? I'm also open to suggestions on some sub $200 headphones for music/gaming. Thanks for the advice.
  4. Hello everyone! My sister bought Elden Ring a few days ago and we've had a really hard time getting it to run. I'll go through a quick history her problems and the list of troubleshooting steps we've taken. The ones in green have been solved. Problems: 1. load to white screen then crash (caused by outdated hardware (a gtx 770)) 2. game refuses to start from steam 3. opening cinematic glitches then crashes 4. game crashes a few seconds into gameplay 5. game became randomly unstable and crashes after 10 minutes of play attempted solutions: 1. upgrade to RTX 3070ti (completely fresh install using DDU) 2. Update Motherboard Bios (Asus Prime B450 Plus) for EAC compatibility 3. move install directory to an SSD and verify files (was running on HDD) 4. run Elden Ring.exe and start_protected_game.exe (EAC) in administrator mode via compatibility menu We are still having stability issues with the game. I was wondering if anyone else has had issues with this kind of stuff and might have a solution. I'm open to trying almost anything, but a clean install of windows might take some convincing. Anyways, thanks for taking a look! PC Specs: Ryzen 5 2600 hexacore Asus Prime B450 Plus mobo Samsung pro SSD (256 gigs) Seagate 2TB HDD Gigabyte RTX 3070ti 2x8 GB DDR4 3000MHz EVGA Nova 750W PSU
  5. This has been concerning me big time. For the last week I have been getting daily account recovery codes from facebook. I use randomized passwords for everything and 2-factor authentication, so it appears that no one has been able to actually access my accounts, and I used the setting to sign myself out of everything just to be safe. In the emails there's always an option for if I wasn't the one that requested the code, yet this is still happening. I remember facebook used to show locations of where attempted logins came from, but it looks like they don't do that anymore. This has been weirding me out for a while. Normally these kinds of things happen a couple times and then they stop, but this person or program has been relentless with trying to get in. Does anybody have some advice or a similar experience to share?
  6. That title is a little confusing, so let me explain. Right now, I have windows installed on two SSDs in RAID 0 on an AMD motherboard. I want to move my windows installation to a single NVME SSD, which will also require me to switch to AHCI most likely. My question is what is the best way to do this. I have two ideas, so I'll go ahead and list them. 1. set up the powershell command to change from RAID to AHCI in windows, then image my windows install over, then go about the process normally. 2. Image windows to a new disk, boot into the single disk that is set up in RAID, then run the commands to move it to AHCI. I'm not sure how AMD RAID will play with the transfer since it required me to upload drivers during the installation of windows, and I don't know what those drivers will do once I disable raid or move to a storage device that isn't in a RAID array. Thanks for the help!
  7. This post is brought to you by today's sponsor, NORDVPN. With nordvpn you'll install curl libraries on ubuntu just to install it using this command straight from nordvpn's support website. sh <(curl -sSf https://downloads.nordcdn.com/apps/linux/install.sh) Which will work, but will result in VNC not working because the linux version does not ignore local connections by default! No problem, just add the whitelist for your local subnet using the command: nordvpn whitelist add subnet 192.168.1.0/1 which will not work because nordvpn will tell you it already has a whitelist for 128.0.0.0/40... except that's definitely not what I tried to add, and when I check the whitelist that's not in there. On top of that it won't let me change the whitelist until I disconnect from the vpn. I do that, delete all entries in the whitelist, and then nordvpn won't even connnect, giving me the error that something went wrong and nothing else... The command to uninstall nordvpn is: sudo apt-get --purge remove 'nordvpn*' which will work, and then you can install nordvpn again using the first command and add the whitelist entry before anything has a chance to go wrong. This will result in the message added 128.0.0.0/40 to whitelist... again, that's not what I tried to add. Nordvpn also still won't connect. uninstalling and reinstalling nordvpn again, this time restarting between each step, will result in a broken install that still says it can't connect... Except that it did, apparently. using the command nordvpn status after connecting will show that there is an active connection, and disconnecting will terminate it, even though this command also reports failing. At this point I'm not sure what's true or what to believe. Any help with today's sponsor will be greatly appreciated!
  8. For some context, I've been playing Skyrim SE using the windows store version because I get it free with gamepass. This version is too locked down to use mods like SKSE, so I've been going without them. Thing is, I really want to get silly, and that means SKSE. I "downloaded" Skyrim Anniversary edition 1.642 and clicked on the option to manually point the game to a different install location. This worked (supposedly). Then I reinstalled all of my mods. This did not work, as files were being deleted left and right, and when the game started things were clearly broken. Yes, I was also launching using SKSE64. When I clicked on the mods option in the game itself it would not let me enable any of the mods I installed except for Diverse Dragons. Vortex was also throwing a fit about the included files that came with anniversary edition. Finally, when I started the game using the button in Vortex to do so, it started up the version from the microsoft store. I think this is why I wasn't able to mod the new version of the game; Vortex was still somehow attached to the MS store version. So, how can I point Vortex to mod a separate install of the game? Thanks for the help.
  9. I'm trying to add the latest version of wine by adding winehq as the repository (i'm following the guide on their website) but I keep running into an error that the public key is not available, and as such installation is disabled by default. most guides I find online just say to remove the troublesome repositories, but this doesn't help at all as I just end up trying to readd them. I did download and install the release keys, as suggested by most guides, however I still get the error that no public keys can be found for any of the builds on winehq. Any help?
  10. Thanks for the response! I should mention that DLSS was already off. sorry if that was worded confusingly. I've tried all of these tips, but the issue still occurs, and seems to occur more when the game has been running longer. I've also watched youtube videos of other people playing the game and the same glitch is present for them as well. I now believe that this is either a memory leak issue (since it gets worse as the game runs), a coding issue (Halo games had always had issues with floating point calculations), or something to do with temporal anti aliasing (which is on by default and only the strength of the effect can be chosen).
  11. I've been having this issue since the launch of the Halo Infinite campaign. It appears as though objects are jittering or desyncing from themselves (as in separate parts of the objects move independently). I haven't seen this with objects on the ground, but I have seen it with objects in first person and in cutscenes. I've uploaded a particularly obvious scene of it happening in gameplay and in a cutscene (it is a little spoilery). I'm wondering if this could be a hardware issue. I doubt it is because this is the only game in which it happens, but I don't want to rule it out since a good portion of my hardware is used and I had to RMA my PSU earlier this year (ironically it was new) and it may have caused some damage on its way out. my hardware and its status is below, as well as some cursory graphics settings. Video: Aorus GTX1080Ti (used, was powered by molex in its past life) Ryzen 7 3700x (new, stock) G.Skill TridentZ 3200MHZ DDR4 (used) Corsair SFX750 (New from RMA) Asus B450i Gaming Mobo (new) Samsung 970 evo NVMe (used) Phanteks custom water cooling stuff (new, if you can really consider water "new") Settings: High Preset windowed borderless 3440x1440 60% sharpening DLSS off Gsync on motion blur off
  12. Hello everyone! I was really enjoying Halo Infinite yesterday. I was also going to enjoy it today, but instead the game took me straight to the MS store page for windows gaming services when launched from the Xbox app for PC. Why use the game on that service? Because it's free with game pass, that's why. This has become a common problem for some people, so I'm going to post some possible fixes for it here. 1. Reinstall Gaming Services for this you'll need to open a powershell terminal as administrator, then enter the following commands. (Special thanks to a commentor on the MS store page for this) get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices|remove-AppxPackage -allusers start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN This is kinda like removing a package from Linux, and then readding it. You'll still need to download the gaming services from the MS store. Luckily, trying to launch the game will open the store page for the services. 2. uninstall and reinstall HD textures This one is pretty straight forward. Open the Xbox App, select the Halo Infinite Campaign, then click on the options button ( . . . ) and select "Manage Game". From here deselect the HD Textures and click apply changes. When the menu closes, reopen it using the steps above and select to install the HD textures. Starting the game once with the texture uninstalled may also help. Those two are the most effective solutions. Please comment below with other fixes and I'll add them to the list. 3. Reset the app This fix comes courtesy of a new feature of windows. If your install of windows 10 has not been updated in a long time then this option may not appear to you (also update your shiz). Open the start menu and go to Settings > Apps > Apps & Features > Halo Infinite and click on the options button to the right of it. From there select Advanced Options and scroll down to select the option to reset the app.
  13. I have a pretty weird problem which may stem from the recent history of my PC. a couple months ago my PC started randomly crashing to a hard reboot in demanding tasks. I eventually determined the problem was my PSU so I got a replacement from Corsair. At the same time I decided to do a reset on my PC using window's built in function for it (this was to eliminate other factors in troubleshooting). It installed drivers automatically, but I don't think they were all correct as I also started to get that windows audio bug on Nvidia audio devices where there's a delay between starting an audio output and actually hearing it. Now everything's back together and there aren't power issues, but after a while of playing games they will start to slow down significantly, and this usually seems to be tied to some function happening in the game. For instance I was playing Dark Souls III today and after leaving a message on the ground my game slowed down. Restarting the game didn't help. When I was playing COD:MW I had a situation where every time I died my framerate got lower and my latency increased until I crashed and got a DirectX error. If I'm streaming, then the stream will also crash and will give me an encoding error. My GPU is an Aorus GTX 1080Ti. I've been checking temperatures and the highest it's ever gotten is 76 degrees (92 in a hot spot according to HWINFO). My GPU is essentially open to fresh air. Thank you for helping. This has been pretty frustrating for me.
  14. That's how I have it right now, using molex with a sata adapter, but for the last year I've been wanting to get it working off of the fan header alone so I figured it's worth finally looking into.
  15. Yeah the wattage seems suspicious to me. Most pumps draw more current and power when they first start. I have a very small loop with very little head pressure, but I don't want to risk it pulling more than the port can handle when the computer turns on.
  16. I have an Asus Strix B-450-i gaming motherboard and an Alphacool 13178 Laing DDC310 pump. The pump comes with a 3 pin fan header with a single wire for the speed signal, and a molex connector with two wires for power (I have it plugged into sata power using an adapter). It would make my ITX build much cleaner if I could just use the motherboard header. Is it safe to rewire the system to use just the motherboard header? I'd probably just run it at full speed anyways. Thanks for the advice.
  17. Thanks for the offer but they actually just got back to me after I made another ticket yesterday.
  18. I think I'll have to at this point. I even DMed Corsair support on Twitter and got nothing. I think they also aren't seeing my ticket, and so their support script just tells them to ignore it.
  19. Thanks for the tip. I did respond to the initial email today, but I'm worried that either no one is on my case yet, or it was abandoned. As I said there is no ticket on Corsair's website when I search for my ticket number.
  20. I'm in the USA, and yes I sent my request through Corsair's website by following links for warranty service.
  21. My corsair SF750 died a week ago and so I sent in an RMA request to Corsair. I included all details and a picture of the info label on the side, but I still haven't heard back. I don't even see an open ticket when I search for the ticket number on Corsair's website. Has anyone had to RMA through Corsair and can tell me what I might be in for?
  22. I'm trying to brush up on python using Google's python tutorials and by doing the exercises in VS Code, but the syntax is inconsistent between google's code and what the IDE expects. I'm using python 3.9.6 as the interpreter. take for instance print. Should be straight forward, but google doesn't use a lot of syntax that VS Code is expecting. for example #google exercises are written as print 'hello world' #VS Code throws errors #It says things like "declarations should be on a new line) #the tool tip for print shows everything in parenthesis #It expects print('hello world') This is pretty frustrating because I have to spend time debugging google's own code. The worst part is that I'm not a big fan of google and wish they would do things differently, so spending time debugging their code while trying to use their resources is a level of cosmic irony I wasn't prepared for today. to use python on VS code I'm using two extensions: "Python" by Microsoft and "Python Extension Pack" by Don Jayamanne Is this discrepancy down to the python 3.9 interpreter being different, VS Code adding syntax where it isn't supposed to be, or google writing in an outdated form of Python? How can I fix it?
  23. My first case was an In-Win griffon, so all of my computer names have been [military rank]_WIN I am currently on YEET_CHADMIRAL_WIN
