  1. https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GT70-2QD-Dominator/Specification This is the original build. Im not buying a new gtx 980m with 8gb of vram. I trying to repurpose it because I cannot find a replacement motherboard for it after I fried it during a bios flash. All the parts aside the motherboard should be in working order. I cannot even tell you the original CPU. This thing has been collecting dust since 2017. I already have a new build with an RTX 2060. I just want to put these parts to good use. I dont want to sell them.
  2. so maybe i could just transfer the parts over the a MXM equipped motherboard. I guess i could keep all the same internals, but would need a new cooling system possibly. The CPU is not soldered on. I removed it today when I attempted resetting the cmos and applied new thermal paste to both the CPU and gpu. Its like a small square unit for the GPU thats slotted into something. The CPU chip itself can be completely removed
  3. I can send pictures of the internal components tomorrow. a replacement motherboard is like $300 for this laptop. I just feel like I might as well find a desktop equivalent if im going to drop that kind of money on it. The 980m's are selling for dirt cheap on ebay feel like its not worth the time. would enjoy building something with it much more if that makes sense. I just reset the cmos today and reapplied thermal paste and it just isnt turning on.
  4. GPU and CPU are not soldered on completely removable. I want to just find a way to utilize the parts because i cannot find a replacement motherboard for the laptop.
  5. well so this is the type of build i am looking for. Just something where i can utilize these parts because I cant find a replacement motherboard
  6. there's desktops that use it already in itx form factor that are old. I am just unfamiliar with the what kind of slot I need to utilize it. what kind of motherboards are compatible. If This isnt possible what motherboard would i need to transfer it to to make it work. Im sure there is some way to rig this up
  7. Budget (including currency): Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I have existing parts from my MSI GT 70 2qe dominator. The motherboard fried on it during a bios update. I attempted resetting the CMOS the original build can be found here https://www.msi.com/Laptop/support/gt70-2qd-dominator All the parts should function fine aside the motherboard, I just think it would be better to utilize the parts into a desktop build with a better processor. I am just wondering how it could be slotted onto a desktop build. I know ITX builds in the past utilized the 980m. I just dont think I can get a new motherboard for the laptop and figured I would be better off buying an AMD Ryzen chip with some new ram and a new harddrive and just utilizing the gtx 980m with 8gb of vram. I am not looking for a specific build type, Dont care if its small or big, I just want to know of a motherboard that would work. The processor is also still fine. Nothing is Soldered on the board. cpu is completely removable, gpu completely removable. My question is more aimed at what motherboard can i put these parts in, how can i cool these parts?
  8. My gaming laptop is consistently having issues with frame-rate dropping. It will go to getting 60-70 fps and drop down to the 10's and below then suddenly will go back to normal it keeps doing this. I considered this may be a cooling issue or an issue with my cpu thermal throttling so i undervolted the cpu and it gave me some relative stable frames in games but drastically reduced my frame-rate. Prior to the under-volt I was getting 70 fps in GTA V online for example and then it was constantly dipping between that cap of 70 fps all the way down to the 10's it would stay that way for a couple of minutes and then suddenly spike upward. Generally whenever it was rendering a heavily populated area. I am trying to play Assasins creed odyssey which i know is generally cpu heavy game. The undervolt along with graphical tweaks aided the game to being somewhat playable but it continues to dip in the frame rate than spike upward. This is all consistent with a cpu bottlneck I am assuming. But the strange part is I am not utilizing more than 87% of my cpu and the graphics card is only utilizing about 3gb vram out of the 6 gb it has available. I am noticing this consistent frame rate issues across many different games. Even league of legends will drop from 144 fps to like 30 fps and below. This suddenly started happening. Im not sure If its some kind of windows setting or what. I have updated all my drivers. Scanned for viruses, malware, rootkits. Run SFC scan and DISM as well.really at a loss. I am assuming Windows 10 is causing some sort of bottleneck. Specs: CPU. Intel Core i7-8750H. GPU. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 (Laptop) RAM. 16GB DDR4, 2666 MHz PG279Q 1440p 144hz gsync
  9. Is suffered from similar roadblocks. Once I get a proper kit to take apart the device I would have better answers for this. I am though curious of what a good resource for ordering parts for the device would be. The CPU is kind of garbage on the device, was one of the things I was hoping up to upgrade as I find a replacement motherboard. Do you know of any good websites for locating a motherboard.
  10. No nothing is soldered on the units seem to be segmented so I can completely detach the GPU, I can also remove the cpu and the ram and the hard drive. My difficulty is in finding a replacement motherboard
  11. So I windows crashed during a bios flash I conducted several years ago. So I have this bricked Laptop 2014 model MSI GT series GT70 Dominator 2295 Laptop. I have considered just purchasing a new motherboard and transferring the components to that motherboard. As the device wont power on after it crashed during the bios flash process. I was also thinking I could re-purpose the CPU and the GTX 980m as well as the ram to a desktop set up. Was just exploring options here wanted to see what the forum thought about how to re-purpose or repair this gaming laptop. I was also unsure on how to go about locating a motherboard replacement, and maybe there are better motherboards, and possibly CPU upgrades that would make me purchasing the new motherboard worth the money. My assumption is the motherboard is just bricked.
  12. I noted that the ethernet cables they used to connect things are Cat 5e instead of Cat 6. The person who installed the fiber did this. I am wondering If I should contact them and tell them to install Cat 6 cables. Or is 5e sufficient and thus the installation done properly?
  13. Yea the NIC is fine. Despite uninstalling the Killer networking command center it still runs as a backround service. probably some sort of registry thing. Disabling these increased the speeds significantly but not to their full 1gbs, which I suspect Is more because those speeds are Advertised vs like real world speeds. Im getting 700-750 MBPS down now and its equaled out to the upload speed, the upload is still moderately faster. But, Not really sure what else to do. I did uninstall the NIC too. My CAT cable is CAT 6 and I do have QOS and an IDPS enabled so this might also explain the the speed differences.
  14. Noticed immediate improvements once I disabled the Killer associated services and uninstalled the ethernet drivers rebooted my device. I cant find your post about TCP optimizer. I found the installation via google, not sure how to run it for optimizing for 1gbps. If you could link it. I wasn't sure which post had the information about it. The Network stuff seems to be about network architecture. Couldn't find anything about TCP optimizer.
  15. Yea i ran benchmarks. It was the whole purpose of the fresh install. Issue persisted across a full clean installation, still works in safe mode with networking
