Which CPU?
I have a 2700x but I will definitely upgrade in the near future
-
Im not sure i get what you mean by software inconsistencies. Do you mean new drivers? Updates to windows? Updates in general? And how would this affect m y gaming experience whatsoever?
-
Ive heard nvidia is better about driver support...
-
i am willing to upgrade to a 3900x if need be (or better yet a 4900x).

no
it should for at least a bit.
but with windows and games and driver left to their own devices and unchecked it won't stay that way but it'll be a fun first month or two.wdym left to their own devices and unchecked

I'm building a entry level gaming pc. My budget is quite tight so I can't afford 3600. I've chosen 1650 super as my GPU can't go higher than this. Also i'll take an entry level b450 motherboard (GIGABYTE AMD B450M DS3H ULTRA DURABLE RGB MOTHERBOARD) and 16 gb RAM. BUT i'm in doubt in CPU, should I take Ryzen 5 2600 or 3500?? What kind of performance gap will I get in this combination? IF 3500 is better, then does it worth the extra 30$ (in local market) or should i spend that money on a better motherboard?
Seeing a build has never made me feel this rich. I'm over here throwing the budget out the window and this guy is struggling to get a decent 1080p machine for a small price.

So will a 2700x and 2 x 16 ddr4 3600 cl18 ram run the latest and greatest games at 1440p ultra 144 fps? And if that's a yes, how about with ray tracing?
-
I was originally going to buy an rx 5700, then i realized im not cheap so i decided i was going to get an rx 5700 xt, then i realized rtx is pretty cool so why not get a 2070 super, but then i was like "ya know what, screw it. I'll buy a 2080 ti." When i realized the 3080 ti is coming soon i decided to scrap all my previous plans, wait til june, and get a free rx 570 from a friend in the meantime.

3900x will have better performance when it comes to tasks other than gaming so i assume that your PC wont only be used for gaming so the 3900x is probably a better buy. Don't even consider the 3950x over the 3900x because the performance gap in games is negligible and the price is much more. The 9900 KF is the best cpu for gaming currently and a 2080 should pair nicely with either cpu. I personally am rocking a 2700x and i have a free rx 570 from a friend to tide me over until the 3080 ti launch. I think the 3900x is the better choice and i will personally be buying it in the future.

From my experience on Zen platform (first gen) Frequency is more important than timings. There is a math equation that determines this due to latency vs. Frequency but I saw very little (margin of error) change when focusing on timings, vs pushing 3600mhz which resulted in much higher frame rates and tighter frame times (gaming first, for me)
What CPU (give us full specs)
Likely to get stable, better timings, would be to increase voltage and drop it to CL16 and see if its stable (I wouldn't seek to first sacrifice frequency either way, Id try to get all the things - freq and timings)
the x470 mobo says it only supports up to 3466 so does 3600 actually give me any speed above 3466 on this mobo?
-
You could also reseat your parts. That sometimes works.
-
do you still have that psu warranty?
-
So basically i have 2x16 ddr4 3600 cl18 ram. The Asus X470 Prime Pro only goes up to 3466 speeds. Would dialing back the speeds to 3466 and tightening the timings just be free performance?
-
on another note, is it worth getting a quadro k4000 or a 1650 super as a physics card?
-
thanks for all the help and i wasn't going to game on both so if having another separate GPU is unnecessary for desktop work i wont get one unless i need end up needing another for video rendering which i probably won't since the 2080 ti will probably handle it like a champ.

It's possible, but a hassle in terms of videocard drivers.
Why do you want to do that though..? And is using iGPU not an option?
i have a ryzen 7 2700x so integrated graphics dont exist

secondary monitors don't stress graphics cards
ok thanks

also, what is an iGPU?
-
i was thinking of doing it to reduce stress on my 2080 ti
-
Can you use one card for gaming and another card separately for normal desktop usage?

How is that weird? I was running a much weaker CPU with a 2080ti for quit a while, and I'm still not using anything significantly better than the 2700x.
Well most people don't know how to build they just use popular parts and put them together.
I was just thinking it would sound weird due the fact that the 2080 ti is so good compared to something like a 2700x that the performance gap might sound quite odd especially because of pricing.
-
Ok good, thanks. I probably sound weird for having a 2700x with a 2080 ti

bottleneck in which game?
Borderlands 3, Just Cause 3, Control, and other stuff at that level of demand. 1440p ultra quality and max ray tracing if allowed by the game.

Such a strange idea but it sounds very interesting. I'd like to know how this turns out if it's actually performed.
