  1. Excellent, thanks for the replies peeps. I'll take a look into those and see which would be better for me.
  2. Hi all, Is it possible to clone a drive, but miss out some folders please? I have a drive I want to back up periodically, but it's bigger than the drive I'll be backing up to, so I'd like to miss out games and stuff that can be replaced pretty easily. All I really need is the main OS folders etc. If it is possible, can anyone suggest a program that could do the job please? Many thanks
  3. Also, follow up heat related question if I may. My idle temps are CPU at ~45deg and GPU at ~35deg. Under load (playing cyberpunk on high settings at 1080p), I get CPU at ~65-70deg and GPU at ~60-65deg. Does that sound okay? Specs are: ASRock B450M Pro4-F mobo Ryzen 2600 16GB 3000mhz RAM 5600XT gfx Fractal 650w gold PSU
  4. Hi, Thanks for the reply. I've tested it out on my motherboard by hooking up the rear fan to one of the motherboard headers and setting a curve in the BIOS for 0% rpm at 50deg and 50% rpm at 60deg. After a restart, the fan does stop spinning and only starts up when the temp hits 60deg, so I don't know if I have a newer board or something, but it does work. I'll have to test the other header to make sure it does the same, but assuming it does, the question still stands: are those splitter cables in the link above okay to do what I mentioned? Thanks.
  5. Hi all, I'm pretty sure I've got this right, but hoping someone can confirm for me please. I have a case with 4 x 3pin fans and a motherboard with 2 chassis fan connectors (1 x 4pin and 1 x 3 pin). I want to set things up so that only 2 of the fans are spinning normally (say 600rpm) to keep things quiet, but the other 2 kick in when I start gaming (ie - all four at 1000rpm or so). I'll be setting appropriate fan curves in the BIOS. I just need to know if these 2 cables will be suitable to do that as I'm a bit confused by the missing pin on some connectors - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Litorange-Splitter-Cable-Converter-Computer/dp/B082W5Y6LJ/ref=sr_1_13?dchild=1&keywords=fan%2Bsplitter%2B3%2Bpin&qid=1608348719&s=computers&sr=1-13&th=1 Thanks
  6. Well, I have a development. Today, I tried putting just one RAM stick into the mobo and trying that. Sure enough, it could be set as high as 2933mhz with no problems on both sticks in either the A1 or A2 slots. As soon as I put both back in together though, it drops back to 2133mhz and refuses to go any higher, either on A1/B1 or A2/B2. Any ideas why that would be so? Does it indicate something?
  7. It seems to me you've already made your mind up before you even originally posted and are looking for opinions to make sure you've made the right decision, which is fair enough. My final contribution to this thread will just say this. Your last reply to me pointed out that the 9700k bundle you were looking at was $50 cheaper. However, if you swap the mobo in the AMD bundle for an MSI tomahawk max - which is AFAIK still a very capable board - you end up saving $75 over the intel bundle. That basically pays for a decent 16GB RAM kit too for the same price. ? The choice, as they say, is yours ?
  8. I've just tried altering the memory clocks on Ryzen master too, but those options are greyed out ?
  9. Here's a benchmarking video from youtube - As this shows, you're getting about 5-10% extra performance with intel, but the price is about 30-40% more expensive (I just checked on eBuyer). If you have unlimited budget, by all means spend away, but if you're on any kind of budget, that's AMD is far better performance for the money. ?
  10. Hi, If you want to check out some gaming benchmarks, there's loads of them on youtube. Just put the 2 CPUs/graphics cards you're thinking about and someone will probably have done a comparison. I personally like ryzen though as you get 90% of the performance for about 60-70% of the price of intel (at least last time I checked).
  11. I'd say that should be fine. Most gsames don't use more than 8GB and unless you're doing heavy video or image editing, 16GB should be more than enough. ? A couple of things to note. If you're going for ryzen or the last 2 or 3 gens of intel, they won't work with windows 7 as support has been dropped. There are workarounds, but I've just spent the last 2 days trying them and in the end, had to upgrade to win10. Secondly, I've just upgraded my system and my 3000mhz corsair RAM is languishing at 2133mhz so ask about in forums like this as to compatibility for the parts before you buy them.
  12. Don't know if they may be helpful or not, but here's some pics of the BIOS screens -
  13. @boggy77 Tried that and no luck. Still resets to 2133mhz. Thanks though. @KineticStorm So it's ok to switch to an earlier BIOS then? It won't do any damage?
  14. Hi Stu_Bear, Thanks for the reply. The mobo has 4 slots and the manual says to put 2 sticks into A2 and B2 slots so I've not tried moving them yet. I'm assuming nothing terrible will happen if i do? ?
  15. Hi all, Well, I've taken the plunge and bought some new bits for my PC - Asrock B450M Pro4-F Mobo Corsair vengeance 3000mhz RAM (CMK16GX4M2D3000C16) Ryzen 5 1600x CPU However, after getting everything set up, I noticed the RAM is only running at 2133Mhz. I've enabled the XMP profile and tried it at 3000, 2933 and 2666Mhz which makes no difference. If I set it to anything other than 2133Mhz, the PC will start up then immediately shutdown. It does this 3 times before starting properly, with the RAM set back to 2133Mhz. I noticed the mobo has version 1.60 BIOS, which according to the AsRock website isn't recommended for summit ridge CPUs, which I believe mine is. Can I roll back the BIOS to an earlier version? Is that even a good idea? Anyone any idea how to get this RAM behaving properly please? Many thanks ?
