  1. Yeah, I have a Corsair H100i. I don't need to upgrade right this minute to be honest so waiting to see what comes is a good option. I guessed as much after I actually spent time researching it, as I said, I didn't really know about this stuff when I got the PC. That's good advice, I've had a look around and the 7740x doesn't really go for much, I'll probably get more for the motherboard. Looks like the general consensus is don't upgrade X299 and move to something different when I can afford it. Thanks for everyone's help.
  2. So, when I got my PC (2 years ago) I didn't really know what I was doing, and went for the X299 Intel platform because I didn't do enough research for my specific needs (predominantly gaming) and thought "expensive = better". Over the last 2 years I've tried to educate myself a bit more and learn about the different platforms. I'd still say I'm pretty novice, hence this question. I'm now looking to upgrade my CPU, mainly for gaming performance, but also thermals as the 7740x I have runs very hot. I've been looking at the new 10th gen X series processors and they are just so expensive and I'm not sure on their gaming performance compared to other options. So my question is, is it worth me staying on X299, both in terms of performance and the platforms longevity, and upgrading. Or should I try to look at moving to something different, that'll potentially be more future proof and/or have better gaming performance? Or should I not bother with any type of upgrade at this time? Any advice on a way forward would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Thank you very much for doing this, really appreciate you taking the time. I think that all looks fine for what i want to do. Now to look at what monitor to get!
  4. Thank you very much, I'd really appreciate that! I think I currently get a pretty constant 144hz on max settings at 1080p, but obviously I wouldn't really expect that at 1440p
  5. Oh thanks! I play a bit of Overwatch and Apex Legends, but on the more taxing end I'm playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider and DMC 5. Mostly want to get the 1440p monitor for Doom Eternal and Cyberpunk 2077 when they come out. Ah, I see. That's a bit more of a drop than I had hoped, but acceptable until I can upgrade the GPU
  6. I think a 25% drop in frames is reasonable, I just didn't want them to tank way down trying to drive the extra pixels. I'm also interested in the 3000 series, I think it might be a good upgrade. But it's good to know that I can run 1440p at reasonable fps currently Thanks for the replies
  7. This is my first post here so apologies if this has been answered or I've posted in the wrong place. So I've been looking to upgrade my monitor from 1080p 144hz to 1440p 144hz and I'm trying to work out if my current rig can actually run the higher resolution. I've looked at a few threads here, as well as some other sources, and can't really find a definitive answer. I see people asking a similar question but not really explaining specifically what they want performance wise. So, for context, I would like to be able to play current/new AAA titles at high settings or better (depending on title ofc), with ~100+ fps. I can drive this at 1080p currently but my PC is a couple of years old so I'm unsure if it's capable of the higher resolution without losing too many frames. Would my current PC be able to achieve this without any changes, or should I focus on upgrades before forking out for a 1440p monitor? If I need to upgrade my PC first, what should I upgrade? (my PC specs are down in my sig)
