  1. if this is in the wrong subforum then pls move it so i just bought a laptop off of facebook marketplace, from what i can tell now, i need to add more ram and add an ssd for boot. it came with an athlon silver 3050u, 4gb ram, and a 500gb hard drive. do i upgrade the ram or hard drive first? and do i get 8gb ram or 16gb ram?
  2. so i wanna get a laptop to play stuff like minecraft and at most gta v on low. i dont wanna spend more than 500. i dont need crazy performance, dont need a big ssd, 8gb of ram, and not intel if possible
  3. Budget (including currency): 400-450 + 250 Country: us Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: minecraft, gta v, payday 2, stuff like that. also just general use and maybe a tiny bit of editing Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): rn i got an i5 4590, 16gb ddr3, 500w psu, 2 tb+ of storage, and an rx 570. im gonna keep the graphics card, the 500w psu, and. the ssd and hard drive. everything else im upgrading. so far i got this parts list which has either purchased stuff or the prices at microcenter on cpu and motherboard. i should already be able to afford it all for like 400 to 450, but now i have an extra 250 to spend, so should i get a better graphics card, cpu, etc, or spend it on something not computer related PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor $179.99 Motherboard MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard $99.99 Memory Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory $74.99 @ Corsair Storage Silicon Power Ace A55 256 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Purchased For $0.00 Storage Seagate Barracuda Compute 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Purchased For $0.00 Video Card XFX Radeon RX 570 8 GB Video Card Purchased For $0.00 Case Phanteks Eclipse P300A Mesh ATX Mid Tower Case $59.99 @ Amazon Power Supply Thermaltake Smart 500 W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply Purchased For $0.00 Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total $414.96 Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-12-20 17:51 EST-0500 btw the storage are just random parts because idk what brand mine are theyre just generic
  4. Budget (including currency): 400-500 Country: us Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: minecraft, blender, gmod, etc Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): rn she has an intel xeon w3550, 12gb of ddr3 at 1333mhz, an a radeon r7 200. she has all peripherals, gonna be bought around christmas or after christmas. 1080p probably 60hz for the time being. some of the stuff will be bought at the sharonville ohio microcenter, also she wants ryzen, along with a radeon gpu
  5. gonna get a new cpu, mb, ram, and case for christmas, i got everything but the case chosen. rgb and glass panel isnt necessary but if you can find one, that'd be nice. found this one so far https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GVL3CKJ/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?tag=coa_us-20&ie=UTF8&linkId=5961cd080dd6980f03eea66cb8603a4c
  6. getting worse performance for pretty much the same price just because "op doesnt need it" is stupid
  7. if rtx 3000 is out why would you get an rtx 2060 that isnt even super
  8. bump i'd like more input on this
  9. current setup, dont worry i'll do cable management when i get the new case
  10. i dont know how much i'd have by christmas. last time i got like $330 worth of presents from everyone, and i get like 6.50 a week from allowance. im 13 btw. i'd like to buy this stuff a little after christmas, i could probably save some from after christmas sales. if i really need to i could reuse my optiplex case but personally i'd rather get a new one.
  11. also forgot to mention, would i have to reinstall windows when i switch cpu and mb
  12. 14. i have a windows 7 vm with viruses on it that opens perfectly fine, but i have a windows xp vm that i wasnt able to use internet on at all, let alone download anything. it used to open but never worked at all internet wise. error code is pnp_detected_fatal_error. host pc had nothing get deleted, everything seems fine. still backing up my files https://streamable.com/v1p26r
  15. then idk, i wouldnt recommend a headset if i hadnt used it
  16. this is the headset i have, audio sounds great but doesnt have surround sound which honestly you dont really need https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Surround-Premium-Gaming-Headset/dp/B07XF2TGFX/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=corsair+void+elite&qid=1596862851&sr=8-2&tag=coa_us-20 here's a mic test (loud) 2020-08-08_01-02-10.mp4
  17. well in 3 years vega 3 would be obsolete and be kinda like how intel graphics are rn, if you dont need to upgrade since you wouldnt be playing triple a games then its fine
  18. wait would it only be your kid using it or both you and your kid, because that changes a lot. by the time your kid is old enough to really notice low fps the parts you'd put in the build could be upgraded. a 6 year old doesnt need 200 fps
  19. why are you upgrading mb and psu, are they just old?
  20. i did the cooler and mb because idk which cpu he'd get then, and i didnt realize he didnt already have the monitor. he said he would edit using resolve so i did 64gb because of that
  21. wait for big navi, rtx 3000, and ryzen 4th gen. until then heres a base for those parts. 22. great gpu but lacking cpu https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/GcLG9G good cpu but kinda lacking gpu https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/T6b37T great cpu, 32gb ram, better mb, same raw performance on gpu but worse encoder. $60 over budget https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/BWsTQq you choose based on your priorities. also stop making a billion threads
