  1. I would keep everything in the case, it’s not going to take up that much more room and will keep it more protected, while avoiding the headache of figuring out how to power it on without the keyboard. Unfortunately that’s how most laptops work, they’ll only display the BIOS to the integrated display and won’t display anything to the external display until the computer boots up.
  2. One of the weirder ones I've had with personal devices was an issue with my 2013 MacBook Pro. It would randomly shutdown when not under load. If there was any load at all it was fine, but at idle with all programs closed it would randomly shutdown after a few minutes. Seems backwards but nothing too weird yet. After a lot of searching it turns out there was a defect with some power chips on the motherboard and I was definitely not the only one with the issue. The first solution was to run a script to put a load on the CPU and essentially prevent the laptop from completely idling. Another solution was to disable the driver for Ethernet to Thunderbolt for whatever reason. Getting weirder. Then came the head-scratching but funny part: The 2013 MacBook Pro came with a PCIe 2.0 x2 SSD. Some mad lad figured out that if you replace the SSD with a newer one that was PCIe 3.0 x4, it drew just enough more power to keep the laptop from triggering the shutdown issue. Replaced my SSD with the newer one that was also higher capacity and sure enough I haven't had the problem since and it's been many years.
  3. Using “engineer” is pretty common in IT fields to separate the slightly higher up people from the technicians. I’m a SOC engineer and agree the “engineer” title is misused. Serious question though, what would you call a networking engineer instead? Just a tier 4 or tier 5 networking technician? What title would you prefer instead of “engineer”?
  4. That is Ed’s garage so yeah, it would be his LP640s. I haven’t watched his videos in a while, is that red one his as well?
  5. The product page says the following: “Our JBL Tune 600BTNC can pair with multiple and different types of devices but can only connect one at a time. You must either turn off the Bluetooth on your device to allow the other to connect to our JBL Tune 600BTNC.” So looks like the answer is no.
  6. In my experience yes. All the budget earphones I’ve tried have had some amount of background hum/static, some have been better than others but all had it.
  7. Gotta love how they just accepted it… doesn’t look like the wheels were turning or spinning at all, just kept on the brakes and hoped the thing would stop on its own.
  8. Thanks for the laugh with my morning coffee, that thread was something else haha. On topic: I’ve used all of them except thunderbolt and eSATA. I don’t have a newer MacBook or a need for thunderbolt (at least not yet), and external hard drives have been connected with a USB adapter or had an enclosure with a USB port.
  9. What region are you in? Further down the page there is a photo with the ports for each model, depending on region. Edit: And in case you missed it, the name of the receptacles is in blue below each model.
  10. I haven’t been watching this whole story too closely so maybe I’m wrong, but wasn’t this completely expected? I thought I remember basically every article I read about the rumored acquisition saying to expect the governments, both US and UK, to appose the deal.
  11. Bytes vs bits. Speedtest shows the download/upload in megabits (Mbps, notice the lowercase ‘b’), while whatever is being downloaded in the first screenshot is showing in kilobytes (KB/S, notice the uppercase ‘B’). 1 byte equals 8 bits, so 4.11 Mb/sec equals around .51 MB/sec or 510 KB/sec, close to what your download is showing.
  12. I hope they make it very clear every time they show the count that it is a guess because if they don’t, that’s worse than not showing the dislike count.
  13. 1. That’s not what the WAN show is for. 2. I think the extension uses YouTube’s API, which will almost certainly remove the features to view dislikes soon. At best it’s a temporary solution.
  14. Next things to check would be to make sure the modem has a gigabit port, and as someone mentioned try a different cable. The cable can be damaged in a way that 100Mbps will work just fine, but it won’t be able to negotiate to 1Gbps.
  15. What laptop/computer motherboard and router do you have? If either device doesn’t support gigabit, manually changing the setting to gigabit won’t do you any good.
  16. I don’t know if they were kidding, but I (and quite a few other people based off their other comments) hate both rig and battle station basically equally. I cringe every time I hear someone use either term when referring to their computer. Least syllables probably, but “PC” has fewer letters.
  17. Inside the software of the router? If so, try from a device wired to the router like a laptop or computer, similar to what the tech did. I don’t know about that specific router but I’ve seen built in speed tests for different routers that cap out at a certain speed.
  18. The change is being rolled out slowly not happening all at once, so this isn’t exactly news. I don’t think I’ve seen them removed from any video I’ve watched on any of my devices.
  19. They said the change will start gradually rolling out starting on the day the blog was posted, I didn’t see if the rollout was by region or video type or something else, but they aren’t going to disappear for all videos everywhere at once.
  20. I'm not sure why this guy is claiming Redbubble violated his privacy by providing the law firm with his details. In the video, he shows the email he sent the law firm which quotes communication received from Redbubble. The quote from Redbubble was "Please note that in most circumstances we will inform the complainant that you have provided a counter notice, as well as provide the complainant with a copy of your counter notice, which will include your personal contact information." He then says, "At the time of writing that email, that was in the Terms of Service of redbubble.com. They will not provide my personal details to the complainant unless I dispute the claim. I did not dispute the claim, I accepted it and moved on. Redbubble have overstepped the mark and violated my privacy right here in doing this." Redbubble did not say they will provide the law firm with his contact info only if he provides a counter claim and under no other circumstances, they said that if a counter notice is filed, they will provide the law firm with the counter notice which will include his contact info. He also mentions that was in the ToS at the time of writing the email. I used the Internet Archive/Wayback Machine to look at Redbubble's User Agreement and Privacy Policy at the time the email was sent (as far as I can tell the applicable parts did not change since then but checked to make sure), and didn't find anything close to what he said. Here is what it actually says: So if a third-party contacts Redbubble with an allegation that content on their marketplace infringes on the third-parties' rights, Redbubble is entitled to provide the third-parties with your contact info. No mention of having to file a counter claim before contact info is sent. I'm also not sure why he is so surprised that Redbubble complied with the law firm and "threw him under the bus" instead of offering him "protection". What does he expect them to do? So if someone uses Redbubble to try to sell shirts with a big ol' Nike logo on the front of them, Redbubble is supposed to fight tooth-and-nail the Nike lawyers that are going to come after them? No, they are going to basically forward the issue onto the person who uploaded the design. They wouldn't be in business very long otherwise. That would be similar to using copyrighted music in a YouTube video, then wondering why YouTube didn't offer you "protection" when a copyright claim is made. I don't really feel like giving my thoughts on the whole trademark aspect of all this right now, I just don't understand why he is, to use his own words, trying to throw Redbubble under the bus.
  21. I updated 2-3 days ago, haven’t had any issues so far.
  22. Looks like an Intel Itanium 9140M or some other Itanium processor, used in older servers.
  23. Did you make sure your uni will let you setup your own access point? That’s almost never allowed.
  24. “WiFi Pineapple is a bit of kit that can be used to capture sensitive data over the internet” Either I’ve been misunderstanding for years what WiFi Pineapples do, or that is most certainly not what they do. Edit: And lol at Discord being “often used to share hacking tips”. When someone thinks of Discord, the first thing they think is definitely hacking tips… What age do they consider a “child” to be? I would consider it to be between newborn and teen, are there really that many 8 year olds hacking people in the UK that they needed to post that?
