Awesome84 reacted to adarw in McDonald's To Make AI Drive-Thrus In Partnership With IBM
Summary
McDonald's basically wants to make a Siri (IBM and McDonald's are calling it Automated Order Taking (AOT) technology) for their drive thru. They are contracting IBM for the AI training. McDonald's also is selling McD Tech Labs to IBM which was an AI company McDonald's's acquired in 2019. They have already tested it in 10 Chicago mcdonads, while it seem to be efficient, it does need work

Awesome84 reacted to WolframaticAlpha in Firefox users down 50 million since 2018
Firefox is the only choice. Else you can use a chromium based browser, but FF is not that bad, and looks beautiful. It has many of the extensions I use(ublock origin, sponsorblock, grammarly etc) and works well-ish

They just bury old solar panels, nothing really green about them. Kinda like electric cars. Terrible.

Awesome84 reacted to captain_to_fire in Apple Spring Loaded Event (April 20th, 2021) - Leaked by Siri, confirmed by Apple
The M1 is already ARMv8 just like the A7 chip (iPhone 5s) in 2013, I don't think Apple will have enough time to design a new AS for the Mac based on ARMv9, unless they already had it way before ARM announced it just a few weeks ago.
This is why data scientists who work using Intel Macs should skip the M1 Mac and wait for the ARMv9 refresh

I wonder if the person who pushed the update early did so because his mind was warm & fuzzy?

420? 69? I really don't know how to feel now. Too many meme numbers.
Anything more than iPad (Pro) expected? Personally hoping for an Apple SoC iMac, that would be sweet.

I am assuming you are using Windows. So have you tried it with other media players such as Media Player which comes installed on Windows because personally, I believe VLC sucks.

Awesome84 reacted to Spindel in Apple Responds to Facebook's Anti-Tracking Criticism
Summary
On december 16th, in a blog post and a full-page ad published in three major newspapers, Facebook claimed that Apple's tracking change will have a "harmful impact on many small businesses that are struggling to stay afloat."
"We disagree with Apple's approach and solution, yet we have no choice but to show Apple's prompt," said Facebook. "If we don't, they will block Facebook from the App Store, which would only further harm the people and businesses that rely on our services. We cannot take this risk on behalf of the millions of businesses who use our platform to grow."
Apples has responded to this with the quote below
Quotes
My thoughts
I feel that facebook are trying the Spotify/Epic argumentation that what they are doing is to stand up for the "small" businesses. But, just as Spotify/Epic, they don't give a shit about the "small" businesses. If your business model relies on not being transparent I would suggest that you try another model. My guess is FB does not have the balls to withdraw from apples ecosystem anyway.

Apple is singlehandedly doing near what the EU has done to protect online privacy.

Awesome84 reacted to JoseGuya in Cloudfare and Apple working on a new DNS to protect data from ISPs
This is from a few weeks ago, but I didn't find anything with the search function so here it goes:
Summary
Apple and Cloudfare are proposing a new DNS standard: Oblivious DNS over HTTPS (ODoH) to anonymize user's data from ISPs
Quotes
My thoughts
This is another step Apple is taking on privacy, now targeting ISPs. This combined with the recent feud against Facebook with the AppStore new guidelines on privacy, I'll say Apple is going very strong on privacy.

Note quite,
wine is not emulation:
* it provides dynamic libs that exposed the windows apis to these apps the map these the unix system apis.
Rosetta2 is not emulation:
* it is a translation tools that convert x86-64 binaries into ARM64 binaries.

I would see no problem with none of that. But instead of a Ryzen 3, opt for a Ryzen 5 if you can.
